wind runs through the pines outside when she asks for gold—i am in mourning; i listen to her, i remove the chain from her mouth, it’s wet, she continues talking, puts the wisp of hair behind her ear, presses her finger; i touch her face (dreaming), she, with no afterthought, shuts her cave eyes, i lean in to feel her skin, then kiss her forehead; she is mute, waits—breathes, puts her hand over my chest, my thumping heart gives it all away, she smiles, comes close to my coal lips.
