I’ve made a post along these lines before that I can’t find but I saw someone doing on bluesky so i think it’s worth stating again: I agree Scott cawthon donating to conservatives is reason enough to drop fnaf even if it wasn’t dog shit but to compare that Rowling and Harry Potter is either overestimating cawthon’s influence or underestimating Rowling’s. Harry Potter was inescapable for decades. It has fucking theme parks. It made Rowling into a liberal darling for decades, so much so that you still find people making excuse for her transmisogyny even now. The influence she has on trans politics in the UK cannot be understated. Cawthon is a nobody in US politics. I bet if you asked most of the conservatives who he donated to they would not know who he is. Trans politics in the UK would look very different with out Rowling’s fame and money from Harry Potter. Maybe, MAYBE, in another ten years FNAF coupd get big enough if it continues with its current momentum. Even then it’s already a joke to so many who know it now, and cawthon will never be a liberal darling if he becomes a household name. He does not have the same influence on US politics and I doubt he ever will. He doesn’t need to for fnaf to be worth dropping, but I don’t care not appreciate this comparison which necessarily minimizes Rowling’s harm.
