Aiko took a deep, quiet breath. Now seemed as good a time as any, she supposed, and he did know of her intentions. She crossed the room to where Kai stood and, with a level of confidence she didn’t typically have, she pulled his mask down and kissed him.

“We don’t have to use any of those if you aren’t ready for that. I can do plenty with what I already have, I think.”

The kiss momentarily stunned him, and it took a moment to find his voice after she spoke.

HI! HI! HI! HI! HI! HI!

Aiko supposed she should have been a bit more descriptive, but the reaction was probably worth the momentary trauma Kai suffered at stepping unprepared into Aiko’s… Inventory.

“What, did you think I’m all talk?”

Without commenting either way, Aiko led the way up the stairs and down the hallway to her own bedroom. It was larger than the average bedroom in the city, fitting a large bed and a few more bookshelves. There were also a number of houseplants sat in the windowsill.

“You can put your things in the closet if you want.”

She caught herself a second after she’d said it.

“But um, there are some things in there, so– don’t be surprised.”

An eyebrow raised at the mention of things. A number of various things went through his mind but he honestly, after opening the closet door, was surprised by what he found.

“This is.. A fraction of what I own, to be honest.”

She took another glance around the room, unsure of what to do now. Ordinarily she would sit down and relax for a little while, but she didn’t know what was expected of her now.

“We can take your things upstairs, if you’d like. To the bedroom. Or do you want to stay in one of the guest rooms…? Whichever you prefer is fine.”

For once in her life, Eri didn’t seem to even flinch when their hands made contact. She let him take her Snowverhaul, admittedly a little anxious in what he had to say, and when he reached out to give her some praise her cheeks grew even warmer in response.

Overhaul thanked her. He didn’t even show any malicious intent at all.

Eri nodded her head, looking at her red palms and wiggling her fingers and toes. “I think so. My hands are all numby so I can’t make more snowmans, and my socks feel wet…”

Sighing, Kai stood up, then knelt down and picked her up, carrying her in a similar fashion to how Chronos would. If the snow was seeping through the shoes she was wearing, she didn’t need to keep walking.

Aiko took every shortcut that she knew, through parks and alleyways and little narrow streets that led to her home closer to the heart of the city. There were a few steps up to Aiko’s door, and then a security panel into which she entered an elaborate passcode. The sound of the lock clicking, and then she opened the door.

She slipped her shoes off in the genkan and left them against the wall before stepping into the living room. The room seemed to be full of bookshelves, and each shelf filled to capacity. There was a small couch, a coffee table, and though things were still cluttered it was clear that Aiko had put effort into tidying up.

“It’s.. Still not as clean as it could be, but I made sure there isn’t any dust or dirt.”

The home was cluttered, yes, but. Not in a way that messed with him. Kai slipped his shoes off and set his bag down, and then stepped into the living room with her, looking around and taking in the massive book hoard.
