Interesting fact: I can’t find death dates, causes of death, or any kind of death record at all for some of the most prominent members of the Changelings Crusade. Several of them ended up as Court monarchs, I can’t believe their deaths wouldn’t have been recorded. It’s possible that Baihu might have fucked off back to China at some point; I saw mentions of a lover associated with him, possible from the Court of the South (which, goddamn buddy). The Western Court records of the area and era are impeccable too, though, so this is baffling. Ya'el umm al-Falaq doesn’t get any mention after 1198, but given what an active figure in the Jerusalem Summer Court she was, this makes even less sense. Day Dreamer, Thing in the Night, do either of you know about any balls-old Lost in the area? I don’t see why you would, but you’re the type to keep your ears open.
Since I seem to remember you mentioning something of this “Changelings’ Crusade” some time ago –and because these nights have been frankly utterly uneventful– I reached out to some old contacts to see if I could dig up anything. I have been as yet unable to personally access the records of any of these “directional” courts you mention, however, I have been able to secure access to some Kindred documents relating to the events in question. Interestingly –and perhaps you already know this–, while you have in the past used this phrase “Changelings’ Crusade” to describe a single group of changelings (you have a particular term for that, I know, but it escapes me), it was actually a fairly large movement of changelings seeking to root out Kindred influence, reaching from as far west as Greece and as far east as China. It is strange to me that, this movement have been as widespread as it was, more of your kind do not know about the Kindred tonight. The movement as a whole had a curious double effect. Outwardly, it was massively successful. Kindred casualties reached numbers near those seen in the time of black streets, and the Kindred’s hold on many major cities waned, or even broke. However, it seems that, for the most part, while very many Kindred were destroyed, few of the casualties were of any significant age or consequence. The attacks mostly forced older and more powerful Kindred into hiding, which ended when the changelings responsible for inspiring this clandestine crusade eventually died off. Immortality, it seems, holds some advantages.
But I am rambling. You mentioned two names. The name Ya’el al-Falaq arises several times in Kindred accounts of the time. She had many monikers among my kind, few of them pleasant, all hinting at connections to fire and the sun. From what I know of your kind, I have to assumed that she was some sort of fire or sun elemental. If this was the case, I am sure you can easily see why this would make her less than popular among the Kindred. Strangely, as great a threat to the Kindred as she posed, she was never targeted by my organization, or if she was, the records are above my proverbial pay grade. An associate and I gained some limited access to Jerusalem summer court records from around that era, and found that she served as court “monarch” for a considerable stretch of years even after the crusade had, for all intents and purposes, lost momentum and died out. Of her death there are no records. The last mention of her is, as best as I can translate it: “In time her fire burned brighter than her mind (the word used here would be more accurately translated as “clearness” or “clarity” but that seems meaningless, so I have extrapolated from context), and seeing that the shadows that she cast were long and that she looked upon things that were not (literally “that unwere” but it is a strange compound word which I can only guess at the full context and meaning of) she travelled out into the sand and walked among the stars at the sun’s right hand.” From there, all mentions of her cease.
When I asked an old friend of mine about the name Baihu, I received a veiled look and the vague promise that she would “see what could be said without breaching clearance.” So, with any luck, I will have more news on that soon.
Either something big is coming, or I ate some really bad street food.

Perhaps my having sat in a web will do something to changer her mind, although I doubt it. Does Lily find the spiders to be good conversationalists? My god, is that a joke? Did you have a joke at me? Are you joking about your home not being “lived in?” Am I dreaming? Is this real? Euphorbia owes me so much money, she bet you couldn’t make jokes. It’s not much of a secret how I sat in the cobweb, I just climbed the wall. Nothing exciting, really.
This is no joke. It’s an unintentional pun. Jokes are definitionally intentional!
And next time you have some kind of claim about this man making a joke, I want proof! Send a picture of the joke holding the day’s newspaper.
To avoid some sort of modern re-occurance of the Trojan War, I will pointedly decline to confirm or deny whether my sense of humor died with me.
As far as the conversational skills of spiders are concerned, I must admit I have never bothered to ask.

I've a bit of an odd favor I'd like to ask you. A few years ago I dropped some things in the Valley of the Kings, and I wondered if you and your Day Dreamer might be willing to see if they're still there. I don't want them back, I just want to know if they're in the Valley. I made a post the other day about what I lost. -Wadjet
Do you have any advice regarding security precautions that could be taken in looking for these things? I would personally prefer to delegate the task of looking for something potentially dangerous to one of the various members of my organization whose job it is to do such things, but my Mistress seems insistent on us helping you out personally. Is it important to you that we look ourselves, or would you be just as comfortable if one of my associates looked into it for you?
I would much rather you two do it. I’m rather hesitant to entrust such a job to people I don’t know, even as trivial as this sounds. These items and their… resting place, if you will, are of a certain sentimental value to me. I don’t need them back in my possession, and in fact would much rather never see them again, but they belong to someone I used to be and think of that place as… not quite her grave, but something similar. The last place a missing person was seen, perhaps. I’m also not certain I trust others to leave them undisturbed; it’s unlikely anything in them could be used against me, but I know many of the Lost are prone to taking what doesn’t belong to them, and I suspect some of the Kindred may be of a similar bent. None of what I’m asking you to look for is dangerous, and the Valley should be quite safe as well. The Door has probably moved on, if it existed at all. It’s just an old backpack and a dirty scarf an over-eager student dropped.
After talking it over with Caleb, I think we will go and look for you. The sand has probably taken your gear, but I see no harm in a walk with our eyes open. We’ll do what we can. Is there anything you would like done if we do find them? A prayer said over them, bury them, leave them, take a picture? I’d like to know specifically what your wishes are before we attempt to do this.
If I had a dollar for every time something sandy jacked my shit, I’d have more money than God. I am looking at you, Ahi. Please just leave them in situ. Part of me is concerned my Fetch might have found them, but I don’t see why it would have any interest in the Valley. Anyway, I’d have gotten a new backpack. Nothing was irreplaceable, the scarf was filthy, and the book was on its last legs. I don’t know what kind of magic the Kindred have, but if you could put up some kind of ward, something to keep people away from that spot, I’d appreciate it. Just a gentle sense of unease or boredom, something to keep people away from it. I don’t want people going near somewhere that Door showed up. If you feel moved to say a prayer, feel free. These things aren’t really mine anymore, or at least it’s a complex and convoluted relationship.
I'll talk to one of my colleagues about something to keep the kine away if we find your things. And don't worry, shadowling, if we know of the same Door, it's far away from there.

Apologies for the belated response, shadowling. My evenings have been busy of late.Honestly, I'm surprised you did not ask sooner. A Kindred's fangs, in most cases, are not always visible, we can extend them when we wish to use them, and retract them when they would attract… unwanted attention.
As far as feeding is concerned, it varies from Kindred to Kindred, but for the most part you simply puncture the skin and drink. It is about as glamorous as you might expect, which is to say not glamorous at all.
My Mistress taped a printout of this to my door in the haven almost a year ago. I have yet to remove it.
That’s the most darling thing I’ve ever heard. If you’re both so charmed by it, I could see about getting it printed on good paper and framed or something. Just please don’t put tape on things you love. Tape is evil. Never use tape. Exorcise tape from your household. Forget that tape exists. Lead a happier, tape-free existence.
That would be deeply appreciated, I'm sure. And while I do not quite understand your aversion to tape, I will certainly bear that in mind.

You've said in the past that the Kindred are primarily dead, and that some would envy the Lost our intense and occasionally turbulent emotions. Do you feel only on an intellectual level, without the rush of warmth upon seeing an old friend, or do you feel physical effects of emotion as well? -Wadjet
Apologies for taking so long to answer this question, shadowling. It is a complex and difficult one.Insofar as the physical effects of emotion are purely psychosomatic, we are still able to feel them to some degree, since Kindred and kine psychology are not altogether different, much as many Kindred (and probably more than a few kine) would like to tell you otherwise. For the most part, however, what we feel is remnants of what we remember feeling in our breathing days. A friend meets their Final Death, for example, and I am sad intellectually because they were valuable and meaningful in some way. Only memories of the wild, irrational grief of mortals remain, and so I feel it a step removed. It is as though my mind, remembering my breathing days, tells me I should feel so, but it is difficult. Perhaps, to further the analogy, imagine the pain of losing a distant relative. There is pain, yes, and grief, but it feels removed. Perhaps, as hard as you try –because you think it right to do so– you cannot bring yourself to weep.However, as we grow older, we separate from what we once were, leaving our humanity, and the memories of what it brought, behind. For my part, it has been nearly a century since I was Embraced, and already my breathing days feel far behind me. For the most part, it is difficult to remember being mortal and feeling what they felt.In response to the first part of your question, however, there is an easy answer. Many members of Clan Daeva seek to reclaim on some level the emotional side of humanity. At best, this makes them empathetic and understanding, at worst it makes them capricious and cruel, bent on satisfying their own deviant tastes for the sake of relieving some of the crushing boredom they profess to feel. And trust me, shadowling, deviancy takes on a whole new meaning once you have been walking the earth for several centuries and have sampled everything this world has to offer.I hope my rambling has been in some way informative, shadowling.

I've several thoughts of my own on this of course, but as a devotee of his, I wondered if you might be able to help me. Droll as it might be to send you on the symbology equivalent of a wild goose chase, I see no harm in being honest with you.Regrettably, the honest answer is also the disappointing one. I have spoken to several… authorities on the matter, and the general consensus is that Set does no seem to want the exact nature of the Typhonic Beast known. As I am sure you can well imagine, there are several Kindred scholars who find this infuriating to the point of near madness.
