Itterations of the story, for instance, that have Clark as the waterboy for their football team must inevitably have had some sequence where a janitor or someone asks Clark why he doesn't take, say, a runningback position instead, where as opposed to, say, guard or quarterback, his relative indestructability wouldn't be so obvious. This being the same man who once saw Clark running home over miles and miles, and then later saw him step into the way of a derailed empty train car to save a single cow.

Clark would of course put on a sheepish smile, try to hide how wide his shoulders are, and say something like "Ma doesn't really want me playing. She thinks it's a violent sport. And between you and me, I get shin splints."
