i think it makes sense for sanji to be transfemme. beyond even the getting sent to transgender island stuff. growing up in a conservative, male chauvinist environment, knowing that shes different from the people around her. knowing she differs from what her father considers a man. and being shamed for it. leaving and joining the strawhats and being celebrated and loved for who she is ....

as much as people don't like franky's time skip design, and I do think it's unappealing. it does so much for his character, in my mind. the visible stitching, the metal legs, the huge shoulders and arms. just the visual and the context of his previous design. it all conveys the idea that franky is a self made cyborg and I find it extremely compelling. like. he removed his own arms and replaced them with bigger ones, the stitching on his next implies the invokes the idea of surgery without explicitly saying it! I think pre time skip franky just looked like a weird guy with weird proportions, kindof how everyone looks in one piece. post time skip - that's a guy who made himself into a cyborg
