BURP ENTERPRISE JOURNAL

miniLab is a project curated by Laura Leiner open to experimental and improvised music. After three years and thirteen editions, it has established itself as a space for musical experimentation. Each event offers an unusual program that also focuses on women and FLINTA artists from Berlin’s experimental music scene. This year’s edition will take place as a monthly event from June to October and will be held at the Ölbergkirche - Nebenraum in Kreuzberg. The first evening will feature two solo performances and a duo, and to close the evening, they will all play together as a quartet.

On Wednesday June 10th BUSS: Big & Ugly Soundsystem and Soliversal set another fundraiser event for our beloved VK. Mat Pogo will open the dances together with Matthias Koole on guitar and Utku Tavil on drums. The official press release from the press offices of BUSS and Soliversal reads as follows: Sun is out, the garden on the lighthill, is beautiful as ever, and the risk of loosing your eyesight due to horrific graphic design accompanied by excess volumes is real!

Here it is; a small weekday concert evening in support of VK's ongoing existential issues...

There are some first time collaborations alongside no-fashion-high-pressure basement action as well as a 2 on 1, hands-on personalized sound therapy by @ibsen_minothi 's "electrical dental chair" throughout the evening.

Basement with #biganduglysoundsystem, in the hands of @kaffematthews and @lottiesebes with their respective solo performances, upstairs, two trios at the far edges of dynamic spectrum as well as an attempt to what the future might look like on underground stages and in the garden the chair action for everyone to try it out! Bar is as cheap as it gets, the pretty berliner sunset with the view of trains is the cherry...

Come celebrate the release of YORGO FLAT! #1, the new comic collection by Mat Pogo at Anagram Space, in Erlanger Strasse 8, in Neukölln, Berlin. Sunday June 7th, at Five, for teatime.

Printed in raw black and white and wrapped in a sharp A5 pocket format, this first issue unfolds across 40 pages of graphic short stories, derailed puzzle games, impossible metaphors, cracked rebuses, and other narrative malfunctions.

After Jealousy Party a few months ago, Mat Pogo has been invited again to be part of Glass, a series of experimental and avant-garde music, and a deep exploration of the aural perception curated by Munsha. Penates have been invited to perform on 6 June as part of the Performance Series, which takes place on the first Saturday of every month at K77 Studio. Penates, the duo consisting of Mat Pogo (found sounds, playback devices, voice) and JD Zazie (found sounds, playback devices), will have the pleasure of performing and sharing the evening with Guilherme Rodriguez on the cello and Roberta Ricci in dance.

The K77 Performance Series is an intimate, accessible platform dedicated to both emerging and established underground artists. It serves as a dynamic space for new collaborations, creative experiments, and boundary-pushing live work. The series welcomes a wide array of artistic expressions, seamlessly spanning from Contemporary dance and physical theatre to Live music, sound art and poetry, to Multimedia, installations and cross-disciplinary projects.

For the 21st edition of blurred edges, Frequenzgänge presents six figures from the international improvisation scene, who approach the evening as a collaborative, open-ended sound laboratory: drummer Vasco Trilla is regarded as the ‘alchemist of percussion’ – with a radically exploratory approach, he transforms any object into an instrument and unfolds shimmering soundscapes. Vocalist and composer Sarah Buchner explores the voice’s versatility, ranging from intimate whispers to choral intensifications and surreal sound collages, whilst clarinettist and saxophonist Edith Steyer weaves jazz, new music, electronics and influences from ethnic music into detailed, noise-oriented improvisations. Using CDjs, turntables and mixers, turntablist JD Zazie blurs the boundaries between DJ culture, musique concrète and free improvisation. In works such as ‘Indoor compositions and decompositions’ or ‘Spectrum: Ghost’, cellist, vocalist and performance artist Paula Sanchez pursues an embodied understanding of sound in which material, space and improvised action intertwine. Finally, electric bassist Gunnar Lettow expands his instrument with preparations and effects to create a sonic laboratory oscillating between microtonal shimmering and eruptive outbursts. An evening full of unpredictable constellations and intense sonic spaces.

The event will take place on Saturday 30 May 2026 at 8.00 pm in Hamburg at Studio 16 | Barnerstr. 16 (on the left in the courtyard).

This year will be the sixth edition of T.A.T.V. festival taking place at Galiläakirche in Berlin from 29 to 31 May. JD Zazie will be performing on the first day of the festival, sharing the bill with Ployz & Kris Limbach, who will be performing “Signal Ruins” and with Jasmine Guffond, who will be presenting the sound sculpture “national interests”.

T.A.T.V. (Temporary Autonomous Tele Vision) is a temporary TV station transmitting 24/7 live concerts, performances of various disciplines and related talks. This program challenges the traditional and social media implied program-formats that tend to derive into commercial exploitation strategies of art and “content” in general. Everything is live filmed, programmed in real time and the “behind the scenes” melts into the staged, creating a amalgam between the two. The program itself discusses all present censorship guidelines through online distribution channels meanwhile strengthening the voice of artists.

T.A.T.V. is curated by Kris Limbach and produced by Mariana Hoyosit. It will take place at Galiläakirche, Rigaer Straße 9, 10247 Berlin

REANIMATION ORCHESTRA is an international open-structured multidisciplinary group of musicians united by their desire to blur the boundaries between the roles of composer, interpreter and improviser. Through our work over the last seasons, we have investigated what these roles mean to each of us, and enquired as to how we can fulfil them with openness, artistic integrity, and authenticity, both as a group and at an individual level. We present our work through a diverse range of sonic resources, encompassing string, woodwind and brass instruments, as well as live and pre-recorded electronics.

The Reanimation Orchestra is currently formed by seven Berlin-based musicians: JD Zazie (turntables, CDjs), Ingólfur Vilhjálmsson (bass and contrabass clarinets), Marie Takahashi (viola), Jack Adler-McKean (tuba, other brass instruments), Caroline Cecilia Tallone (prepared hurdy hurdy), Guilherme Rodrigues (violoncello) and Elo Masing (violin).

They will be performing on 20 May at Hošek Contemporary in Berlin and will share the evening with the trio formed by Daisy Payero (improvised theatrics), Joe Hertenstein (stonetabelpercussionkithybrid), Rieko Okuda (piano, viola). The concert will start at 7 pm

TRIGGER OBJECT (USA) Vern Avola is a composer, multimedia artist, instructor, and champion of friendship, based in Portland, Oregon. Known for their solo project Trigger Object, as well as performances under the monikers EMS, Avola, and Dirty Centaur, Avola's work thrives in the unpredictable, messy corners of life, weaving together deep electronic soundscapes, raw energy, and a wry sense of humor.

HEBBEX D’EXPECTATIO EXPECTATA As a duo, Kjetil Brandsdal (Noxagt, Ultralyd, No Balls) and Thore Warland (Staer, Golden Oriole, Tørrfall, Plan Affine) have released a series of albums in which they have reworked a wide range of source material from music history. In Hebbex D’expectatio Expectata, they continue this thread, now joined by Helge Thornes, who has a background in dancehall and psychobilly (Troubletone Soundsystem, HBX Crew, Oransjt Mareritt). The lyrics on their new album explore Aubrey Beardsley’s unfinished novels, Roman tragedies, and Norwegian newspaper journalism.

.PK./JDZ (Berlin) The duo of İpek Odabaşı and JD Zazie has spent the past couple of years disrupting Berlin’s underground with acts of aural sabotage. Their heterodox use of playback devices subverts DJ gear, driving a virulent sonic abstraction and inner tectonic shifts.

To mark the Labor Day 2026, √m³ (Mirco Magnani/Munsha/Mat Pogo/Valentina Bardazzi) presents an evening that combines an exhibition of iconographic composite portraits by Valentina Bardazzi, live music interventions, and video projections — as a solidarity act of resistance exploring the concept of "Struggle."

The performative and installation-based arrangement links archival material on labor struggles and diverse working realities, connecting historical memory, the present, and contemporary artistic practice.

Real-time sound processing and suspended pencil drawings are embedded in an immersive, deeply impactful spatial environment through video art.

The event is complemented by a vinyl selection from guest artist Lichene, who "explores the possible meanings of a distant future."

Funded by the Department of Culture and History Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg as part of the project fund “Kultur zum 1. Mai !”

Anlässlich des Tags der Arbeit präsentiert √m³ (Mirco Magnani/Munsha/Mat Pogo/Valentina Bardazzi) einen Abend, der eine Ausstellung ikonografischer Komposit-Porträts von Valentina Bardazzi, Live-Musik-Interventionen und Video-Projektionen verbindet – als solidarischen Akt des Widerstands in einer Bearbeitung des Begriffs „Kampf“.

Das performative und installative Dispositiv verknüpft Archivmaterial zu Arbeiterkämpfen und zu unterschiedlichen Arbeitsrealitäten, und setzt historische Erinnerung, Gegenwart und zeitgenössische künstlerische Praxis in Beziehung.

Echtzeit-Soundprocessing und schwebende Bleistiftzeichnungen sind mittels Videokunst in einer immersiven, tiefenwirksamen Räumlichkeit eingebettet.

Die Veranstaltung wird durch eine Vinyl-Auswahl der Gastkünstlerin Lichene vervollständigt, die „die möglichen Bedeutungen einer fernen Zukunft untersucht“.

JD Zazie has been invited to share the evening at Galiläakirche with Stephanie Castonguay, who will be presenting her work, following her artistic residency at Liebig12

Stephanie Castonguay "soft_cuts" unfolds as a tactile, luminous ritual for hacked turntables and their interplay using modular synthesis, named for the soft yet lasting marks engraved through time, bodies, and sound. Using Playmobil-built turntables with multiple tonearms, soft_cuts explores fragmented, decomposing bio-vinyls - stacked, layered, and partially erased - read by altered needles, sometimes tracing grooves backward. An experimentalist at heart, Montreal based artist Stephanie Castonguay develops a hands-on practice rooted in materiality, listening, and transformation. Through the construction of DIY instruments and the repurposing of obsolete machines, she explores sound as a living process shaped by touch, decay, and unpredictability. Her work reveals hidden resonances within analog systems, where fragility, accidents, and attention become tools for improvisation and presence.

JD Zazie is an experimental DJ, avant-turntablist, sound artist and curator. Coming from a DJ and a radiophonic background, JD Zazie has explored different approaches to real-time manipulation of fixed recorded sound. In her work she redefines DJ and electroacoustic activities. As a solo performer, in small groups, and in large ensembles, she works in an area which is constantly stretching the borders of what could be defined as DJ mixing, free improvisation and composed music. JD Zazie is a member of Reanimation Orchestra, is part of Hic Up (w/ Marina Cyrino, Tony Elieh, Matthias Koole) and plays regularly solo and duo with Heidrun Schramm and Peter Cusack. She is the art director of the MuseRuole - women in experimental music festival, a member of the Burp Enterprise collective and broadcasts monthly on Colaboradio and on Reboot.fm.

Two performance evenings dedicated to the connecting instrument, the turntable, at Tanzhalle Wiesenburg, Berlin, with The Ellipses (JD Zazie, Claudia Schmitz) and guest artists Mieko Suzuki and Vinyl-terror & -horror.

In a congenial crossover of analogue and digital gestures, of regular and unhinged rotations, clear and broken narratives with gaps, sound and moving images, the artists raise questions about the culture of memory, data archiving and the meaningfulness of media boundaries and temporality, technology and human experience. By questioning their own perspectives and searching for new references, they confront their own fallibility and, through collective experience, expand their own perceptions by developing a new transmedial language and opening up its interpretability to discussion with the audience. The subtitle gap, data loss, skip deliberately refers to the transdisciplinary significance of ellipses and related topics such as freedom of communication, cultures of conversation, cross-genre translation, and the questioning of media boundaries.
