I really, really fucking hate how this undermines both of their autonomy and treats abuse survivors like fragile little puppies who can’t think for themselves anymore. Obviously, there can be issues with consent when a person is abused and their trauma impacts their ability to understand what’s happening to them or makes them feel they can’t say no BUT there’s no evidence of that being the case with Buckynat and to make a blanket statement like “they’re traumatized therefore they can’t consent to anything” is so belittling and ignorant. It is much more nuanced and complex than that. Survivors are still people, Bucky and Nat were not robots when they got together even if they were treated as such by other people.

There’s a huge difference between Bucky and Nat doing the things they were programmed and abused into doing (what they didn’t consent to) and them actively sneaking behind their handlers/abusers backs to be together (what they did consent to). Bucky and Nat were both victims, neither had significant power over the other. Their ability to consent wasn’t effected by them not remembering their real names or having memory gaps, it was effected the purposeful mind control and force that their abusers used on them. There was no mind control or abuse of power between Bucky and Nat, they were both victims who wanted to be together against their abusers wishes. That was entirely their choice.

Not to mention that most antis act as though their relationship ended in The Red Room, if their relationship truly was so horrible and just because of the abuse or whatever then why are they still coming back to each other? Why do they still love each other even after they remember who they are and are no longer under mind control? Because they really do love each other. These two have such an adorable, healthy relationship, they cuddle and throw each other suprise birthday parties for fucks sake like antis are just looking for reasons to be mad on the internet, Buckynat is pure and healthy. Their love for each other was the one bit of tenderness and autonomy they had through years of unimaginable abuse and you fuckers aren’t taking that away from them just to suit your harmful purity politics.
