As much as I adored all of Key’s murderous displays of devotion towards Rae, what really sent me into an emotional tailspin was when Rae, after listening to Key talk about his father, immediately stripped out of her expensive dress and sold it so he could have the wealth necessary to protect his father’s grave. That was a top-tier, swoon-worthy display of love and I don’t blame Key for completely devoting himself to Rae in that moment.

The thing I love about Long Live Evil is that the main character is a jock who likes to be mean to people who hurt her sister and then she spent four years sick in the hospital so when she gets sent to the fantasy universe her favorite books take place in she 1) establishes herself as a villain because finally she’s in a body that can kick ass again instead of feeling helpless and 2) starts treating everyone there with the same lack of regard as to their being Real People as she’s been on the receiving end of for the entire time she’s been sick. Like truly a balm for my soul and my own personal issues regarding like. Niceness and lack thereof in the face of repeated dehumanization.
