Speaking of her PubSec friend, here comes Irene now! The officer opens Karma’s door with her hip, a small clay pot with a matching lid held between two thick crocheted pot holders, one a daisy and the other a sunflower. She wasn’t in her usual uniform, instead wearing a nice cotton deep cut blouse and a knee length skirt. She still wore heels, though not the pantyhose she normally wore with her uniform leaving smooth bare legs to be seen.
“Karma?” She ventures quietly, almost hesitantly. Boss had told her that Karma had woken up, but she wasn’t sure if she might have fallen back asleep. She smiles though, a warm, genuine smile that was a far cry from the usual scowl she had when dealing with the pinkette when she saw that she was awake. “It’s good to see you awake again troublemaker.”
She walks into the room, moving to the bedside table and adjusting the pot so she could set down the sunflower pot holder first before the pot. She then takes the lid off, revealing the fragrant chicken soup. It appeared to be rich and creamy, with various chopped vegetables and rice intermixed with the rich golden broth and shredded chicken. The room fills quickly with the scent of garlic, onions, and other herbs meant to coax an appetite into the sick. Irene bends down, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
“I told mom that you had caught a cold so she insisted on making you soup.” Irene explains, gently blowing on it to cool it some. “It’s still hot however so be careful. She’ll be devastated if you burn your tongue.”
Replacing the lid, she moves then to sit on the bed. She reaches for Karma, her fingers gracing along her cheek as she leans in close almost as if she intends to kiss her. Right at the last moment however, her fingers shift upwards, brushing her bangs out of the way to press her forehead against Karma’s. She closes her eyes, quiet for a moment before leaning back again. “No fever…good. I was a little worried for a second with how well she froze you.”
She falls quiet for a moment then smiles, tears glimmering in her eyes. “I’m really glad you’re okay Karma, you stupid son of a bitch.”
It seemed for now Karma was stuck in this form, regardless of not feeling too much anger like the Boss and her speculated brings on these forms, it seemed Karma’s body was having a hard time reverting. These moments alone made her mind race, she wasn’t human anymore… not exactly. Even if she called it a “form” it was still apart of her and something she was going to have to live with for the rest of her life.
However, what breaks her from those thoughts was the sound of the door clicking and in coming-
She held a pot in her hands, shutting the door with her hips. What she wore surprised Karma, it wasn’t like she expected the only thing for Irene to wear was her uniform but… she had never seen her in anything else so it was a shock and… brought some warmth to the Oni’s chest. The officer that had brought her to jail over and over on the silliest of charges was here now, in civilian clothing and bringing food for her.
It felt like a dream, the way she sounded so worried, how she approached the bed like Karma was sick with a fatal illness and that pot of soup, its aroma filled the room so quickly but when Irene got so close to Karma all she could smell was that heavenly scent of hers. Oh… this was new, this wasn’t perfume this was… Irene’s smell specifically. The Oni would take a moment, shut her eyes and sniff silently. Damp stone walls, a garden, fine sheets and… Safety. It was relaxing, so much so that when she opened her eyes, Irene was right there, leaning in, the touch of her hand on one of Karma’s cheeks causing her to blush.
Was she… really going to kiss her? No… She was checking for a fever. There was some disappointment in that but the woman was taking care of her, what more could she want? Karma did have to shift a little, just so the top of Irene’s head wouldn’t knock against her two long horns. Karma finds that her arms were raising to try and encircle the woman’s hips but she leaned away before she could do so, causing those arms to lay at her side once again except when she sees a couple of tears form on the Officers cheeks.
That’s when a hand raises, gently caressing the woman’s cheek and letting a thumb wipe away a stray tear. She could call her whatever she’d like, it’s ok.
“Sorry… You went through all this trouble cause of me.” Karma’s voice was a little deeper, each word had a bit of bite to them but that was because of the Oni blood that runs through her now. “Thank you. For coming to check up on me. Is… everyone ok? Boss told me what happened, what I did and… No one got hurt right?”
That’s what was really on Karma’s mind, what kind of damage she’s done, what kind of punishment she’ll face and what Boss would have to do because of it. She frowns deeply, how much trouble has she made everyone else’s lives for taking a serum from what she thought was a trusted source? Now everything felt upside down and she just… needed Irene here more than anything right now regardless if she didn’t deserve it.
