That laugh… it sounded as horrible as it looked, like the woman tried to mimic what laughter looked like, getting better at the emotion with each breath till she bellows out a cackle that reminded Boss of those who had lost their minds during the fall of the old capital. The stoic face on the bartenders features cracks a little, a hand slipping under the bar to the knife held under it as the woman slaps the countertop like she’s heard the funniest little joke.
What the hell was she gabbing about? Not so easy leaving their arrangement? Watch her, it’s not as if she hasn’t-
The recoil on Boss’s face when she heard her own name spoken by someone else in who knows how long was written like someone stamped the emotion of “stunned” on her features. Clear as day. Easy to pick out. And then Devonna kept talking, her words twisting into a threat Rae was not going to let slide as in a flash, the sound of a blade being drawn from under the countertop cuts through the air, its metal tip pressing lightly on the other woman’s throat.
“I don’t care who you are, what kinda games you’re playing at, I know my sins, but the moment you start threatening those girls? I’ll be more than willing to take the BOTH OF US to Hell and settle our debts with the devil.”
That hand which holds the knife stays for a moment, Dev no doubt could feel the shake in Rae’s hand. Fear? Anger? Loathing? All of the above? Maybe. There was only one thing left to say when she pulled her arm back.
“Get out of my Bar and don’t return.”
