And our new little baby female! Her name is Violet 💜
Our new additions to the flock 🦜
All boys ☺️ aren’t they just so cute!
I've got two lovely budgies named Sailor Moon and Naruto. Your blog has helped so much with taming them. I've only had the little darlings for two days and they're already comfortable enough with me to step up onto my finger and eat out of my hand. Cheers!
I’m so glad my blog has helped you!
They sound so sweet!
I really haven’t been very active over here on tumblr but I’m going to try to get back to posting a bit!
We are Patiently awaiting our new Aviary to arrive so the budgies can hopefully all move in together again!
Am considering maybe getting another budgie as we’ve only got the 3 now- Mac (female), Kiwi (male) and Sunny (Male). Unsure whether to add another female or another male tho!
I will try to share some updates when the new Aviary arrives & we get it all set up! Have ordered some new perches & things too which I hope the birds love!

Welcome Mac to the budgie family 💕
L
She’s just settling in so im not changing her cage perches for now (I know plastic is not great) but at least it’s not her only option.
Mac was owned by a work colleague who could no longer care for her. She was gifted to them about two years ago as a baby (why you shouldn’t gift people pets). They were told she was a boy but obviously she’s a pretty girl! We thought about changing her name but decided to keep it as Mac as it’s been her name these past two years & we think it suits her!
I am hoping once she settles in we can introduce her to Kiwi and they can become friends 💚 he has been greatly missing having a bird companion/cage mate since Kirby passed away.
I need to know how to take care of my budgies crusty beak. How should I do that?
A crust beak or a crusty cere?
Do they have scaly face mites? Have you considered taking your budgie to a vet for treatment?
Female budgie 'enjoys' biting me
I have two new budgies, one male and one female. Neither of them have been hand trained and were scared of me when we first bought them. However, they are now more trusting, and the male will even step up on my finger to eat the millet that I'm holding in my other hand. The female doesn't want to perch on me just yet, but will take millet, and even seeds, from my hand or between my thumb and forefinger. My problem is, is that she seems to 'enjoy' biting me. It doesn't appear that she's biting out of fear. She will be eating something from my hand, or the male will and in this case she's trying to get where he is, and she will just start biting, softly at first and then harder until she decides to just flat out chew on my finger or hand. It hurts to be honest and I'm not sure what to do to break this habit. I've tried ignoring it, but that's just out of the question for me, because it's not just one bite but a series of painful chews that leave red marks and little bruises at times. And I've also tried firmly (not yelling) saying 'no' and gently blowing at her. Nothing so far seems to get through to her. Do you have any suggestions as to what I can do to get her to stop biting me? I only have the one cage and I'm not comfortable taking either bird out of it just yet as they could still hurt themselves.
ANSWER:
hello,
This is quite common especially with female budgies who tend to be a bit more feisty!
I do find that when budgies are gaining confidence they may be more likely to bite and test boundaries. It’s also common that budgies use their beak kind of like a third hand, you’ll notice they use it to assist them to climb around the cage and even to test perches etc before they decide they’re safe to climb onto.
Personally when my birds used to hop onto my hand and bite me I would move my hand up and down sort of quickly not enough to really startle them but enough to make them lose focus on the biting as they’re trying to regain balance or sometimes they’ll just hop off your hand.
If she’s hitting when just near your hand and not actually on you then I suggest you move your hand out and move the treat away straight away. Wait a minute then bring the treat back- each time she tries to bite you move away. Eventually she’s going to catch on that when she bites you the treat disappears.
The blowing on her face gently is also a good option and something I used to do with my birds who were very tame and would get too playful and begin chewing on my hands/rings and start biting my skin. Again it’s just a tactic to distract them from what they’re doing as usually this kind of biting is more from exploring and not actually being aggressive.
When it does come to birds biting out of aggression you may notice they do it more because they’re protecting a mate, they’re being cage aggressive and defending their environment or another very common reason is to protect a favourite toy especially mirrors which budgies will become obsessive over!

Its been a while since I’ve been on here! But I thought I’d pop on and share a few pictures for anyone that’s still following!
For anyone wondering we share photos quite often over on our Instagram page called @ sarahandpets
This year we had Kirby passed away on the 4th of may which was really sad as she was my first ever budgie :(
Kiwi now lives by himself right next to bandit & the other two budgies Bluebell and Sunny who have now paired up.
They all seem fairly happy although I’m sure Kiwi misses Kirby.
Our little girl Imogen LOVES to feed the birds every morning and spends plenty of time trying to help me sweep up all the feathers and bird seed that ends up on the ground 🤣
We also have our two bunnies Benji and Moe! And we adopted a kitten in december 2019 so life has been busy!
Hi i have 6 budgies for the last 25 days , suddenly today they have started shreding little feathers of their like 20-30 per day and they are scratching more often than earlier days.... What precaution i have to take or any medication for the same
Hi they are likely just moulting, budgies will loose feathers and grow new ones. You will notice lots of little feathers and even wing and tail feathers falling back. The new feather will grow in with a shaft around it to protect it and your budgies will preen themselves to keep their feathers clean and help open up the shaft of the new feather when ready.
Loosing feathers is nothing to worry about as long as your budgies don’t have big bald patches OR the feathers aren’t growing back. It would also be a concern if your budgies were excessively preening. Most budgies will preen and clean themselves happily but if you notice they seem uncomfortable or their skin or feathers don’t look right please contact a vet.
I have 2 budgies, one male, one female. I’ve had them both for a fair few years now. The male is very tame and is a sweetheart, but the female is still incredibly aggressive. Every time I try to change their food she hacks bits out of me. I’ve tried putting her in a different cage incase it’s a territory thing, but it makes no difference where she is. Any idea how I can chill her out and make her stop hating god himself?
Female budgies can be difficult especially when they become hand aggressive. The trigger to their aggression can be multiple things- the cage itself that they think they’re protecting, a toy (especially mirrors) of even the male budgie is it’s her mate especially. Aggression can also be because of fear. Have you ever let the female out of the cage? If yes is the bird still aggressive when out? Have you attempted any hand taming? Letting the bird come to you? Rewarding with treats when not biting? Is the budgie in breeding condition? There are many things that could be contributing so it’s hard to give good advice on how to over come this
I have 2 budgies, male & female I think. Male has the blue cere & the female has pink cere. Female is chasing male around trying to mount, stands on the males tail is it possible she is actually a male? Or what does this behavior mean
Yes it is possible your pink cere budgie is a young male. Sometimes certain colour variations of budgies will keep a pink cere even into adulthood and still be male. Many people are told girl budgies have pink Ceres in reality a Young girl budgie will have more of a white or very light blue and white cere and a young male will be pink or pinkish purple.Adult female- brown an Adult male- dark blue apart from the certain variations that may remain pink.
I recently adopted a budgie due to the previous owner making a cross country move, they didn't want to stress him out with the move because he's between 8-10 years old. When I picked him up I saw that his beak is SUPER long. They said he's not interested in cuttle bones (which he has) and had like 2 old toys so I got some new ones and eventually placed him with budgie pals. Is there anything I can do to grind down the beak without vet interference based on his age?
Sometimes a vet is needed as sometimes budgies beaks will just grow and grow and need to be trimmed. Sometimes certain conditions can cause this to be worse like lack of vitamins.

I got a budgie 3 days ago and he’s already chirping at me, eating from my hand and letting me pat him from the cage? I bought him untamed and he’s settling in so well for the tiny period of time i’ve had him. I was wondering if I should keep trying to tame him even though it’s recommended to leave a budgie 2 weeks to get settled? Thank you
It depends, sometimes budgies will seem to be settling in nicely and hop up onto your hand but they’re doing it out of fear not trust. I would keep sitting near the cage and offering your hand just inside the cage door but not bringing it right up to the budgie as it’s more likely your budgie will be hoping onto your hand from fear if you come to close too soon compared to them choosing to come closer to you if that makes sense?
I got a new young budgie two days ago who, I am trying to get her on to veggies but I can't seem too have you any tips on how I could make her like veg/fruit? Any help would be appreciated
I have a page on this. Www.budgiecare.tumblr.com/fruitandveg Even if they won’t touch it just keep offering small amounts and eventually they will try
