"Will!! You have to save her! We won't make it unless we have all of us!"

“Don’t you have a spell or something?!”

Will looked genuinely concerned for a moment, as if it were really life and death and not just a game, though there was no hiding the faint flickers of amusement in his eyes, worrying at his bottom lip.

"I have..um—yeah, raise dead."

Everyone went quiet for a long moment, Dawn peeking out from her arm over her eyes from her spot on the floor, eyebrows raised slightly.

Mike straightened up in his seat, hiding his stifled amusement, the forced serious voice slipping back into place. "You're high enough level?"

Will nodded, more serious this time. "Mhm, I wrote it down last session."

There was a beat of quiet, Mike exhaling with a faint nod. "Okay, you cast raise dead."

There was no laughter or chatter this time. Well..except for the faintest snicker from Dustin when he looked down at Dawn trying her hardest to play dead on the floor. She was failing spectacularly.

Mike reached under the table and pulled out the dice. Not the d20 everyone was used to, but the two ten-sided ones—the weird ones. One red, one white. He didn’t look up when he rolled them between his palms, just stared down at the DM screen like it might give him an answer early.

Dawn propped herself up on her elbow, trying to peek at the table, everyone focused on the table. Lucas and Dustin were not so subtly trying to peer over the screen, Mike halfheartedly glaring at them in return.

The dice hit the table with a soft thud, spinning on the surface for a moment before stilling. For a long moment, Mike didn't say anything, thankful for the divider hiding most of his face, including the faintest upturn of his lips. That didn't mean anything though, he was a total shithead and honestly would've been at least a little amused regardless of the outcome.

"Mike," Dustin's eyebrows furrowed faintly, "Dude."

"C'mon, what is it?" Lucas demanded, trying to peek over again, Mike pushing his head back with a soft "Quit it."

Mike's gaze flicked over the dice and his notes, Dawn sitting up on the floor, evidently abandoning any pretense of pretending to be dead.

"Mike.." it was Will this time, more serious.

"Okay, okayy, don't yell at me!" Mike sighed dramatically, moving the dice so everyone could see. "Seventy four."

There was a short moment of silence where everyone was doing the math in their heads, before everyone erupted in chatter again.

"That's under her constitution!" Dustin practically shouted, palms slamming against the table.

"She lives!"

A soft snort managed to escape from Will, nudging her under the table, eyes widening faintly at her very sudden, very dramatic gasp. "I knew my robust physical form would save me!"

Mike suppressed laughter, biting the inside of his cheek to stifle the sound, trying, and failing miserably to save face. Eventually, he managed to get it somewhat together, "Don't get too excited. You're alive, barely. You lose a point of constitution, you've been dead for like, a minute, you feel awful."

On cue, Dawn gave a theatrical groan as she situated herself back in her seat.

"So..it worked..?" Will's eyebrows furrowed faintly, but relaxed when Mike spoke again, shoulders dropping.

"It worked." Mike confirmed with a slight nod before turning back to Dawn. "You wake up weak, disoriented, and very pissed at whatever killed you."

Dawn narrowed her eyes at him, "Can I be dramatic about it?"

There was a collective "Oh no" as Mike didn't even hesitate. "Better be."

The brunette girl clutched her chest "I've returned from the shadow realm!"

Dustin groaned, feigning exasperation, rubbing a hand over his face. "We brought her back worse!"

Will laughed, shaking his head at the display but there was something softer in his gaze now, amused and begrudgingly fond. "Next time, try not to die."

Dawn only hummed, shooting him a playful glare. "I think I might die again just to spite you."
