I think one reason Superman is such a hard character to write is because he's so intrinsically tied to US history you physically CAN'T learn Superman lore without knowing about the kkk and how it was dismantled.

Vague writing tips I use all the time:

(doesn't mean you have to follow them)

Never start at the beginning. Start in the middle, or right before the end. This goes for world building, characters, items, lore, relationships, you name it.

Build your characters' "houses" on the sand. Watching that is far more interesting than what was built on the rocks.

Crafting a story should feel like a good sparring match. The plot is one opponent and the readers' expectations are the other. And the readers are hungry for a good fight.

Procrastinating? That's caused by a lack of stimulation/your mind going into autopilot. Push your current skill beyond its comfort level. Force your brain to dive head first into a specific problem you've been putting aside for months/years. Let every chapter tackle a feasible problem you need to overcome.

Plan to kill off all your characters from the start. Then force them to convince you why they should live.

NEVER name one of your characters Justin.

Just rereading some of my older fics and DANG do I like to make up extremely specific and uncomfortable family drama around Reigen Arataka that his love interest of the fic has to navigate! 😂

Like I got CREATIVE with this crap!

Still haven't found that scene. Sigh.

(yes it's 3am and yes I've got nothing better to do)

Like in this one fic the whole family had this generational trauma thing stemming from WWII I think. Something about coffee and immigrants too. (Didn't specify in the screenshot post but Reigen's grandpa dies while sitting next to him when young Reigen was already on a depressive spiral.)

And in another one- I've been so tempted to draw fanart of it- both his parents have dwarfism and his sister's a h0. (Honestly don't know what else to call it. Trust me she's a multidimensional character with a lot of layers to her and isn't meant to bash women of a certain variety.)

And in BOTH of those fics Reigen is, if I remember correctly, trying to navigate a romantic relationship while being Asexual. xD
