Design Research

The pictograms serve to represent a set of four diverse animals with varying characteristics and body types while unifying them through an appealing visual system. By constraining the general shape of each animals into that of a circle and heavily simplifying their identifying characteristics, the four animals fit into an instantly apparent visual style without sacrificing individuality. Other design choices further unify the pieces such as making their shapes solid black, use of negative space to create the animals’ distinct features/patterns, and the identical size of the eyes, with placement varying to maintain relative anatomical accuracy (although they remain stylized as small, simple circles).
