hey i finally made an interest tracker

     "     ---     𝐨𝐡 .     "     on the upside , the target was quite literally downed . the downside was he’d had to use this guy’s car to smack it clear out of the sky , a makeshift swatter . there was a joke in there somewhere .     “     i can , uh .     “     heugh spares a glance towards the vehicle , lain pathetically atop the mission success looking far between it’s better days . it’d be fair to guess totaled was an understatement . something under the crumpled hood sparks . that’s probably not good .     “     ---     i’ll buy you a new one ?     “ 

it’s  over,  done,  but  he  can’t  seem  to  shake  it.   it  lingers  on  the  outskirts  of  his  mind  even  when  he’s  engulfed  elsewhere,   and  he  should  chalk  it  up  to  bad  intel.  it  happens,  people  fuck  up  in  the  twists  and  turns  of  it  all ;   but  that  reasoning  does  little  for  mind  viably  obsessed  with  the  situation.  saying  it  could  have  been  bad  was  an  understatement,  leaning  into  the  idea  that  a  medical  retirement  from  a  team  member  was  better  than  a  loss  all  together  felt  lazy  at  best.   they  were  expensive,   after  all.  eyes  don’t  life  from  the  map  of  cityscape   -   he  does,  however,  pause  in  the  chewing  of  the  tip  of  his  thumb.     “   i’m  always  up.   ”     it’s  said  with  a  breathy  sort  of  laugh,   but  it’s  far  from  a  joke.   sleep  is  evasive  and  cruel  more  often  than  not.     “   i’ll  turn  in  after  i  figure  this  out.   ”     as  if  that’s  a  plausible  sort  of  outcome.

     𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐧𝐞'𝐬 𝐨𝐰𝐧 . he gets it . heugh can’t decide for himself if that serves to help the hunch that’s weighed rick down to that chair and bent him haggard over a blueprint that just won’t give up the ghost , or to help him crucify himself on it’s flimsy rumple , lain across heugh’s dining room table . he lets the pregnant pause have it’s day between them , taking in a moment to let his black eyes sweep over the one dimensional lay of the land as though if maybe he pinches his gaze just enough even he might be able to find the one way things could have been different . he gets it .
