You were the one who found baby jane doe. The whole thing made you extremely emotional during your shift, everyone noticed. Though only Samira was the one keeping an eye on you for the whole time.

When you had a moment between checking on patients you went to the infant.

You carefully took her into your arms and started humming a song.

Samira was looking for you and she knew where to go. Emery had a house with a garden where you'd play pirates together, seeking adventures, looking for treasure. Once you fell down tripping on a rock, Emery instantly rushed to you taking your scrapped knee into her hands, your eyes filled with tears due to pain and she noticed right away, "Shhh it's okay, it's a scratch brave pirate, we'll put a bandaid on and continue looking for the gold!". She took your hand and lead you to her parents so they could disinfect the scratch and put on a bandaid. Emery's eyes were carefully scanning every step of how your knee was handled, her hand still holding yours.

When you were finally patched up you asked her "Maybe we could play doctors instead? I don't think I can run." with a big pout on your face. You though she'd be disappointed since she loved playing pirates but no, her eyes lit up instantly, she started leading you to her bedroom where she gathered all her teddy bears and plastic doctor toys. After hours of surgeries on the poor teddy bears your parents came over telling you it's time to go home. And as always that made you extremely unhappy. "It's not your last time playing together girls. You'll see each other at school tomorrow." your parents said. And you did of course.

On october 11th Emery's and yours parents had a fight. A huge one that resulted in changing your school so you could no longer see Emery and her family. You've cried and screamed at them for hours but they did not change their mind. Ever since then, you haven't found another friend wich led you to having depression at the age of 13. You had dreams about her but nothing could make up for her absence in your life.

When you finished high school it was finally time to decide on what you want to do in your life. Your parents wanted you to be a lawyer. Your brain has been filled with memories, pirates, ice cream, teddy bears...surgeries. That's when you decided, medical school it is.

The first few days were extremely hard, your parents helped you move into your dorm room that you shared with a girl named Alycia. She was very nice but she was the exact opposite of what you were now. Her positivity made you nauseous most mornings, you didn't really want to become friends with her or anyone at that, but she made it her special mission to get you to hang out with her more often, but you were stubborn and did not agree to any of her proposals.

Few months passed and you hit probably the hardest point in your life. All of the emotions building up over the years finally got you hard. When you were alone you'd cry for god knows how long, you'd avoid any social interaction that wasn't required by the school, when you came back from class you'd put your headphones on and go to sleep buried under blankets.

One saturday you woke up and overhead Alycia's conversation with someone over the phone, "You know like she's nice and all but like...she doesn't talk or- well she doesn't do anything than go to class and do her homework now that I'm thinking about it. I hate seeing people like that I know I'm not her friend or anything but I just want a roommate that's not depressed.", she hummed few "mhm"'s and ended the conversation. When she turned around you were sitting up, your back against the wall, your eyes pointed at her, "How much of that have you heard?", Alycia said with an akward smile across her face, burning from embarrassment. "Quite a lot I don't know.", you tilted your head waiting for her response, "Okay well heard probably everything... soooo how about we go hang out with my friends after breakfast at the park?", you raised your eyebrows in slight disgust at the thought of socializing with anyone today. "I know you're not into that but I'd hate for my rommate to like throw herself off a roof or something... please?", her comment made you laugh, "I'm not going to throw myself off of anything don't worry but fine alright but it's a one time thing okay?", you got out of your bed leaving the blankets behind and leaned your body on her desk that she was sitting at. She smiled deeply and got up from her chair getting her shower supplies, ready to go to the shared bathroom. "Also I'm not depressed..." You said, definitely not convincing enough as she gave you a knowing look before leaving the room.

"Fuck..." You groaned into your hands at the thought of the decision you just made.

Alycia basically dragged you to the meeting spot, when you arrived she got a text to wich she groaned loudly, "Ughh Em's not gonna make it guys!" she said to the three people sitting on a picnic blanked under a tree, they all made some kind of a disappointed reaction to the news. When they finally noticed you they welcomed you warmly, they looked like they were genuinely happy to meet you. You all introduced yourselves and started having a conversation, well they were having a conversation you just sat there akwardly. Alycia once in a while asked you some questions but wasn't very pressuring about the answers you gave. An hour passed and you felt like your body is swallowing itself, you haven't spoke to anyone in such a long time let alone 4 people. You made up some pathetic excuse and said your goodbyes to everyone. The walk back to your dorm was exhausting giving that you left your headphones in your bed.

In the evenings Alycia finally came back, you were burried under your blankets watching some random movie. You heard her walk in and looked up at her, "Hii! How you doing?", Alycia asked you while taking off her jacket and shoes. "Uh good but overstimulated not gonna lie.", you gave her a little smile, "Yeah I get it, well I'm just gonna say that my friends really liked you even though you said like 10 words in total...but they say you have a good vibe so don't worry.", you thought for a second about your response because well you actually felt kinda good about finally speaking to people that weren't your teachers. "Well um...yeah I kind of enjoyed that actually.", Alycia's expression changed completely, only time you've seen her this excited it was probably when her friend broke up with some guy that Alycia hated. "Well wait till you meet Em, she's busy now but I'll force her into a meeting...", you've put away your laptop to seem more interested in the conversation in hopes that it will end quickly. "She's amazing, she is a bitch at first but don't worry she's all soft and muchy behind that bitch face and all." Alycia laughed at her own words, you just gave her a quick nod. "Okay go sleep now, seriously you look like death." Alycia said to wich you laughed quietly and started watching again.

You'd probably never admit it but Alycia pulled you out of you depression, over two weeks you got to meet her friends better and started hanging out with them more, and they got to know you.

"Oh my gooood, Em can finally meet with us! You're down for that?" Alycia asked you one day after class, "Uh yeah sure.", you smiled warmly at her as you head to your dorm room. "Amazing, I'll let her know." She went on her phone instantly. You did not know anything about this Em they're talking about, but the group talks about her so often with so much emotion she feels like some kind of a legend or something. When you finally arrived at your room you changed your clothes to something more comfortable and tried to make yourself somewhat presentable.

"There she is!" Alycia shouted while basically launching herself at the girl standing in front of her, "Fucking finally Em! I haven't seen you in so long!", the brown haired girl laughed at your roommate and responded, "So where's the star you've forced me to meet?".

Alycia turned around and pointed her open arms on you. You looked at Alycia's friend and holy shit...

"Wait I kinda recognize you..." Em said with a slightly raspy voice. "Yeah... wait Em as in Emery?" you asked yourself more than you asked her. "No fucking way..." Em said, you both stared at each other stunned, Alycia visibly confused looked between you and her. "Yeah, Walsh." Emery anwsered quietly. Both of you tensed up not knowing what to do.

She was the first to reach out, she slowly approached you and hugged you so tightly your organs almost left your body. You whispered a quiet "Hi." into her ear, wrapping your arms around her. The world stopped for a moment, you couldn't hear anything but Emery's breath. You could feel body practically melting into yours. All of the sadness you've felt over the years suddenly lost it's meaning. When you finally pulled away Emery's hands travelled to your face as if checking if you're actually you, "Hi..." her voice was shaky, unsure of what's going through her, her eyes now were buried deep into yours.

"Damn." Alycia mumbled while looking at the both of you.

Ever since you've been reunited you became impossible to separate, whenever you were, Emery was right next to you. You've spend hours talking about what happened during and after the day when you two were broken apart.

Emery would not admit to any of her friends that she loved you. She had feelings for you since childhood and was not able to forget them through the years of your absence. She had a few girlfriends but they never meant much. So when she saw you, it was literally a dream come true. Emery had spent hours listening to you, giving you loving looks and gentle touches in hopes that you loved her too. Of course you did love her, how could you not. But you were scared, scared that if you tell her she'll disappear again.

Today was Alycias birthday, there was a party at some park. Everyone got drunk or high. You couldn't stop looking at Emery through your drunken state. People noticed and teased you about it. Your friend group that was now containing 5 people sat under a tree on dried out grass. You and Emery were sitting right next to each other arms brushing, knees touching. At some point the alcohol hit you hard. You leaned on her for support, your head on her shoulder. Emery was mumbling something to you but you did not register a single word. It was the day of your clinical rotation wich of course you took with Emery, you both headed to the hospital and started your day at 6 am. It was tiring, the staff required a shit ton of stuff from the both of you. You knew you were good at what you were doing, you also knew she was better and you were so proud of her that through all the years she still wanted to help people and that she still cared to provide someone the best care possible. She always thanked you when you said you were proud and encouraged her more to do even better, you always replied with "I want you to be happy love...and I know that you will do so much good to people and oh my lord I just can't wait to see you be independent as a doctor.", "Does that turn you on?" Emery asked once with a grin on her face, "Hell yeah." you replied and kissed her. She remembers your words every time she doubts herself whenever she made a mistake.

Everyone in the ER call you and Dr Emery Walsh "The wives".

It started when Jack said, "You are not married guys, stop fighting.", while you both argued on what treatment is best for the patient. When the patient was deteriorating Emery sarcastically comented, "Well my dear wife will you make a decision or should I go in already?", you let out a loud scoff and put your hand up in surrender gesture and for her response Emery immediately started barking orders at people.

You found it quite amusing so you decided to play a little game. Every single time Emery came on your case you'd greet her with "There's my wife!", she'd roll her eyes usually. Sometimes when it got too quiet you'd say "What are we having for dinner tonight honey?", everyone was dead silent waiting for Emery's response, to what she'd say "Maybe we could eat some "shut up and focus"?" with an annoyed expression on her face. Nobody else but you and Jack would find this little feud funny. Most of the times Jack has to hold in his laugh to wich Emery would give him a look. But you on the other hand? Absolutely no shame in your words.

And that was what made this so infuriating for Emery. No one in her career would try to piss her off as much as you do.

One time she got so mad at you that after it she actually started replying to your jokes. When she was leaving with a patient you quickly shouted "See you at home!", to what she replied "Don't bother changing clothes I'm gonna rip them off anyway.", the casualty in her voice left everyone stunned. You and Jack looked at each other for a good few seconds analyzing what the hell just happened.

You and Emery work together in the PTMC, you're a nurse in the surgery department, she's a surgeon. You both came in unusually motivated to work but not long after you came you got notified about a mass casualty in the ER that got you running on adrenaline all night long.

When you finally get home after the excruciating hours of surgeries, you both go straight to the couch, disregarding the no scrubs in home rule you two made. You throw yourself on one side of the couch waiting for Emery to get the other side, but to your surprise she literally lays down on you.

Emery has always been a words over touch person in a relationship, she loved to kiss you and keep herself close next to you but was never really into cuddling and holding each other.

So you don't say a word, maybe because you have absolutely no willpower to say anything after the awful shift, but mostly because you don't want to scare her off. You gently wrap your arm around her waist and wait for her response.

There's none though, other than the tired sigh that escapes her lungs.

You feel her melting into you, feeling her full bodyweight on your body. Emery's hand heavily moves to your shoulder and grips your scrub shirt tightly, almost as she's scared you'll move.

The sun is rising. You feel the hot sun on your eyes that comes in through the window of your shared apartment.

"Am I crushing you?" Emery asks quietly looking somewhere around the room.

"Just a bit." You kiss the top of her head in hopes she will appreciate the truth but still decides to keep herself on you. And to your disappointment she does in fact get of off you. She sits on the opposite side of the couch keeping her eyes on you.

Her hands travel to her face, groaning loudly the second it's covered away from you.

"Em...you need to talk?" Calm words leave your mouth, she answers defensively "No. Do you?" Her tone way too aggressive for your liking.

"Okay I know a lot happened but there's no reason for you to snap at me." Emery immediately after hearing your words stands up and walks over to the bathroom locking herself in. "Fuck, alright." You mumble to yourself confused at what your girlfriend did.

Emery is snappy. You know it. Everyone knows. It doesn't change the fact that her action did sting your heart a bit.

Emery doesn't leave the bathroom for half an hour, during that time you changed clothes and made some food for both of you.

"Food is on the table!" You shout loud enough for her to hear through the closed doors, your voice emotionless.

She doesn't come out for another ten minutes, but when she finally leaves she sits on the chair next to you. Looking at her food you can almost hear her thoughts rushing through her head.

"Sorry. I don't know what that was..." Her eyes meet yours, you can see how glassy they are, bags under them.

"Yeah me neither." You offer a warm smile to let her know you're not mad at her.

"I- I'm just fucking tired and got so overwhelmed and everything just felt too much, and my body feels like a fucking brick, I just had to get some space, I'm sorry really...I-" You interrupt her quickly, "Hey it's okay. I know. I'm not mad Emery, this shift was hell and affected all of us. I'm not mad at you for listening to your body okay?" You offer your hand on the table for her to hold, and she does, while your fingers interlock she takes a sip of water you put next to her plate.

"I can't believe you're my girlfriend." The corners of her mouth turn into a smile, "Like I think anyone else would ditch me with all of my bossiness and shit."

You and Emery have been married for a little over 6 months. You both agreed to keep it a secret in the hospital.

You're a third year resident at PTMC and you've met Dr Walsh on your first night shift as a intern. She took an interest in you within the first seconds of seeing you. Something about you being so well mannered around the more experienced doctors yet still brave enough to ask questions and give your opinions.

Over the years you started taking night shifts more and more until you finally switched to nights.

Your first date with Emery was two days after you had an accident that included you being assaulted by a drunk woman in triage. She got you pretty bad... She punched you hard right in the sternum, the impact caused you to fall over and hit the back of your head on the wall. That left you with a minor concussion, millions of tests, the whole ER department checking on you and oddly a surgical consult. Jack said it's for precaution, "You may have internal bleeding. I know you're tired of the check-ups but your vitals are concerning, ok?"

"I don't think she had enough power in her vodka powered hands to actually do much damage." You sigh and furrow your brows in frustration. "You have a concussion though, don't you?!" Jack said with enough tiredness in his voice that you just decided to lay down and wait for the consult.

It isn't odd that you see Dr Walsh during your nights. Happens quite ofter actually as you take most of the traumas now. "You're fast, thoughtful and a good team player." That's how Jack excused himself for always taking you with the incoming traumas but you definitely heard him telling Robby at the handoffs that you're his favorite intern, once or twice.

Lena escorted Dr Walsh to your room and the examination begun.

"So you had fun I heard?" Emery walks in with a sarcastic comment as usual.

"Yeah fantastic." You anwser tilting your head slightly as a habit, whenever you find something intriguing, that haunts you since childhood.

"Okay so your head CT is normal, you have a slight concussion and a chest pain?" She check's to be sure, definitely not trusting Abbot's words.

"Yup. Got hit pretty hard." At the excessive pronunciation of the word you chest stung you like crazy making you wince in pain.

"Okay they did and ultrasound?" She asked but your answer wasn't really needed as ahe already got the ultrasound machine ready for you. You closely look at her and study how she moves it around.

"You're planning on doing what now exactly?" You raise your eyebrows.

"An ultrasound obviously." She answers without looking at you, setting up all stuff necessary for the exam. You mumble a quick 'mhm' and say, "I'm gonna have to undress if you don't plan on cutting my bra off."

"Then what are you waiting for?" She finally looks at you. It's not that you never had check-ups where you had to take your shirt off or you yourself cut like hundreds of shirts of off people when needed. But Dr Walsh is your collegue and a coworker it feels just...not right for you.

"Soooooo...?" She stares at you with her eyebrows raised in a questioning maner.

"Yeah..." You sigh and start taking your shirt off, when your hands were at the height of your shoulders, you felt as if someone stabbed you right between you lungs, "Motherfucker!" you hiss in pain.

"Want me to cut it off?" You mumble another curse under your breath after her comment, your heartbeat speeding up, betraying you on the monitors.

"No I got it." You say way more defensively than you wanted.

"Okayyy..." As you finally take off your shirt and bra, Emery spots a huge purple-ish bruise on your chest and she stops in her steps, 'That will hurt...' she thinks, "Okay this may hurt, are we rawdogging it or do you want some morphine?" You look at her once again surprised by the level of compassion coming from her towards you.

"Just do it, I have stuff to go back to." Emery mumbles another "okay" and proceeds with the ultrasound. It's so painful you rethink your decline on the morphine.

"You're not going anywhere though, you know that?" She says while studying the images in front of her. You scoff at her words wich you yet again regret while your chest reminds you at what state it is, your face scrunching in response.

"Yeah exactly." You don't realize when she managed to see how you reacted at the pain but somehow she did.

After another few painful minutes she finally finishes up and offers you a paper towel to clean up all the gel from your chest. "Okay so everything looks quite good other from the giant bruise. My recommendation is that you stay here for few hours to monitor the concussion and then few days at home." She offers you a quick smile before disappearing behind the cutrain.

When you're finally all dressed you hear someone coming in yet again. "Okay so uh, stay here, police will be soon to ask few questions and take your statement." Jack explains as you lay on the incredibly uncomfortable hospital bed.

"Was Walsh really necessary?" You cut to the most important question for you, "Uh, yes. I need the best when my intern is hurt." He nods quickly, "Did you just call Walsh "the best"?" something sounding like a giggle escapes your mounth wich you open in amusement.

"Yeah don't- don't tell her I said that." He pats your knee quickly before walking out to consult on a patient.

After that it's pure history... praising comments about your work, talking way more during the quick moments when she consults on your patient, finally hanging out outside work, dates, first sex...and now you're married.

You're honetly so surprised no one cought up that you've been in a relationship with Emery for so long. You're lucky you may say. When the day shift finally leaves you're already buried with patients and paperwork.

"Hey incoming trauma, penetration with a forein object in the abdomen. You're with me." Jack Abbot quickly informs you, signaling with his hand to come with him. You stand up from the desk that the computer is on and move quickly grabbing a pair of gloves.

When the paramedics arrive with a woman on the gurney you quickly move to side with them, "What we got?" You look at the wound and head to the trauma room.

"45 year old caucasian woman, Laura Casey, wandering drunk around a construction site when a pole fell down of a building and penetrated her abdomen. We don't know how deep it went, no exit wound. Hypertensive with mild tachycardia at 165/98 pulse 110." The paramedic says to Abbot knowing he's in charge between you two. When you finally placed the woman on the table you looked at her face to check her pupils, 'oh shit' you mumble loud enough for everyone in the room to hear you. "What's wrong?" Abbot shouts to you. "That's the woman that attacked me few years back-" Your words get interrupted as the surgery consult comes in.

"What we got?" Dr Walsh comes in and takes her place between you and Jack.

"Laura Casey, was taling a stroll around the construction site drunk when a pole fell down and pierced her abdomen." You say way too quick for what Emery and Jack expected, "Hey you good on this?" Abbot quickly checks up on you, "Why wouldn't she be?" Emery asks as she looks at you in confusion, already preparing a punchline for Dr Abbot, "That's the woman that attacked me on triage years back." You sigh as you check all her vitals. Emery's eyes fall wide open but she quickly focuses on the case again.

"What are the orders?" She asks, and when Abbot starts to recite what the woman needs he gets quickly interrupted by the surgeon. "I'm asking your resident." Her tone monotone, making Jack roll his eyes.

"We need an ultrasound, chest CT, blood work, toxscreen and security in case she decides to assault someone here again when she wakes up." You offer a sarcastic smile to everyone that's looking at you.

"Good. Nice work, stabilize the patient send the images and I'll get the OR ready." Emery says as she starts walking out and on her way out she never forgets to whisper a 'nice job' to you. You tilt your head immediately at the praise coming from your wife, "Why do you go all lovey dovey on my resident but leave none of that to me?" Jack jokes as Walsh walks out, "She doesn't bother me as much as you do!" She walks out with a huge grin on her face.

"When did you two get so close?" He asks you as the nurses take Laura to the CT, "I didn't realize we got close Dr Abbot. Why? You noticed anything?" You say trying cover your marriage with sarcasm.

"Uh, kinda." He shakes his head quickly and walks out with you as you two take off your protective gear, heading towards your own directions.

You hear a notification coming from your phone so you check immediately guessing it's Emery.

"Fuck Emery." You sigh as you lay down next to your girlfriend on the bed. Both your breathes are slowing down, the mattress sinking you in.

You mumble a quiet "mhm" and start sucking on her neck.

"No. No no." She quickly pulls away and puts her hand on your chin.

"Why not? You can cover it up?" You smirk at the thought of her showing herself off with a hickey displayed on her neck that was made by you.

"I thought we agreed on no hickeys." She scrunched her eyebrows together.

"Agreements can be changed and negociated and all." You try to kiss her lips but her firm grip on your chin is stopping you.

"You've already made like a thousand bruises on my legs...and belly...and thighs...and my fucking chest babe you're gonna be fine." You groan dissatisfied.

She pulls you two together down on the pillows once again. Emery's eyes involuntarily start closing. At the sight, you place the most gentle kiss on her forehead and tuck your hand somewhere on her waist.

"Goodnight." You whisper into her ear.

You're so mad. Like actually fucking mad you're barely able to sit still. You can't remember the last time someone that has made you so mad. But Mike managed to do that.

You came back to your shared apartment and sat on the couch. Minutes that felt like hours passed by and Vanessa was finally home. She said hi but you knew if you'd respond to her it'll probably sound like a curse at her so you stayed silent.

"Hellooo? You there?" Vanessa says as she takes off her shoes and wanders slowly to the living room.

"Mhm." The sigh that escapes your mouth can tell that you're not feeling particularly happy at the moment.

"Are you okay?" She drops herself on the couch next to you, your shoulders and thighs touching each other.

"I need a moment okay?" You sound way more aggressive that you intented wich makes Vanessa scooch away from you just enough not to be touching your side.

"Okay..." She said quickly and closed her mouth thinking of what to do.

After few seconds of totally akward silence you turn to look at her. She's had a bad day at work, you can tell by how her eyes are slowly tearing up.

"I'm sorry love." You force a smile and put your hand on her shoulder. She didn't say another word just carefully but incredibly fast moved to you and cuddled into your chest.

"Hey I'm sorry I just...ugh I exchanged few words with Mike that made me want to fucking kill him." You explain quickly.

"What did you fight about?" Vanessa's voice is weak. Not like her usual bubbly self.

"He complimented my "abilites" as your partner." You explain sarcastically.

"What do you mean?"

"He said I can't treat you right and he'd do so so much better and basically that I'm shit and he's the best."

"Oh, well that's bullshit." She looks up staring into your eyes.

"Doesn't mean I don't want to punch him you know." Your hand lands on her hair stroking it carefully.

"I love you. Mike doesn't know shit and you're the best thing that happened to me... nothing can change that." She smiles and finally relaxes into your body warmth.
