I also think it's important to mention that as a trans girl, I see a lot of other white trans girls appropriating asian culture because they associate it with femininity, which genuinely pmo as a wasian girl (i am more white than asian and am very white passing, so I can't fully provide input on this). This definitely ties into the larger point of the video, bcs I have not seen other people call out these issues and they are usually ignored, and when they are brought up people are just blatantly ignorant ("if i can't see it it doesn't exist"). even i don't feel like I've noticed the issue this person is talking about, but I am not in transmasc spaces so of course I wouldn't see it. I doubt this person has noticed transfem asian appropriation, but I have since I am in largely transfem spaces. but either way, this problem definitely exists in both spaces, and it definitely still needs to be addressed.

see the thing is quite a lot of tumblr prose is like that because it largely wishes to emulate and, if that proves too subtle, essentially become the illusion of terry pratchet and somehow galvanize, revolutionize, and otherwise rock the general tumblr bibliosphere. the main issue with this, as one could surmise and other words that rhyme with "rise", is that every single one of these posts fail to consider that they are not, in fact, terry pratchet, and that his style of satire, comedy, and overall subversion requires a general enjoyment of and appreciation for the very tropes these posts so deeply despise. the other reason it all falls flat is because quite a few of them are just utterly lacking in pacing and wit.

there's a secret problem in that everything MUST revolve around some grand, world-shaking twist that always elects to put the Ideal Person on top, to justify humanity. the little guy must be secretly the most important person in the world, or the reason that humans are so powerful is that they can change unlike elves or the new thin waif du jour. and this is and can be a power fantasy, but it's ill-suited for the type of fiction tumblr posters would rather be writing - a story where a dragon has sex with what is essentially, to them, a very annoying bird.

this in itself reflects on a sort of incuriosity within tumblr prose, this incapability to explore something that isn't just Fantasy Trope But Different. tumblr prides itself on being largely improvisation, yet the stories they tell don't simply take a basic premise and walk through it. it must be a snappy twist, some quip that can be repeated on incorrect-star-trek-quotes, and then a palpable lampshade moment where everyone pauses, turns to the screen, and goes, "wow! i was expecting a cool answer!" and, most importantly, it cannot be interesting. it must be a twist, yes, but the twist must be a mundane explanation that reinforces the status quo. the world is vast, but it must be small enough that adventurers feel stupid for ever thinking it could be exciting.

this was all a very long ramble fueled by a sleeve of rice cakes that overall is meant to convey: stop writing to go viral. the next time you get a writing prompt, take the time to go for an interesting route. and sometimes you don't need to shoehorn in a sex joke oh my GOD
