Today was a blackout day. I woke around 4am, the shutters in the French Chateaux I currently lay my head down in shaking and banging. I reached for the light switch to check the time - nothing. Power out.

I woke around 7am: no change, so I decided to indulge myself with a lay in - there was nothing to be done without power in the dark.

The power out continued for the whole day and I have to say I loved it. I sat and read and stretched walked the dogs several time. The gas worked, so I could cook (and more essentially heat hot water for drinks). I forgot about work - there was literally nothing I could do, so no point thinking about it.

My only worry - the possibility of the food in the freezer melting - I had no idea how long this would go on for.

The power came back just I had started my candle lit cooking - but I decided to go right ahead and continue to cook and eat by candlelight.

The new year started out being about reducing my clutter. Tidy house, tidy mind I believe is the saying? 

Having gone through all my belongings in storage (thank mum), stripping out as much of the excess as I could bear (four suitcases and ten boxes) I have flown to France for my first solo house/dog sitting adventure.

I came across this slightly tongue in cheek article from Creative Review this morning about freeing up your mind by minimising / tidying your work space.
