      whine caught between teeth is morose ,   the use of the word  ‘ again ‘    sends a   twinge   of pain across his chest which he promptly sweeps it under the hug ,   face contorted into a  pained  expression .

         ❝ yeah! we’re already here, bout to go in. ❞ it’s past 9, and they are standing outside of her friends and her favourite haunt, her beau at her flank, also texting one person or the other while she absent-mindedly rubs his arm with her free hand, attention elsewhere. they seem early, no camera in sight — yet. ❝ okay don’t be too long, love you! ❞ she tucks the phone away into her purse, hand sliding into her companion’s arm. 

      ❝ that damien? ❞ his arm circles her waist, almost possessively. she doesn’t appear to notice.

      ❝ yeah, the boys are running late, something about a vintage — thing, i don’t know, i stopped listening the moment he said ‘but it’s the best thing ever’ , ❞ classic violet merchant eye roll.  ❝ they’ll catch up, c’mon,  ❞ and they stride further up toward the entrance.  ( @bravc )

                 ❛    DID I PROMISE    that ?      ❜     he taunts ,     poor facade of fabricated sincerity cracked at the edges  ,   impish nature unfurls with each nudging   &    probing of hers ,    bursts like sunshine with a light-hearted laugh from the back of his throat ,    hands loosely splayed across torso pull petite frame closer to offer support  .   ❛    yeah ,     'course i remember   ----  i’m not a  total  airhead .      ❜

           cue roll of misty blue-eyes ,    ringlets of gold pool at his shoulder blade as a hand presses to his now   fully-functional    chest ,   mind you .    all pipes are unclogged   &   heart’s pumping as though it hasn’t spent eternity in a dusty coffin .   ❛    not    total   ,   no .      ❜    retort is met with a  half-narrowed  gaze of mild resentment   &    soothed with chaste pressing of lips against rugged jaw .

       Absently chewing, ( it’s gum, mind his street cred ) his neck tilts some, cracking one way, then the other running rough fingertips over reddened knuckles; vacant stare pulls toward the bars when the unmistakable clang beats forth.  Recognition only elicits a mirthless half laugh.  ❝ What I wouldn’t give to waste my left fist on you right now. ❞

he’s almost absent from that place altogether, thumb smoothing over bruised KNUCKLES, filled with a little MISPLACED satisfaction, that which made the pain tingling on his flesh completely worth it. a sigh, heavy, almost serene. his stare is CALM, unwavering at the words. ❛ I know. ❜ no disagreement, he’s not about to deny the damage his recklessness & selfishness caused.
