I have a very strict line about not engaging in selective outrage but everything else is relative.
While this is my fandom space, aspects of intersectionality will always matter to me. Being able to have important and serious conversations about racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, or whatever else might need addressed is required for the space to be ever be safe. I refuse to treat these topics as if they are taboo in the fandom space.
Helluverse is pumping blood through my veins, and I like pretty much everything about both shows. I like requests because my purpose is to draw more and improve.
You can just ask me to draw or write (short drabble) anything in my ask box and I will probably do it. I love a task!
I will make anything from fanart, character analysis, gifs, edits, etc. or anything else that sounds fun. I love being given tasks. I have the temperament of the microsoft paperclip. I used this pinned as a quick link page for things so help yourself it if it useful.
You can call me Briar / any pronouns.

There is only 9 hours left of this book and I'm going i n s a n e. I never want this world to end but waiting for the resolution of the significant conflict that began a book ago is so tense it is going to send me to hell before I get the chance to finish the book.

Now that Iβm so RadioHusk and RadioJoyed up, Iβm going to be chewing on that βthe pangolins have landed!β βWhat?β βThe vees are distracted!β βThen just say that? Fuck!β scene for the foreseeable future. Putting those three in a box and shaking it hard hard hard.
Haunted Hotel with a S1 type emptiness. Husk the bartender up late at night. Alastor the facility manager, addressing the bumps in the night. Emily the ghostβ¦ Itβs coming to me.
Watching The Haunted Mansion '03 (mid-way through rn) bc I used to rinse tf out of this movie as a toddler, and I want vibe inspo, and it's just reminding me how prolific family films about fathers needing to be less capitalist and more active in their family's (namely their children's) lives were in the 2000s. It's actually extremely fascinating to me.
Also, the concepts in it have so much potential, but the script and execution are as bad as they say. Could've easily been a black southern gothic piece, exploring inheritance/heritage and entitlement as themes. It's also already set in Louisiana (shown on the no. plate in the movie, a reference to the original ride being in a park area based on NOLA), and they had a brown-dark skinned new-money black family with a workaholic father, working as a team with a light skinned (Creole resembling...) wife that the white ghost owner of the house wanted to get rid of, and the resolution is that the white ghost needs to let go of his privileges, entitlement and move on so that the dead can rest, and the black family of present day can enjoy their weekend getaway of bonding and pleasure...It's all in there.
The fact that the light skinned black/mixed wife being a doppelganger of this old white ghost's wife isn't even a race blind thing, like... such a pairing has historical precedent for the setting they chose, and he outright states that they were not allowed to be together because of their backgrounds, though race is totally danced around. And I believe there is no black representation on the ride so like... They knew EXACTLY what they were working with!
General audiences can be so over-sensitive about racial topics, and storytelling genuinely suffers because of it. I suspect that's why the script sucks so bad; without getting into all that, there is no fucking story. It's just random shit happening for no reason.
Also the kids should've been older. I don't think whoever wrote this movie knew what to do with them because they're so young, but like... exactly. If the southern gothic element was played up, their perspective as black youths, having had softer racist experiences and more privileges than and because of their elders/parents' generation giving everything to make sure they have a better life (represented through the workaholic father), like there would've been so much to say! Especially with the daughter being immediately sympathetic to the trapped ghosts, and the father wanting to "fuck everyone else and get his (ass out of there lol)".
And if it wasn't a Disney family film, and it was just straight up a southern gothic, then the two house workers the daughters wants to help should've been black. Then it becomes about solidarity, and how we can honour the memory of our ancestor's plight today, to understand how we got where we got, and continuing to deconstruct white supremacy is exactly the way to let the dead rest in actual peace.
...But... you know, that's not what the movie is. The dad is a workaholic because man, the mother is a dead-ringer for the ghost's wife because coincidence, the daughter is sassy because stereotypes, and the son is scared of spiders because child. Shame, shame, shame. It's so crazy because this really could've been like black people's version of Pirates of the Caribbean. They had everything they needed to make an amazing story.
I doubt the 2023 version did anything like this, but I'll check it out. I do love the general vibe lol.
And since wanting to write a Hazbin fic spurred this on, yes, I feel exactly the same way about Alastor.
I feel like IWTV proved that black southern gothic is a winning way to reframe a story with such themes. It can give a story so much more gravity, as well as knocking it out the park on the representation front. I think that's kind of why I wasn't a big fan of S2 and S3 of IWTV as much as S1, because in S2 they're like "oh, it's Paris, racism isn't really a big deal here in the 50s" (side eyes in present day European still experiencing racism...) and iirc, it's written largely in such a way. Then S3, since it's about Lestat, and Louis appears in present day, I didn't finish the season, but the race element is basically absent.
It seems that the concern of the writers is with the original Vampire Chronicles text at this point, which was not concerned with blackness, but in S1 of AMC's IWTV, race was tethered to the story and the period + setting chosen to reimagine the story in. It was black southern gothic from back to front, race commentary was made by the characters on screen, and in a meta sense by the narrative. It was so core to the story unfolding in front of my eyes, and that's why I personally loved and appreciated it.

I am going to draw demon Alastor with his human hairstyle and in his '26 Valentine's fit "and there's nothing anyone CAN DO ABOUT IT! AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!"
As I'm trying to merge the demon and human hairstyle into one, I really have to wonder just how humanoid Alastor is actually meant to be. He has a nose, which I think gives the audience the impression that he just... he's just a dude with a shitty haircut. But then what are we meant to be thinking happened to his hair if he's that humanoid? I feel like the egg bois asking about the difference between his hair and ears lmfao.
Anyway, this comes back to the pissing on our leg and telling us its raining thing about him being black that I was talking about in that ask about rep, since there's also the subject of his French in comparison to the Hispanic characters... Human and demon Alastor are basically different characters... but yk... anyway...
since they had him gesture to his hair in his human intro shot, have velvette poke fun at his dead trim, and then have velvette complain about getting her hair ruined before mirroring his human sins, they can save this if they tell us Alastor's hair is a Thingβ’ for him.
I have my doubts that it will happen, since I can't really imagine us getting Alastor agonising about his human past, or complaining that much about his loss of humanity when he's hanging out with cats, goats, bugs, TV heads, and etc.
But if they want me to put the gun down, they should mention it!
