today i drank out of a cup that i never touch. it’s sat in a display cabinet for nine years. when i was 16, a counselor in the inpatient facility i was staying in broke a teacup that i’d brought with me. she felt awful, and i insisted that it didn’t matter. it was just a cup. the next day, she showed up with the exact same teacup - brand new. she’d searched and searched on the internet until she found the right one. she replaced it even though i hadn’t cared, because that’s just the kind of person she was. she cared even when you didn’t. that counselor was my favorite. she told me all the time that my positivity was important to the other girls in the facility. she told me i was a leader. i’d never been told that before. a few weeks after i left that facility, i was informed that she had passed away. i was so heartbroken. i’ve kept this teacup ever since as a reminder of how she impacted me. i adored her. i hope that she’s found peace wherever her soul landed.
