Bucky Barnes

Running towards the door and away from the masked assassin who was chasing you, you finally pushed your way through dodging flying objects as you heard screaming all around you.

When it finally stopped you took a deep breath, checking your surroundings.

Bob, Yelena, Alexei, Ava, and John were all standing before you, everyone looking exhausted.

"You came for us," Yelena looked at her dad before glancing at everyone else. "Are you okay, what did you see?"

No one said a word, making you finally scan the room, "Wait, Where's Bucky?"

Bucky stepped into the room, the air was heavy, and the visuals were dark. He could see the light streaming through the window of your shared bedroom. Taking a deep breath, Bucky saw himself in bed next to you.

He remembered this night painfully. It was a month into your relationship. He hadn't gone to Wakanda yet, he hadn't had the Winter Soldier expunged from his mind.

"No," Bucky shook his head, watching his former self start to whine in his sleep. He pushed himself against the wall, turning to exit the door.

But when he did, he came back into the room through the bathroom door. There was no escape.

He watched in horror as your past self sat up in bed, saying his name in question.

"Doll, stop," Bucky whispered, watching as your hand touched his face. You looked back at the present Bucky with distant eyes before turning yourself back and placing your palm on your Bucky.

Without warning, the Winter Soldier's cold eyes opened, grabbing your throat with urgency and slamming you into the bed as he got on top of you.

Your eyes went wide, feeling the cold metal of his fingers wrapped around your neck, squeezing the life out of you.

Bucky cried, watching the Winter Soldier slowly cut off your oxygen just like he had that night. "Stop," Bucky closed his eyes, shaking his head. "Stop."

"B-Bucky," You choked out, scratching your nails down the Winter Soldier's face and neck as you pleaded for him to release you.

"Please," Bucky collapsed on the ground, holding his head in his hands as he pulled at his hair, "Please stop." He could do nothing but rock back and forth, hearing the sounds of you crying and sputtering as his past self choked you.

"Bucky?" He heard your voice in the distance but continued to keep his eyes closed as he shook his head.

"Bucky?!"

Suddenly, a hand grabbed onto his arm, making his head shoot up. It was you, crouching down in front of him. "Bucky, it's me."

You cried, seeing Bucky have to relive one of the worst nights he had been through. But you had to get him out of there, even if it meant carrying him through the door.

"It's okay," You spoke softly, the sounds of you choking as the Winter Soldier grunted, still pounding through the room like someone had turned the volume up deafeningly.

"You're okay, Buck."

He looked up at you with bloodshot eyes and messy hair. Devastation was written all over his face as his breathing was unsteady, making you scared he was hyperventilating. "Come on," You pulled at his arm, "We gotta go, you're okay."

He let you pull him up as he stumbled on his feet. You held his face, not letting him look at the bed where you were being choked to near death. "Don't look, it's okay." The room started to shake, making both of you tumble into the wall.

Your screams were the only noise you could hear as the Winter Soldier repeated over and over that you were his mission.

"I can't! No!" Bucky slammed his hands over his ears as you tried to pull him toward the door.

Finally, with one more push, you were through the door as you both fell onto the floor as the door slammed shut. Bucky crawled into a fetal position, making you cover his body with yours as he cried.

The group stood around in shock, having warned you about going to find Bucky but you of course hadn't listened.

"It wasn't me, it wasn't me," Bucky repeated like a mantra, making you brush his hair away from his face before kissing his cheek softly, as all you could do was hold him. "I know, Buck...I know."

You had been dodging Bucky's texts and calls for weeks.

After the last mission Bucky came back from, spending the night in your bed. He left the next morning before you woke up.

You felt your heart drop, your hand resting on the empty spot where he laid.

So, you decided you were done being someone he could just come fuck after a tough mission. You knew you were nothing more to him than that, and if ghosting him was the answer, you would do that.

You immersed yourself in work. Staying extra hours in the office and offering to work overtime whenever your boss needed someone. Even though you worked for Shield, your office was across town, thankfully not anywhere near where Bucky could possibly pop by.

Over the past few weeks, you realized you liked Bucky more than just...friends.

All of the nights spent together wrapped in each other's arms. The dinners you cooked for each other. The way you left the door unlocked, just in case he would come by. The way your heart always dropped to your stomach the minute he left.

You hadn't realized until the last time he disappeared, but you were in love with Bucky.

Sipping the last drop of your red wine from the glass, you stood on unsteady legs and walked to the counter where the almost empty bottle was sitting.

Pouring another glass, you heard your phone chirp from the other side of the room. Walking over you picked it up, seeing yet another message from Bucky.

Bucky <3: I'm coming over, since you won't talk to me you can't ignore me in person.

You groaned, sitting your glass down and typing out a response.

You: Don't come over.

You saw a bubble come up as if he was typing, but it soon disappeared. Dropping your phone on the countertop, you looked around your apartment, seeing it was kinda a mess but you weren't in the headspace to pick up, being slightly drunk.

A knock on the door sounded through only a couple of minutes later. You stumbled over, wrapping your cardigan around your shoulders as you unlocked the door.

Bucky stepped in, hearing the lock twist.

"You have a key, Bucky." You went back over to the living room, picking up your glass and taking a longggg drink.

"Are you drunk?" Bucky questioned, picking up the empty bottle of dark wine.

"I'm not sober." You finish the glass and put it down on the coffee table.

"Alright," Bucky scoffs and walks over to you, making you take a step back, "Why are you ignoring me? You've been screening my calls, leaving me on read. What did I do?"

You shake your head, "You didn't do anything?" Bucky bites his bottom lip in confusion, "So what's going on?"

You laugh slightly, not wanting to even say the words out loud. Bucky's brows furrow in further confusion and concern.

He sees you slightly stumble, moving forward and helping you sit down on the couch. "Just sit, doll. Come on."

"I just.." You mumbled, sitting further away from Bucky on the couch. Bucky scooted closer, bringing your hand into his as his metal one rubbed soft circles on your thigh. "Doll, what's going on?"

You looked down at your lap, "I didn't wanna ignore you, Buck."

"Then what's going on? Are we not friends anymore?" "That's the problem." You made eye contact, "We're just friends."

Bucky looked at you, just staring into your eyes. "W-What do you mean?" You tilted your head back, "You know what I mean, Bucky. We've been friends with benefits for what? A year now? We make out, we fuck, we talk. But nothing ever comes from it. You leave in the morning before I even wake up." You paused, "You only call when you want to fuck-" Without warning, Bucky pulled you into his lap, bringing his hands to your face instead of your hips, bringing his lips to yours in a soft kiss. It was different from what it usually was.

There was no intensity to it; there were no wandering hands or forced proximity.

He wanted to kiss you gently and passionately.

Breaking the kiss, you pulled back, looking into his ocean blue eyes. "Buck?" He sighed, "I've wanted to be more than friends for a long time, doll." You bit your bottom lip. "Then what was stopping you?" "Fear. I didn't think you felt the same."

You rolled your eyes, smiling, suddenly feeling a little more sober. "I've always felt the same, Bucky."

"Good," He moved his body so he was spread out on the couch and positioned you to lie on top of him with your head on his chest as he softly played with your hair.

"So what does this mean?" You questioned, looking up at him as you took his dog tags into your hand.

He smiled down at you, softly kissing your forehead, " We're more than friends, doll."
