WARNINGS: Yandere! Chrollo, female! reader, mentions of nsfw, mentions of murder, mentions of decapitation, manipulation, named character death, 3.8k words
âOh dear god, please turn this car around right now.â Sydney held onto the dashboard for dear life, your haphazard driving through the forest paths making her fear for the worst. She was pale, her knuckles white from gripping the edge of her seat. âLet me out. Let me out right here.â
âWhat?!â You yelled, making a rather dangerous turn, barely missing a tree. The car skidded on the loose gravel, and for a split second, you thought you might lose control. âNo way! Just calm down. Iâll get us out of here. The highway ainât that far off.â
âNo, no, no, you donât understand!â Sydneyâs voice trembled with panic, her eyes wide with fear as they darted between you and the road ahead. âThat- That man is insane! Heâll kill us both!â
âI donât care!â The grip you had on the wheel was tight, your fingers hurting with the excess force you exerted. Your heart pounded in your chest, a mix of adrenaline and determination fueling your escape. âI- You donât understand how long Iâve searched for you. I got everything planned out, the tickets ready to get out of here.â
âI donât want to die!â Sydney yelled back, her voice breaking. As you glanced at her, you tried to imagine what sheâd been through to warrant such words. Her eyes were haunted, shadows of past traumas flickering in their depths. What had she been through? What kind of horrors had she been forced to live through to make her terrified of leaving that hut? âHe isnât human. Heâs killed a lot of people. I donât want- I canât have another person dying on me. Please bring me back.â
A short, humorless laugh shot from your throat, visibly shocking Sydney. It was a bitter sound, filled with a mix of disbelief and frustration. âBring you back?â you echoed, shaking your head. âAfter everything I went through to find you, you want to go back to that hellhole?â
Sydneyâs eyes filled with tears, her lower lip trembling. âYou donât understand,â she whispered, her voice barely audible over the roar of the engine. âYouâre putting us both in more danger. Heâll come after us. Heâll never stop.â
You took a deep breath, trying to steady your nerves. âI do understand,â you said softly, your grip on the wheel loosening slightly. âBut we canât live in fear forever. We have to try to escape, to find a way out of this nightmare. Trust me, Sydney. I wonât let anything happen to you.â
âBut-â
âIâm a hunter, donât think Iâll go down so easily.â You stated confidently, hoping to transfer some of that readiness to do whatever was necessary over to your passenger. âWeâve got to try. If things go really bad, just tell him I forced you in the car.â
âYou might be okay with that-â Her lips started wobbling. âbut Iâm not! How did you even find me?â
âI was hired by your father to find you. And I never leave any stones unturned.â The look you received from Sydney wouldâve stroked your ego if you werenât still drifting through forest roads, the gravel loud in the background. âIâll tell you when we get to the motel I arranged. Iâve booked two rooms in literally six places, and weâll go to one I didnât make reservations for.â
âI canât believe it...â Sydney suddenly said, her head leaning against the dashboard. From the corner of your eye you could see she was crying. âBut Iâm so happy to see another person.â
âIâm happy to see you as well.â You said, placing a firm hand on her shoulder for a mere moment before focusing back on driving, finally reaching the main road heading to the highway. âRest for now, a little at least. We have a long journey ahead.â
âI wonât be able to go back home.â Sydney remarked. âHe probably knows where I live. The police also wonât be able to do a lot...â
âDonât go spiraling on me.â You sternly said, looking in the rear view window to check whether anyone was following. The road was empty. âWeâll figure out a way. I have a lot of connections to law enforcement, so witness protection is definitely a possibility. There are more intense variants available for hunters, so I could arrange something like that.â
âIntense?â
âDisappearing. So much so that even I wouldnât be able to find you.âÂ
âOh...â
Your phone rang, startling you slightly as you navigated the treacherous forest path. You glanced at your passenger, whose anxiety was palpable.
âCould you grab my phone? Itâs in the glove department,â you asked, keeping your voice steady despite the urgency of the situation.
She grabbed the phone wordlessly, her fingers trembling as she placed the small device in your extended hand. You opened the call and placed the phone against your ear, bracing yourself for the conversation. The voice of the boss was an unwelcome noise.
âEverything going according to plan?â
You nearly sneered. Did he need to shout? What if Sydney heard his voice and recognized it? Youâd be in for a much less pleasant ride. You cast a quick glance at her, noting her tense posture and wide, fearful eyes. âAffirmative. The girl has been rescued, taking her to the airport.â You feigned a look at your watch, as if you needed the time. âWeâll make the flight, if barely.â
It was quiet for a while, the silence only broken by the rhythmic thump of the tires against the uneven ground. Then, a soft chuckle could be heard through the receiver. âAh. Youâre playing.â You didnât agree with the term, but decided not to mention it, focusing instead on the road ahead. âGlad youâre having fun. Call me if anything changes. Oh, and Uvogin might want to have a word with you.â
That tactless brute was sloppy with anything but time, and held everyone to his strict standard, though usually it was just an excuse for banter. Considering you were two hours behind schedule, you doubted that would be the case this time. You sighed deeply, your frustration mounting. âGoinâ as fast as I can.â
âI like the new accent,â the boss added, his tone dripping with amusement.
And with that, he hung up, leaving you with the lingering tension of the call. You tossed the phone onto the passenger seat. Sydney looked at you, her eyes filled with questions she was too afraid to ask. You gave her a reassuring smile, hoping that would placate her for the time being. Even if sheâd heard anything, she didnât give any indication of it, and she didnât seem like the type to be able to hold a very good poker face.
âWho was that?â She finally asked, having deliberated on the question for too long for your liking. âAnd I thought we were going to a motel, not an airport.â
âPfft. You think Iâd go up against the Phantom Troupe by myself?â Internally you just wanted her to drop the subject already. You were good at making up bullshit on the spot, but if sheâd try to find holes in your reasoning, you were sure thereâd be plenty. Ungrateful, to be saved by someone and then spend the entire car ride questioning their motives. âWeâre meeting up with an ally of mine at the airport, there weâre taking a short flight to Knover. Itâs already been arranged that we can walk right through security. From there we go to a motel. A plan hasnât been made yet, from that point on, since we didnât know what the situation would be right now. So far itâs been the best possible outcome, since we arenât being noticeably chased and my ally has confirmed that the airport is also still a safe bet.âÂ
â...Okay.â She nodded. âIâm sorry, but I have to ask. You said you were hired by my father, right?â
âHm? Yes?âÂ
âWhat is his name?â
Dear god. Would this woman ever stop?
âYour name is Syndey Callaghan, and heâs Patrick Callaghan.â
She remained silent, took a deep breath and looked out of the window.Â
Good enough. Even if she was suspicious and would try to run when she thought the time was right, there wouldnât be a right time. The car wouldnât stop until their destination and you would rather eat glass than face the troupe after failing a fucking civilian escort mission. You had more pride than that.Â
The rest of the trip the two of you spoke every now and then, you initiating most of the conversations out of boredom and Sydney responding as minimally as she could.Â
The road began to smooth out, the dense trees giving way to the outskirts of the city. You could see the faint glow of streetlights in the distance, a sign that you were nearing the rendezvous point. Sydneyâs tension seemed to ease slightly as the environment became more familiar, but her eyes remained wary, darting to the rearview mirror and back to the passing scenery.
âAlmost there,â you muttered, more to yourself than to her. She didnât respond, her gaze fixed firmly on the horizon.
Apparently, knowing her father's name had cleared you of all suspicion, though you only realized this when you drove up into the parking lot where Chrollo, Uvogin, Feitan, Machi, and Shizuku were waiting. The area was dimly lit, the cold glow of streetlights casting long shadows that seemed to stretch endlessly in the night. Sydney recognized Chrollo and immediately grew white as a ghost, looking at you with so much betrayal you wouldâve felt bad had she meant anything to you at all.
Good thing she didnât.
You had barely stopped the car before Sydney shot out of the car, crying loudly while making a break for it. She took two steps before Shizuku knocked her out with a hit to the neck. You stepped out slowly and held out a hand to the other Spiders, calling out an amenable, âHey.â
Uvogin didnât appreciate your nonchalance, clearly, as he seemed ready to burst a vein. âDonât just âheyâ us. Youâre three hours late! We couldâve been done already, for fuckâs sake.â
âTraffic was dreadful,â you lied, deciding not to mention the two wrong turns youâd made when youâd gotten distracted talking to Sydney about her time at the shack. âBe happy I made it at all.â
He took a step forward, holding up his fist. âYouââ
âDrop it, Uvo,â Machi berated. âWe have to move quickly, donât we? Don't fight right now.â
âYeah, Uvo.â You agreed with a teasing smile on your face. âWe have to be quick.â
âBitch.â
âDonât start.â You got a sharp look from Machi and Feitan both. With a small sigh, Machi looked at Chrollo, who to your surprise, was wearing a full on suit instead of his usual get-up. You tilted your head when you noticed his tattoo was also fully covered up, but you decided that he didnât look bad dressed up. It suited him. âSo? Are we good to go?â
Chrollo had been sifting through pages of his Banditâs Secret, though he shut the book when he was addressed. He looked over all the members for a mere moment before he nodded. âYes. The gala has already begun, but the girlâs parents arenât there yet, so the delay doesnât matter. Feitan and Shizuku, you two will take the girl and take her to the mansion. Her eyes should still work for scans, and itâd be best to keep her alive since there might be more biomedical tests, but if she proves too much of a liability, kill her. The main bodyguards, the hunters, will be handled by Uvo and Machi. They will undoubtedly be with the Callaghans today, but since security in the mansion is already bothersome, it will be important to not let them go back and reach the mansion before Feitan and Shizuku are done.â
You didnât read the memo more than you needed to, so this was all new info, but you didnât really care. You usually only found out what was being stolen when it was all done, though you could vaguely recall that this theft was of a disc with encrypted info relating to political targets, one that could be sold for quite a sum.
As Feitan and Shizuku lifted Sydney's limp body into a nearby van, you caught the faint smell of gasoline and wondered if theyâd doused the entire vehicle in it. Ahh⌠that sounded fun. You leaned against the car, watching them work, your thoughts drifting to the evening ahead, though you didnât know yet what your role would be this time.
Uvogin's frustration was still simmering. "Just don't screw up again," he growled.
You flashed him a confident grin. "Wouldn't dream of it, Uvo."
Chrollo's calm voice cut through the night air. "Let's move. The girlâs cry probably drew some people."
Feitan gave you a scathing glare. âWhy didnât you just knock out.â
âConversation.â You shrugged. âI find long car rides boring, so might as well have someone to talk to.â
Feitan scoffed, the very notion probably outrageous to him. To wish to hear people speak about mundane things? âStupid.â
âFair enough.â
With the plan set in motion, the group quickly dispersed. You and Chrollo slipped into a sleek, unassuming sedan parked nearby, its tinted windows concealing your identities. As you navigated through the city's labyrinthine streets, you realized youâd still not really been told where the two of you were going, or even what the plan was for you and Chrollo.. The cityscape began to transform from the industrial outskirts to the opulent heart of the metropolis. Neon signs and skyscrapers gave way to grand, historic buildings adorned with intricate architecture.
Chrollo had insisted on driving, and you quickly found out why, an entire outfit ready for you in the backseat. With all the clumsiness associated with changing outfits in a backseat, you got dressed, remarking multiple times that it was rather difficult to get dressed into a full gown while seated. The boss merely chuckled and threw you a few boxes filled with jewels when youâd finally finished changing into the formal wear.Â
The car came to a halt outside a lavishly decorated venue, its entrance flanked by uniformed doormen and valets attending to an array of luxury vehicles. You adjusted your attire, transforming from the rough-edged thief to the charming socialite you knew you could play.
âHow did the trip go?â He asked you after heâd given away the car to the valet, the people at the entrance barely looking at the two of you as you entered. In the back of your mind, you wondered why there were no visible checks, but decided you didnât care enough to ask Chrollo whether or not heâd managed to get an invite.Â
âSplendid, splendid.â You smiled coquettishly to a man in an expensive suit walking past, resisting the urge to pocket the rolex on his wrist when he nearly bumped into you. âYou left quite the impression.â
Chrollo laughed shortly. âI am sure. Hopefully it didnât bother you?â
âWhy would it?â
He gave you a look you had trouble interpreting, one that seemed like heâd been expecting more of a reaction. What kind, you couldnât tell.Â
âSo, what now?â You asked, looking around the room with an inviting smile on your face. Itâd been a while since youâd been in such company, but copying the rest felt easy. âYouâve yet to tell me what our purpose here is.â
âNothing too grand, I assure you.â He held out a hand in your direction. âLetâs dance.â
The grand chandelier above cast a warm, golden glow over the opulent ballroom, its light reflecting off the polished marble floors. The air was filled with the soft strains of a waltz, played by a live orchestra, their music weaving through the conversations and laughter of elegantly dressed guests. The laughs and conversations audible underneath the thrum of the music screamed of wealth, mentions of business deals, vacation houses and complaints regarding the hors d'oeuvres.
You found yourself in the center of it all, dancing with Chrollo, internally wondering when heâd abscond to do whatever he was here to do. His hand rested firmly on your waist, guiding you gracefully across the floor, while your hand lay gently in his, fingers intertwined. The two of you moved in perfect harmony, following his movements childsâ play with how talented the man was at guiding, a silent conversation expressed through each step and turn.
âAre you certain her words didnât bother you?â He repeated his earlier question. âIâd hate for your opinion of me to change.â
âBoss.â You didnât use his name, but his title, trying to be as direct as possible. The fabric of your gown rustled softly as you moved, the silk gliding against your skin. âAre you asking me if I was jealous of a kidnapped girl? One whoâs probably decapitated, if Feitan gets his way?â
He twirled you effortlessly, his eyes never leaving yours. âThat does sound rather silly, doesnât it?â
You met his gaze, trying to read the emotions behind his calm exterior. âYouâre not saying no.â
âAnd neither are you.â His voice was smooth, almost teasing. Another couple dancing behind you was less graceful, and you felt the lace of another dress flutter against your skin for a moment. Silently your eyes moved across the room, but you couldnât see the Callaghanâs. While the man would be able to blend in, the bleached blonde wife should be easier to spot.
âWell then let me be the one to break this impasse.â You swirled around him, your gown flaring out, the movement normally ending in a thrust of your palm, but now only gracefully falling into his hands again. It felt odd using such moves outside of combat, but it was a fun experience. âNo, I am not jealous.â
Chrolloâs smile was subtle, a mere hint at the corners of his lips. The music swelled, and he pulled you closer, the dance becoming more intimate. The scent of his cologne mingled with the faint aroma of roses from the floral arrangements scattered around the room. You could feel the strength in his arms, the control in his every movement, as purposeful as a tropic bird dancing for a suitor.
âDoes that disappoint you?â
âA bit.â
âWell, then let me be crude for a little bit.â Changing up the pace, you stepped forward and leaned close, pausing the dance to whisper secretively in his ear. âIf youâre that desperate to repeat the song and dance from the last heist, you need only ask. Iâm not classy enough to oppose getting fucked in a hotel bathroom.â
Chrollo pecked your cheek before tempting you back into the dance. âYou have no appreciation for the subtle parts of seduction.â
The edges of your lips lifted. âOh, donât go shy on me now.âÂ
The final notes of the waltz lingered in the air as the dance came to a close. Chrollo dipped you low, his face inches from yours, and you smiled mischievously at the stereotypical ending. The applause of the audience accompanied your ascent. Chrollo clapped politely, and as you followed suit, you wondered if truly the entire reason for this ball had been to proposition you again. Surely not, since that would mean the two of you werenât even participating in the job, but something felt off about him this evening.Â
For now, the dance was over, and the next move was yours.
âWell boss, I donât see the Callaghanâs.â He led you off the dance floor as you spoke, and handed you a flute of champagne. âAre you going to tell me what weâre doing here?âÂ
His eyes twinkled, and you were unsure whether it was because he was enjoying keeping you out of the loop, or whether you were being foolish by not already seeing the plan in motion. âConsidering they got word two hours ago that their daughter has died, I think theyâve already gone home and met their end.â
You laughed. âOh? So weâre here just to dance?â
âI already had the invites, and this job didnât need us.â He shrugged and took a sip of champagne. âIs that so bad?â
While wearing the same charmed smile, you deliberated over it. Youâd come all this way for a job, had been ready to be thrown into the chaos of battle, and now all that excitement felt rather silly. Initially youâd assumed you were just here to make sure the Callaghanâs didnât leave for their mansion, though you now realized theyâd probably already been underway when youâd arrived at the parking lot. Just for a dance or two, then. Just for a hook-up in a hotel after a drink too many.
âThis seems unlike you,â you wondered, not sure how else to word it without being disrespectful. Youâd been around enough of his plans to know he was immaculate, clever in a way few were, so for this entire evening to simmer down in what you considered to be rather mundane felt like it simply couldnât be true.Â
âCanât I simply wish to spend another night with you?â He said, setting down his glass and motioning for you to do the same, inviting you to another dance.âI am rather fond of this.â
For a second you tensed, the sight of him nauseating you deeply. The way heâd spoken, the vulnerability in his voice, was unsettling.
No, you were just imagining things.
Despite how you and the troupe idolized him, saw him as more than just the boss, truly at the end of the day he was a man. And a man could get pent up, long for something he shouldnât be begging for. The summer heat would get to anyoneâs head at some point, even his. A weak moment, you reckoned, one that could be allowed.
Just this time.
As you danced, you noticed the way his hands rested on your waist, a subtle possessiveness in his touch. The music swirled around you, a haunting melody that matched the strange tension between you. You tried to relax, to let the rhythm of the dance take over, but the intensity of his gaze made it difficult.
The chandeliers above cast a soft glow, illuminating the elegant surroundings. Other couples danced around you, oblivious to the undercurrents of your conversation. His eyes never left yours, and you could see a flicker of somethingâdesperation, perhaps?âin their depths.
You took a deep breath, trying to shake off the unease. âYouâre full of surprises tonight,â you said, your tone deceivingly light.
âIs that a bad thing?â
And as you looked at him, at Chrollo, you couldnât decide whether the shake of your head was a lie or not.

tw blood, violence, implied minor character death, non-con, smut, nsfw
Thereâs blood splattered across the back of his hands the first time you make the unwitting mistake of catching Kyoutaniâs attention. He usually canât be fucked wasting time wrapping his fists; the skin across one of his knuckles is split and raw from his last job, but most of the blood isnât his.
And the other guy got off far, far worse.
But he wouldnât have noticed â it comes with the territory and heâs never really given a fuck whether thereâs blood on his clothes or not â if it hadnât been for that tiny gasp.
That soft, sharp little intake of breath, and like the rabid dog they claim he is, he snaps to the threat.
Nobody else at the table notices, and you seem to realise your mistake, freezing up the moment those honey brown eyes flash and zero in on you. Your throat bobs unsteadily â you look like a deer caught in headlights. Startled. Terrified.Â
Hot cocoa is a staple when cooler weather starts setting in.Â
By your reckoning, it could find a place on every tier of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. A warm, decadent cup with wisps of steam rising from the swirling surface. This mouthwatering mental image is what led you to the kitchenette. Dutifully following the packageâs instructions, you rip into the chocolatey package by the serrated edge and get to work.Â
All the while, a pair of inquisitive eyes track your every movement. You canât imagine why the sight of you in fluffy pajamas pulling milk from the fridge has Chrolloâs rapt attention. Heâs leaning against the counter, sipping on his own concoction. Earl gray tea, if the scent is of any indication.Â
Your masterpiece is almost complete. Now, for the finishing touch â marshmallows.Â
Alas. Youâve encountered a problem. The marshmallows are stored in a cabinet that evades your reach. To make matters worse, Chrollo has perched himself right where youâd need to climb up. Should you list clairvoyance among his many capabilities? Logically, you know that feat eludes him, but your suspicions remain.
âIs something the matter, dear?âÂ
Ah, you forgot that youâve been silently squinting at him while the gears in your head spin. Round and round they go, never producing a viable solution.Â
âNo, not at all,â you dismiss. His gaze never leaves yours, even as he takes another sip of his drink. You can see it in his eyes, that âoh, really?â look. You donât appreciate that look, for you receive it often, thanks to your shenanigans.Â
âYour drinkâs getting cold,â he points out.Â
Very astute of him.Â
The way you see it, this can go a few ways. One, you could ask for his help in procuring your garnish. You could, but⌠he regards you with such bemusement, finding pleasure in every little thing you do. Youâre tired of the court jester role. Asking him for something almost always guarantees that youâll be putting on a metaphorical cap and bells.Â
So you cling to your pride. You stand close enough for your shoulder to brush against his, as your target necessitates such sacrifice. Straining while on your tiptoes, your fingertips brush against the damnable cabinet handle, gold and mocking. Vigilant as your efforts are, theyâre ultimately fruitless. Your prize remains just out of reach.
Huffing, you turn to face Chrollo, who has no right to look as innocent as he does.Â
âCould youâŚâ you trail off and shoo him with your hands. You hope that gets the message across.Â
âCan I ask why? I feel perfectly content here.âÂ
Of course he does.Â
Youâre unsure what spurs on your next action. Pettiness? Irritation? Righteous anger? Who knows. You rest both your palms flat against his bicep and push, as if he were nothing more than an inconvenient obstacle, which, in truth, is a fitting description. He doesnât so much as budge. The full weight of your body and strength combined amounts to nothing. You canât comprehend how hard his muscles feel beneath his shirt, itâs like youâre touching a wall.Â
Although itâs quiet, you hear it. A breathy chuckle escapes his lips.Â
Your equilibrium is thrown into chaos as you go from your nice, secure spot on the floor to being lifted high. Two large hands settle right above your hips, holding you in place. Your reflexes kick in and you squirm. Fortunately, Chrolloâs grasp doesnât falter. You realize what heâs getting at and make quick work of opening the cabinet and getting your stupid marshmallows. He brings you down. You only relax when your soles touch solid ground.Â
Chrollo gives your hips a playful squeeze.Â
âTry again,â he whispers near your ear.
You want nothing more than to scamper off, but his body envelops you, cutting off any escape. Youâre caught between a rock and a hard place, clutching a bag of marshmallows, your Hello Kitty slippers askew.
You sigh.
Life certainly has its challenges.Â
Should you start with elbowing him or stomping down on his feetâŚ?Â
âI barely tolerate you as a human, you want me to tolerate you as a literal pesk?â
You jaw drops as Sukuna continues to play his game, thumbs tapping expertly on the controller as the violence breaks out on screen. Heâs propped on his pillows while youâre curled into his side, the heat from his body sticky and warm as you use his chest as a pillow to thumb through your phone.
Only slightly hurt now that heâs mentioned he wouldnât like you still.
âI bet yuuji would still like me,â you grumble.
âTo be frank, I donât really care what yuuji does.â
If he didnât want you to see the way his jaw ticked at the mention of his brother, he did a poor job of it.
You notice it. And of course, you smirk as you sit up to prod him more.
âI bet heâd pick me up in a little leaf, carry me home and put me in a little tank,â you begin. âI bet heâd hand feed me fruit to my little mouth and make me such a happy worm.â
âWell then why donât you go fuckinâ date yuuji then?â He snarls, motioning at the door. âSince heâd just love you so much.â
âI donât want to date yuuji,â you pout back. âI want to date you. I love you. Even if you donât love me-â
âFor fucks sake-â he pauses his game and, before you can ask, he flips you onto your back, straddling you and gripping your shoulders. He shakes you, and you squeal as he does.
âYes, Iâd still like you. Yes, Iâd build you a stupid little cage. Yes Iâd charge people to come look at you. Yes Iâd feed you fruit, and yes Iâd pet you every day. Yes. Yes. A million times yes, fucking let me play in peace.â With each few words, he pulls your shoulders up before slamming them back down into the bed, the springs bouncing you back into his hands.
ââKuna!â You giggle, your arms bending at the elbow to make minimal distance between you and your man, and despite the annoyance he wishes to convey, thereâs a cheesy smile on his face, brows furrowed in focus and chest heaving from his speech and the act of bouncing you so intensely. He stops with a sigh, sitting up straight and smoothing his hair back.
âYouâre such a fuckinâ nuisance,â he insults.
You smile and sit up to meet his face, cupping it in your hands to guide him into a kiss. He scoffs before ultimately leaning down to comply.
âIm your nuisance,â you mewl, giggling against his lips.
