"A marriage ending isn't a failure at all. I spent eleven years with her. We were so in love that we couldn't image life apart from each other. Her trade school took her in one direction, my graduate degree in another and trying to force us back into who we were five years ago wasn't coming from a place of love. It was coming from a place of fear. Fear that, if this ended, it meant we wasted eleven years. But sitting there across from her, I realized: That's not how love works.

Those eleven years happened. They were real. The dog, our home, showing up for each other through grad school and trade school. I wouldn't change a single thing because loving someone doesn't mean you're meant to stay with them forever. And letting go doesn't erase what you had. We measure marriage by whether it lasts forever or not, but what if we measured it by whether it mattered?

What if we measured it by the love we gave, the life we built, and the people we became? Because love's job isn't to last forever, it's to help you become fully completely yourself, and sometimes the most loving thing you can do is give each other permission to be yourselves, separately. But the dog doesn't know were' divorced. He just gets two Christmases now."

Halsin hating the city isn't because he's delusional about how harsh nature can be. He knows- he uses a metaphor about overgrown canopies starving trees of sunlight.

The difference is that in nature, those are mistakes. Or just like, unfortunate parts of life.

There's not a council of lions that's trying to genocide zebras. The lions just want dinner. They also don't stop zebras from grazing on plants or corral them into tight spaces where they all get sick. They don't kidnap zebras and torture and sacrifice them.

THAT is the difference Halsin is getting at. His perspective is that bad things that happen in nature are because plants and animals don't have the higher reasoning to help each other. Sapient beings do but they choose to hurt each other. Wildfires kill things all the time but refresh the trees. Whereas sapient people have more stuff than they could ever use but let a big portion of people starve. Children get murdered. Etc.

Halsin's perspective isn't "bad things don't happen in nature," it's "bad things don't happen in nature due to malice, sadism, or startling levels of greed"

Like i knoooww he is a bio-terrorist with a god complex but… when you’re in the room everything else is irrelevant, YOU are the goddess to his god complex, you feel me? The only one he softens around and lets whisk him away to bask in carefree love.

There is something so alluring about a man who is harsh and cold and downright evil with the rest of the world but who drops all of that and slumps his shoulders, lets exhaustion show on his face, and crawls into your arms seeking affection and a safe place to land 😭

And for Wesker especially it's like. My own self indulgent bullshit aside, I really think he would have benefitted from having someone like that in his life, someone to love him unconditionally and be there for him for no other reason that just because. No ulterior motive, no nothing. Just him and their love for him.
