Images from this weekend's double-bill "Eleventh Night" celebrations in Belfast with bonfires being lit by Loyalists on the 11th and 12th of July as the big marching date of the Twelfth was deferred a day due to falling on a Sunday.
The two bonfires pictured here are Ravenhill's bonfire, which is local to me, and The Village's bonfire which was the tallest in Belfast this year. NI Fire Service sprayed houses to try and prevent fires being started by stray embers and limit other damage caused by the heat of the pyres. Two houses were burnt down by the bonfire in Greenisland, Carrickfergus this year and one 40 year old bonfire builder, Warren Lyttle, fell from the bonfire in Braniel Estate and subsequently died from his injuries. Another man has been left severely injured by a fall from the Village bonfire during its construction.
