sumia definitely has generalized anxiety disorder, which can be seen even in her every day interactions. she often finds herself stuttering and overworrying and tripping over herself which causes her to become more flustered, and ultimately results in her becoming overwhelmingly anxious and embarrassed. in her supports with cordelia, she explains that picking petals from flowers makes her feel at ease, as she uses them as a guide to ‘predict the future.’ what she really says is “it will be okay” and plucks one, and then “it will not be okay” and plucks another. she waits to see the answer until all of the petals are plucked, but if she ends it on “it will not be okay” she continuously picks them for plucking until she ends on “it will be okay.” it’s a coping mechanism that helps remind her that despite her troubles, things in their battles and every day lives will be alright and that she doesn’t have to fret so much, OR she uses it as a motivation to be careful to turn the odds in her favor. when cordelia tells sumia to stop ( because she was concerned for her ), sumia does stop for a while but realizes how distraught it makes her. she informs cordelia of why she does it, and of course cordelia understands and allows her to continue.
in the beginning she even mentions to chrom, “It's just that... I'm not sure I'm quite ready for a proper mission just yet. I'd probably just get in the way.” and deals a lot with feelings of inadequacy, incompetence, and worries greatly what other people think of her. also when she seems chrom with lucina (in the event that she is married to him) she just Automatically assumes that chrom has chosen someone else over her given how replaceable she thinks that she is. she doesn’t understand and becomes confused with the situation and immediately starts questioning if her (current) baby is alright and if anything terrible has happened.
anyways her anxieties show themselves often through physical symptoms, like i mentioned before with stuttering and becoming clumsier than usual, she also drums her fingers, bites her lip, bites her fingernails, taps her feet, and bounces her leg when she’s sitting down. it’s often hard for her to keep still, so she will be moving her feet which makes her even more prone to losing her footing. she’s scatterbrained because her thoughts take her every which way and it’s often hard for her to articulate her thoughts.
she often has panic attacks and a fear that her comrades will die again, after seeing all of her fellow pegasus knights (excluding cordelia) fall before her. she will become reminiscent of past memories to do with the war and her childhood which lead to episodes of hyperventilation and uncontrollable thoughts. she most often has them after better (most most often in the battles closer to the time of the pegasus knights’ deaths)
