Around 2015, a set of six GIFs would easily reach 30 thousand notes. Notes being the “likes” and “reblogs” that people leave on the post. The ratio then was easily 2:4. For instance, a post would have 2000 likes and 4000 reblogs. While every note is greatly appreciated by content creators, reblogs are the more superior option to use. A reblog allows the content to be spread among more and more people. A like simply rests quietly, eventually forgotten by the person who liked it. Anyone even slightly familiar with content sharing knows that the whole point… is sharing…

So, while it may be a shock to those unfamiliar with Tumblr, these numbers have changed drastically. A set of six GIFs will be very, very, very lucky to gain 1000 notes. And the ratio for posts like this? 4:2 at the absolute best. Not only have the notes themselves dropped by tens of thousands, but the ratio of likes to reblogs is completely flipped! From 30 thousand notes with 25 thousand reblogs, to 1000 notes with 800 likes. You don’t have to be a mathematician to know that these numbers… simply don’t make sense.

As many of you might already know, Australia is on fire. Bushfires are very common in Australia, we have them every year, except these fires are worse than ever. The fires started back in September 2019 and they still burn today. Nobody knows when they may slow down, but for the time being we need help and to support our nation. 

I’m making this post because I can’t just sit and watch all of this happen without somehow helping my country. I am lucky enough that I have not needed to evacuate, but I know people that have evacuated, lost their homes and now have nothing left. For those that don’t truly understand the impact of these fires, here’s some statistics:

12 million acres of land have burned across Australia

At least 4 million hectares have burned in New South Wales alone, which is four times what burned in the Amazon fires last year

At least 23 people have died as of today: Sat 4th Jan 2020

Nearly half a billion (480 million) of wildlife have been killed

New Zealand skies are smokey from NSW Bushfires which is 2,000 km (1,200 miles) away

I just want to raise awareness and money to help my country.

Footnote 1: There are height limits too but they’re not as important since ppl don’t often make graphics in those sizes, but the 540 x 810 max for photo posts is the one that will come up the most. And so you know, the white little spaces (margins) between gifs are 4 pixels. 

Footnote 2: In the triple set, if you don’t use the 178 pixel width for the middle piece, it will be blurry. This is slightly new adjustment by Tumblr to compensate for the leftover pixel. 177 x 3 = 531 then + 8 for the margins = 539. 1 extra pixel. Phew math, hard. 

Footnote 3: About 24-30 frames usually can be stuffed into full width gifs, 30-70+ in double and triple gifs. I don’t recommend skipping frames, unless it’s really warranted. Skipping frames is gauche. 

He sees all these people getting on preparing to attack him, and they are all the faces of men he has worked with over the last few weeks and months, maybe years.  Men he’s trusted.  Lives he’s saved.  Comrades in arms.  His team, as much as he’s had one.

That is the look of bleakness, as someone else gets on and Steve thinks, “You?  I liked you.  I thought you were better than this.  Oh god, don’t make me do this.”
