“i mean… i hid everything under my bed. not just porn, i had like snacks and shit i stole from my sisters under there, so no judgement for what you put under yours.”

“you sound like a fighter.” cora admitted, the smile on her lips growing the ever wider. “i believe in you - now i want you to throw a punch, i want to see where you aim on the bag - and more so how your fists land.” she admitted, nodding her head at the thought as she moved off to the side.

alice had a small flashback to the wizarding war and the torture that she went through - a small shudder went through her body and she hoped cora didn’t notice. “you’d be surprised,” she whispered, fixing her stance before looking back up at the other girl. she took a deep breath, aiming for the bag and punching it.

“Not sure I would.” Angel watched her for a moment, he tapped the table with his rings just in habit. “I pull of the brooding thing well enough. I don’t need to add sunglasses on top of it.” Though if he was going to be able to be in the sun he ought to invest in a pair for when he was outside. “No that’s alright. It’ll pass.” He wasn’t sure pain medication would work on him. Normally he just needed time. “Angel.” He nodded in greeting. 

“If you’re sure - just let me know if you change your mind on those aspirin.” being this straightforward and making friends didn’t necessarily come hard to alice. she had always been open minded to new people and had this desire to welcome people into the communities that she was involved in. “have you been in dc long, angel?”

“ natalie!” pushing past a group of people, jean sought out who she assumed was her friend, just finally falling into step with the other. “did you understand an-oh, shit, you’re not natalie.” it was one of those surprises, though she didn’t mind it entirely. 

“Just a headache.” Angel watched the woman slide into the seat across from him. He would get used to it, maybe. He hoped he would at least. “Now I am trying to blend in so wearing sunglasses inside would just make me stand out even more.” He chuckled just a little bit. “But yes it is a light sensitivity thing. I’ll be fine. Just tend to work in the dark. So getting a day time job has changed the amount of sun I get.”

“i think you’d be surprised.” alice chuckled softly, taking a drink of her coffee as she eyed him. “you could probably pull off the whole mysterious brooding sunglasses wearing enigma but yeah, it would probably make you stand out more instead of blend in so scrape the glasses idea. i have aspirin in my bag if you want some. i’m alice, by the way.”

Anne applied the lipstick using the camera of her phone, noticing someone was staring mid-application, “I know, fabulous colour, isn’t it? Some might say it’s bold to wear a bright red dress and bright red lipstick but I disagree. I think it’s the perfect choice,” she explained and then glanced up, smiling, “Or did you need something else?”

Though Angel had the ring with the gem that made him able to go out into the sun and not turn to ash he was not used to it. The ring also made him pretty invincible which was another benefit but he would still rather be careful then become dependent on this ring. Not used to the sun and had a massive headache from the brightness of the light. “I am so ready for it do be dark again.” A little chuckle left him as he sat in cafe with his coffee in front of him. He was sure that he’d get used to it, it would just take some time. “Can I help you?” He looked up as someone approached him and the table. 

“Oh, sorry, you just looked a little out of it - I was going to see if everything was okay.” alice shifted on her feet, slightly regretting bothering the man before her. she slid into the seat across from him, not waiting to be invited like she usually would. “i know it would seem weird to some people but you could always wear sunglasses inside - light sensitivity is a thing.” 

“ no particular reason. just figured you should know, you know?” frank wasn’t one to dole out compliments, though he figured if anyone deserved to know, then alice should be it. 

“i made you something.”

“ooh, is this a good somethin? i love presents.”

“you inspire me to do better.” 

“yeah?” alice couldn’t help but smile. the idea that someone took time out of their day to make something for her specifically showed a lot of care and that gave her butterflies. “is this a happy playlist? a sad one? oooooooh, maybe a workout playlist - i could use that motivation.”

“i can respect the determination in your voice.” cora admitted, a wide grin spreading across her lips. “and i think you’ve gained some respect from me - i like a person who doesn’t apologise and wants to do better.” she nodded at the thought before she corrected her stance and raised her fists. “this time you should try watching your stance whilst you fight - remember to bend like a tree in the wind.”

“eh, i’ll gladly take it. if i’m going to lose, i might as well go down fighting. there’s a time to give up and today is not it.” she listened to her advice, grateful for it as a newbie to all of this. she corrected her stance, nodding at cora’s words. ‘bend like a tree in the wind - good advice. let’s see if i can take it and make it work.”

"when was the last time I said I love you because I feel like I am overdue?" alice looked over at marlene, her eyes shining in happiness at her words. she didn’t know what marlene was referencing but she’d always take the compliment with gratefulness.
