There were plenty of children orphaned during the events of the Omnic Crisis, and the Branwen Twins were no different. Originally from America, Qrow and his sister Raven lost both their parents at young due to the fighting, leaving them with only each other.
Originally placed in a group home with other orphaned children, the two of them refused to stay there for long, choosing to run away at the first chance and take their chances on the streets rather then deal with the questionable conditions of the orphanage. For a while the two of them survived by stealing and begging, however everything changed for the twins when they attempted to pick the pocket of a man they'd later learn belonged to the organization Talon.
Even once they were adults, it remained a mystery to the twins why the man decided to take them in, but he did and the two of them were inducted into Talon. For the next several years of their lives the twins were trained to be fighters and assassins, and by the time they were teens they had completed several missions.
Everything began to change after the twins turned 17, the two of them were assigned a long term undercover mission to infiltrate Overwatch as new recruits. What should have been an easy mission became difficult as the two of them found themselves unintentionally befriending fellow recruits Taiyang Xiao Long and Summer Rose.
As time flew by the twins, especially Qrow, found themselves softening and being changed by their lifestyle. Eventually Raven started a relationship with Taiyang, one that resulted in the two having a daughter. Unfortunately things weren't to last, and the time frame given to the twins for their mission came to an end, meaning it was time to return to Talon.
Despite having a lover and new born daughter, Raven was more then willing to return as, while she had been softened somewhat by their time in Overwatch, she still believed strongly in Talon's beliefs and felt indebted to them for taking her and her brother in.
Qrow on the other hand, had no desire to return to Talon. Growing up in organization he'd believed in what he'd been taught, but since coming to Overwatch he'd come to the realization that Talon was wrong. He would not go back there.
Both siblings were hurt by the other's decision and argued about it, but in the end neither could convince the other to change their mind. All they could do was come to an agreement; Qrow wouldn't stop Raven from leaving and Raven wouldn't stop Qrow from staying. With the agreement made, Raven returned to Talon, leaving behind a rift in the bond between her Qrow.
The next four years were a precarious time for both the twins, despite having brought back a wealth of information on Overwatch's inner workings; the heads of Talon were suspicious of Raven for letting Qrow stay behind, while Qrow struggled to regain the trust of Overwatch after coming clean about him and Raven.
Through hard work and dedication however, both twins were able to earn back their leaders approval and rise through the ranks of their organizations. Raven found herself sent on more and more high security missions, often as an information gather or brute force; she was always careful to avoid missions where she knew she was likely to run into Qrow however, despite her anger at him he was still her brother and she would rather not kill him.
When they did meet however, they always clashed; not quite so violently as to kill each other, but enough to look like it and always with real anger boiling beneath the surface.
