The last piece of ham on the plate.

Soaked in sog and meat water.

Small, not enough for a meal.

It sits and waits patiently to be eaten.

Growing excited as hands reach out to touch it’s surface.

But they never land.

It drowns in it’s own sweat and is discarded with the corpses of corn on the cobs and leftover mashed potatoes.

It is discarded with the undesirables, the losers, the forgotten few of the dinner table.

It has been wasted, and no one seems to care.
