up until, maybe, two weeks ago, I've never actually checked what genres my favourite music artists usually prefer to do, but they are all almost exclusively indie folk! I am a big fan of indie folk, folk rock and alt folk... just all folk i suppose lmao. I am a very whimsical person frfr

have you ever heard of this amazing band called The Amazing Devil??? They, truly, live up to their name, because they are amazing !!!! They are great lyricists and absolutely stunning singers and musicians! Their songs are a lot of fun to analyze and interpret and daydream scenarios to!! + they literally invented singing about love I swear on my kneecaps, if you haven't heard Fair or Marbles or Chords or Welly Boots or Battle Cries or- dang this a long list... you have NOT heard a love (romantic, platonic, or familial) song before! I cannot recommend it enough to give them a try, especially if you're into acoustic music with awesome lyrics!

They also held an absolutely FENOMENALLLL performance a little over a month ago iirc, and I definitely recommend checking it out, even if it was silly and clumsy and definitely unprofessional in some places lmao! (here's a drive link to the audio of the performance: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mzi3toGLNzk1DSaE9C251IUkERAtAwW3/view?usp=drivesdk) the songs that I would recommend the most from the performance are The Drinking Song for the Socially Anxious (starting 2:52), Fair (starting 34:40), and Inkpot Gods (starting 1:07:32). Literally cannot recommend these songs enough, they are fenomenal and I listen to them for days on end!!! (you can hear somebody crying in the audio mid-way through Fair and honestly, completely fucking fair. Ha! See what I did there????)

Fun fact: Joey Batey, who is the male lead singer + plays like a whole bunch of instruments for the band, is the guy that plays Jaskier in the Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher! He is also the one that sings Toss A Coin To Your Witcher, if you're familiar! That's also where a big part of the the amazing devil fandom found out about the band (not me, though, I found out about them from a warrior cats-inspired oc map call that never got finished.......)

They're also going to be releasing a new album (the last one came out in 2021) fairly soon, actually! They didn't specify the date yet, but they did say that it's almost done and that we should possibly anticipate it either later this year or early next year and I'm so dang excited!! (They also showed off one of the unreleased songs from the newest album during the performance, which starts at 50:50 in the audio file) Alright, enough of the amazing devil (that's a lie, there could never be too much of the amazing devil!!), I'm just going to go through some honorary mentions (in no particular order): Big fan of The Crane Wives!! They have a very whimsical feel to them even if they're not singing about happy times, and they're very fun to daydream to! My favourite song of theirs is Discovery, and I actually relate to it a lot and it's one of the songs I would say I would associate with myself if I were a character lmao I talked about Gigi Perez multiple times here (and actually dropped an entire analysis of her album At The Beach, In Every Life as Tyler's / Ashler album, which you can read here!)

veryyyyyy big fan of The Oh Hellos!!! They have a somewhat similar feel to The Amazing Devil (not quite the same, though). My favourites from them are Constellations, Second Child Restless Child, Torches, Hello My Old Heart, and Passerine! Also love Adrianne Lenker and the entire 'songs' album!! lastly (but not leastly! (that's not a word lmao)), Flatsound!! I've talked about him a couple of times here! He's awesome, his songs are very raw and full of feelings, and so many of his songs are incredibly underrated! (The ones I listen to being: It's Thursday January 12th and This Is the Last Time I'll Talk About Drowning, Summer or Spring, You're An Artifact, I Exist I Exist I Exist, I Hope You're Okay, To See You Alive, and the entire If We Could Just Pretend album!!)

dude, tragedry, you're amazing. GENUINELY. tyler hernandez can be SO MISCHARACTERIZED as someone who's rude. just... plain rude. that's NOT TRUE. he's my SON. he lives in my HEART. he deserves the WORLD.

see idg why he's depicted so terribly in the fandom, the worst thing he did was question ashlyn's leadership and sincerity, which to me given the high stress, near death situation is perfectly reasonable!

just because he's a lot more pragmatic than the rest of the gang doesn't mean he's a bad guy 💔 what happened to nuance? what happened to having diversity in the group? they can't all be immediately onboard with a halfbaked plan, especially when they've only met each other a handful of times. PLUS it makes for a better story when tension is involved (as a writer, making ash and tyler argue over the plan was the perfect way for ashlyn to explain herself to the cast AND the readers)

all of this to say that tyler is a nuanced character with a lot of amazing development throughout the webtoon and it's such a shame that most readers immediately categorize him a stereotypical jock or asshole when he's so much more than that 💔💔💔

it's because there are sooo many people out there that take things at face value... it's genuinely a little scary to live in a world where I know a single mistake on my part might make someone perceive me as something I'm usually not.

I think I've said this, like, a 1000 times before, but this is a great example of how important first impressions actually are to our perception of people. Like, the first thing we get to know about Tyler is that he's 1) easy to anger 2) loud when angry and 3) generally seems to have an attitude (1. during the first proper conversation we hear him engage in in chapter 3, he keeps pushing that the gang should go back Savannah, despite the fact that they already agreed that it was too dangerous 2. immediately blames Ashlyn 3. gets angry and loud when called out. All of that, in total, + counting all the other times we see him being easily irritable or judgemental or anything of that sort, makes up for a... not so positive first impression of Tyler to most people. At least as a person; remember, kids, characters aren't real people, and you can totally absolutely adore a character that you genuinely think is a horrible human being!! you can find a character annoying and still love them!

(warning: pseudoscientist speaking, feel free to correct me on anything)

All that to say, we (as a species) love putting things into neat boxes and categorizing them, because it is much easier for our brains to do that instead of trying to analyze every single thing you see around you (similarly to how you know an apple is an apple without having to thoroughly analyze it first). Which also means that, once we label something in a certain way, it might be hard to change the way we think of it.

Tyler gets labeled as 'the jerk' early on; now, whenever he does something nice, the thought process is most likely not 'oh, he wasn't actually a jerk', it's more like 'he's usually a jerk but he did a nice thing' and it'll take many repetitions of doing those 'nice things' before the bias is gone. (it doesn't help that Tyler isn't a cinnamon roll and he is, in fact, pragmatic and blunt, which some people might find to be 'jerk behavior' that further feeds into the belief that he is one bc of confirmation bias)

Unfortunately, this means that some people might straight up look past all of his character development, simply because they're still stuck on the version of him they saw in the first 20 chapters of the story 💔

Do you have any headcanons about the Hernández brothers regarding their nationality? Like, whether they might have Mexican, Colombian, or any other Hispanic country ancestry, or even if they speak spanish at home, or among themselves in the group when they want to have a private conversation just between them?

i've always hc that they're mexican and i've definitely indulged in a few hcs and fic ideas about their fluency in spanish, i don't really have a set or dedicated hc that i want to permanently put in all of my works because on one hand i love the idea that the twins kept up with their spanish lessons as they grew up and can easily communicate in each other with no problem, but on the other hand there's an added level of angst in the concept of spanish being something they no longer are attuned to given how no one's around to help them learn it until they slowly become estranged to the language altogether

This is probably stupid because no one cares about characters enough these days (most only care for ships anymore, I say as I’m talking about a ship…) to actually consider if but I think we should focus more on Tyler’s passion for hair and piercings—as said by Red herself—instead. I personally suggest we call them piercing star. It’s a real thing and I think it combines their ACTUAL interest better.

It’s not the fact they are twins that they are so attached. If they were regular siblings, I bet they’d be the same. It’s canon that Taylor and Tyler have separation anxiety, as said by Red on an insta post, so it’s not a ‘twin’ thing. They have their own hobbies but they are so close because for the longest time they ONLY had each other. They have a dead father and an emotionally absent mother. Tyler never had friends because he had to take care of his mother and sister and Taylor never got close to anyone because she needed to stay with Tyler. They are close because of trauma not because of the fact they are twins. Also, everyone is different. There are several sets of twins that grow old together or stay together because they have a bond different from other siblings. It’s not like they don’t fight either, they obviously will have disputes as people, but what’s show on screen is them having to be close to each other and everyone else because of their situation.

THANK YOU! i've seen this post on pinterest before and realized that sometimes people just don't understand how deep anxiety and grief can go.

a lot of people in the comments of this post (and posts similar to this one) were mainly complaining about how they always dress similarly. first off, that's... an interesting thing to get your panties in a twist about. but second, it's their way of reminding each other that they still have someone to lean on.

as a person who used to have horribly debilitating separation anxiety from a couple of people in my life (i've somewhat gotten better--still struggling though), i LIKE this representation a LOT. your average joe matching shirts with his best bro is not going to have much effect but shits and giggles. but THIS? they've went through hell and back together. their father died before their eyes, and they are actively watching their mother go down a path she might not come back from. they ARE alone in that aspect, but they're alone together.

so god forbid that these two, who have been taught that family is bound to break, stick with each other, match outfits, and constantly look for one another in the room.

it's their way of coping. it's endearing. and you know what? i'll write a damn fic about it.

still can't get over the fact that we (the audience) don't get to see the expression ashlyn was making when she gives tyler her apology.

can't begin to put into words how significant it is to have them share this moment together, where tyler is the sole receiver of ashlyn's moment of vulnerability.

and the fact that she had been crying not too long ago from the weight of responsibility and her guilt for leaving him, her emotions were all over the place, and the first thing she does is go to check on him as soon as she felt something was off.

lowkey idk whether it was intended that way or it Red just decided not to draw the face (as a fellow artist, I can 100% understand the decision LMAO), but it's such a powerful visual communication tool to convey the sheer intimacy of that moment!

That moment is so important to them, so inherently intimate, that not even we, the viewers, the omniscient third party that is able to see all, are allowed to come into that space. Ashlyn's expression is only for Tyler to see, an act of trust and familiarity. All we can see is the effect it has on Tyler; we can only guess what it could be, based on on the reaction it brings out even from somebody as emotionally reserved as Tyler.

(of course, you gotta also consider that he, essentially, just resurrected, and has cried not so long ago after reuniting with the family he's been fighting for so much and which he thought he'd never see again, so he is probably feeling more emotional and sentimental than normal. Still, with how surprised he looks, it seems to be his moment of realization that 'oh, she cares a lot'. And the next thought is much more subconscious, more of a feeling than a realization, but, undeniably, it's there: 'I care, too, and I don't want her to feel bad because of me')

The gang is there and can probably see it, too, but it doesn't hit them quite as hard because it's not directed at them.

Overall, a beautiful moment that showcases how far they've come as a duo, having built all that trust and loyalty over time as two souls who, if not for the whole phantom dimension thing, might've never made it as far as even simply talking to each other (not necessarily because they wouldn't have gotten along, they don't hate each other; it's just that they've been living such different lives up until this moment and both have their reasons as to why they shouldn't and wouldn't go out of their way to befriend people), let alone becoming so close.
