Art Project 5: Sabrina & Corina
Artist Statement:Ā
In the book Sabrina and Corina by Kali Fajardo-Anstine, the short story I chose was Chessman Park.
I chose this particular story because it showed what Liz misses after living and working in a Los Angeles bank. The intention I made in this piece of art was to portray what it would have looked like from Lizās motherās apartment window overlooking Chessman Park with the city of Denver and the mountain range.Ā
Two key items that I included was a sign that says āHome is where my family isā and a vase of poppies. The reason why I chose that quote instead of āAlways remember, this is our homeā is because they almost mean the same thing and Liz returned back home in Denver because she āmissed her mother and the mountains.ā I thought the idea of putting a vase of poppies on the window sill would resonate with the viewer because they are the flowers that are on the cover of the book and they also symbolize peace.
