“… Or maybe we could just find a way to grow them, you know? Not sure if I’m willing to risk having another afternoon like the one we just had. Or paper flowers. We got the craft store, right? We can make paper flowers next time,” just the idea of less pleasant alternatives again had Santiago already looking for safer options. Not that having his secrets out here was a huge problem, half of these people don’t even talk to him that much and the other half will probably not talk to him once they are back to their lives (or he hopes they are) - but the pain and everything he heard? Better not have a redo of that. But thank God Blaine was still talking, because soon Santiago was laughing and the thought of being stuck here being tortured went away. “Alright. We’re definitely finding ourselves a coconut then. We can even place bets. Who’s gonna get married first, who’s gonna get divorced. You know, all that stuff people care about when they are neighbors and they gossip a lot,” he shrugged, giving Blaine a smile. Soon they were at the beach, and Santiago also took his shoes off the moment they were stepping on sand. He held the pair with his free hand, and took a few steps forward, looking back to watch Blaine with the same smile as before, using the back of his hand to adjust his glasses. “Never?” he said, sounding a bit more surprise than intended at first. “Oh. Right. New York. You East coast people,” he made a face, showing him the tongue and spoke in a teasing tone. “My family loves the beach. We’d go all the time. You know… San Diego so,” he shrugged, moving the bag to his other hand, reaching for Blaine’s with the one he had just freed. “It’s been a while since I’ve been though. Was a bit busy with work and all of that, and waking up earlier just to go isn’t as nice as it sounds,” he added with a soft laugh, looking for a place they could sit and rest.
Blaine actually laughed at that, shaking his head as he imagined just what that would look like. The people getting married having to go to that thrift store to get their clothes, the wedding party all in non-matching outfits, someone maybe having to wear one of those tuxedo shirts that are literally just regular t-shirts with the tuxedo print on the front. “Hopefully someone’s good at ventriloquism... because the coconut would need to give the partners vows to recite,” He said, thinking it over for a moment before letting out a soft huff at himself. The pain in being an actor and theater kid was a very vivid imagination, he could recognize he had that problem. He watched Santiago adjust his glasses as he rolled the bottoms of his pants legs up to avoid getting sand all over them before moving to stand next to the other man. “Hey, I mean... to be fair, there are beaches elsewhere along the coastline. But I bet they don’t hold a candle to West Coast beaches,” He said, winking up at Santiago before turning to look at the water for a moment, taking a deep breath in of the salty air before letting it out as a content sigh. When he felt the hand slide into his own, he glanced down and smiled to himself as he gave Santiago’s hand a gentle squeeze, then followed him out onto the beach. “It’s true though. Pretty view or not, it’s incredibly annoying to have to get up early. I say, as a person who does that on a daily basis. Yoga, jogging... stuff like that,” He chuckled, glancing around for a moment before walking up into the dunes, where two rocks stuck out from the sand. “What about here?”

“Oh, I made some cookies and some cake,” Santiago had his eyes on the bag for a moment, as if trying to remember which cookies and cake he had just packed, so he also noticed Blaine grabbing the handle and locking one of his fingers with one of his own. He smiled at it, looking up and smiling even more when he noticed the pink on Blaine’s cheeks. He likes seeing Blaine like this - happy, comfortable, enjoying himself. Especially after everything he heard from him, the bad memories and stuff the other has gone through. Santiago likes to think Blaine deserves to be this happy. If only he could give him this somewhere else. Santiago checked Blaine’s outfit when he mentioned it, finally eyeing him from head to toe and then, to be funny, gave him a thumbs up. “I think you look great. But then again, you always do. So it’s hard for me to tell. Maybe a little greater than usual…” he smiled, teasing him just enough. He let Blaine lead the way to the beach, it wouldn’t take long for them to get there anyway. “I mean… Me too. I also feel like they’d give us the flower shop instead of a boat. How do we even ask for stuff? Like, do we just yell?” Santiago frowned, letting himself laugh. “Or maybe whisper loud enough inside our places? Who knows,” he made a face, looking around and then back at Blaine. “I say we did a pretty good job picking our first stop. And our fist date. You’re right, it’s pretty romantic. Wait until you see, and not only smell, what I got going on here,” he smiled, pointing at the bag.
Blaine hadn't been expecting a thumbs up, so when he saw the other man exhibit the gesture, he couldn't help but laugh and raise his eyebrows. "Well, thank you! I can't say I've ever been given a thumbs up before, but I guess there's a first time for everything. Cute. But, thank you, Santi. That's very sweet of you. Seriously," he grinned, turning his attention down to the ground as they walked. "I think we might need to just come outside and yell really loud. Or, hell, maybe even yelling indoors would work, you know? We just need to be real annoying about it and hope they choose to get us to shut up by giving us what we ask for instead of... less pleasant alternatives," he said, wrinkling his nose up a little at the thought before shaking his head. "I agree. We definitely did. Watching the sunset on a remote, probably uncharted Island. Now all we need to do is find a coconut and name him Wilson, right? He could be the officiant for any future island weddings, since it would seem we're all trapped here for years to come," he chirped thoughtfully, then shook his head at himself as they headed down the street. It was a little surreal how normal this felt now, how much they'd all adapted to being kidnapped and finding comfort in the situations they were in. But he just supposed that was a human fight or flight response. "I can't wait to see and taste what you made, Santi. I'm sure it's going to be awesome, and I can't wait to try and top it next time." He winked over at the other man, then made his way down one of the wooden sets of stairs that led onto the beach. On the last step, he toed his shoes off, then stepped out of them and onto the sand. He breathed in as much of the salty air as he could, which was notably different than New York's ocean air in many different aspects, but the most prominent being the lack of hot dog carts and pollution. "Damn, I... haven't actually been to a real beach before. The closest you can get in New York is like... a bench overlooking the water on a cement sidewalk."

Santiago’s mind was everywhere. He had promised to take care of the food for their first date at the beach, and might as well have set himself up for failure. He spent all his free time leading up to this trying recipes he got from recipe books from the book store, a few sweets, maybe some sandwiches. His fridge was full with his failures and a few thinks that didn’t look presentable. By the time he heard the knock, he was done packing some cookies, some slices of cake and some chocolate covered fruit skewers. Spending time with Blaine not only had kept him sane in this god-forsaken isle, but had also been fun. Santiago isn’t the one to just spend time with people, focusing mostly on his work, but opening himself up wasn’t difficult. It didn’t feel like it when Blaine was around, at least. The nights they spend together, all the movie marathons and the fact that it felt good. All of those added up to some feelings, to affection. He adjusted his glasses as he made his way to the door, checking his clothes to make sure he didn’t have food in any of them. The food and everything else they would need was inside some containers, in the bag he was carrying. As soon as Santiago opened the door he felt himself relaxing, opening a huge smile to greet Blaine and stepping closer to give him a hug. “Hey, B! Food is all here. Ready to go? I’m pretty sure this is going to be super nice,” he said as he moved back from the hug, closing the door behind him.
When the door opened, Blaine couldn’t help but be reminded just how lucky he was that someone this handsome had asked him out on a date. He pulled himself from that thought when he felt Santiago’s arms encompass him, and he instantly hugged back with a big grin on his face. Santi’s arms had quickly become a safe place for him, and just the shortest hug was enough to calm down the worst panic attack. When the hug was broken, his gaze followed the other man as he closed the door. “Hey! Santi, whatever that is smells awesome. What is it that you made?” He asked, moving to grab the other half of the handle to help carry the bag, though he not to subtly locked one of his fingers with Santiago’s. He avoided eye contact, his cheeks tinted pink as he glanced toward the sidewalk. “Yeah, I’m ready. Maybe too ready. Not ashamed to admit the fact that I’ve spent the last several days deciding on an outfit, because tonight needed to be perfect” He said, letting out a breathy chuckle as he walked down the steps alongside the other man, slipping his free hand down into his pocket. “I’m more than pretty sure. I might be out of practice in the dating game, but I like spending time with you, and what’s more romantic than a picnic on the beach, right? Just wish I could have brought you some flowers or something. We should find a way to tell them we need a florist out here. And maybe a boat, but... I feel like we’d be more likely to get the flower shop, honestly.”

Blaine takes a deep breath as he makes his way down the sidewalk, watching the numbers ascend on the houses as he tucks his hands into his pockets to shelter them from the cool air. It had been eerily quiet since the box tortures happened, so he was thankful to have Santiago to not only fill his time with but to fill the silence with. It helped that he’d had some level of attraction to the other man since the day they met so asking him over only ever felt natural, but that had grown into full-fledged affection and infatuation as they spent more and more time together. His nerves got more unsettled as he finally stopped in front of house 109, and he takes a quick moment to look himself over for what had to be the thousandth time that day to ensure he looked presentable enough for a first date. When he was satisfied with how he appeared, he made his way up the steps and to the door, knocking a few times before taking a step back.

Mhmmm... It was a very good night, and you’re right... it felt good having my favorite cuddle buddy with me again. Especially when it’s a great reminder of how adorable he is without his glasses. Breakfast would be awesome, yeah. We can make it together? I have this really good recipe for lemon blueberry pancakes, unless you’re in the mood for something else. But I also wouldn’t be opposed to a few more minutes of cuddling, so I’ll leave that decision up to you.
