Instead, I finally put up the blackout curtains in my bedroom.

Do I talk to my mom every night or do our dogs talk to each other every night? It’s anyone’s guess.

Me: Nice… will that get me a permanent position?

Boss: Definitely helps.

I was half joking and half serious… but my boss gets it. I’ve been on contract for 13 months now, and will likely be on contract for another 3 (until the end of our fiscal year). We’re all incredibly frustrated because while we our small team is valued and praised, we have nothing to show for it. Our manager agrees that it’s bullshit and fights for us all the time, but we’re in a season of a tight budget and that makes it hard for him to do much.

This is why the job market is so fucking awful right now. Because jobs like this make it impossible to stay put. I like my job. It’s challenging at times, but I’m good at it, and my teammates and most of our coworkers are great.

But I need better insurance than my hiring agency offers. I need PTO. I need real recognition that I don’t get because I’m “just” a contractor, which means i won’t get annual raises. And I abso-fucking-lutely deserve more.

They “talk” to each other and get cookies while we chat. It’s silly and ridiculous and I love it.

I should have taken before and after pics but I didn’t think of it… the lawn was a disaster. It’s definitely not as hard as it might have been before self propelled mowers but I live in Florida now so… 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵

I also raked 4+ bags worth of leaves while I waited for my mower to recharge (it’s a big battery but the lawn was really out of control) and absolutely need to work on my cardio because OOF my heart rate was way too high.

I still have so much more to do but I had work and I had already overdone it, so the rest (leaf blowing, edging, and tackling the backyard) will have to wait until Sunday.

I have all those things, but they look different than it did for the Boomers who told us it should look like their lives.

I’m going to be okay… I have chosen family (and my parents), and I will find a community here in Florida. But it won’t look the same as it did when I was a kid.

That’s a good thing though, because now I know what type of community I really need. I know what toxic people look like and how to avoid them. I know how to protect my peace.

Instead of providing advice, he went on to Lowe’s and placed an order for a leaf blower, edger, and lawn mower for me to pickup. I’ll be paying it back, of course, but at least the decision making process was easy.

I mean, I knew this might be the outcome but I really was just calling for advice. There were too many choices!!

I’ve still got a ton of bs in the left front corner from my landlord that I want to figure out a way store without feeling like it’s a pile of garbage…

Mom: You need to get rid of them.

Me: Challenge accepted.

Callie is usually the one comforting Piper, but tonight Piper laid down first and Callie decided she would make a nice pillow. 🥹

Callie is absolutely exhausted from feeling sick, not having much energy from food, and the crazy vet visit today. 💔

She’s on the mend though, and while pancreatitis can be scary, it’s very treatable. She got an anti-nausea shot and some antibiotics for the diarrhea. She finally ate and kept down some food tonight so she’ll get some of her energy back.

I ordered special Rx food for her too… low fat to prevent more episodes… I hope she likes it because she’s picky af and that shit’s expensive.
