1. "*extremely* popular white up and comer in a predominantly PoC space"
2. the post-internet AND post-covid parasocialality of "my fav is the best fuck your fav" without actually considering the real, human person they're stanning or antiing
3. rage bait generating the most clicks, esp. in the context of point 2.
4. bot traffic being at an all-time high, driving even more rage bait and hatred content
It's impossible to have an honest discussion Caitlin and the league as a whole when a large part of the media is writing whatever will get the most clicks so they can pay for food, and anyone who isn't pro-Caitlin feels threatened by her instead of "dang, I can't wait to see my fav play her."
It also doesn't help that online spaces are where people who have an opinion they want to voice go, so the large majority of people who don't care either way, or might just be more level-headed in general, just don't ever post about it.
I don't *think* the end goal is to get a player (Caitlin, or otherwise) to kill themselves, but I *am* worried it's going to happen eventually (again, Caitlin or otherwise). And then, even if it does, probably nothing will change, and no one will learn anything.
Or, maybe as she plays longer, more people will start to respect how good she is, instead of despise how good she is, ALA the Lebrons, Currys, and Bradys. I hope that's what happens.

have had that same thought as point 1 for awhile too! the 2nd one i never even considered but it definitely fits the bill, especially when you consider the era players like cc, paige, & angel blew up in.
to the point about online spaces and opinions like ts is SO TRUE. i've had such huge conversations of substance and nuance with people regarding cc, people with BIG accounts within the space but they don't post about it because they just don't consider it worth it- which i get. they don't care. claire's substack article was really well done and i wish more people who are capable of being pro cc without veering too far into #that territory let their voices be heard but I SO get why not
