People of the ri-kor, Part three: Pilgrims Young and Old
1. Looking out at Lhasa city and the way she came up, the mother rests as her teenage daughter secures prayer flags to the mountain.
2. A Lhasa woman pauses to wait for her friends. Many women chose to wear their traditional Tibetan dresses such as this one for the eight-hour pilgrimage hike.
3. A young man carries a large bunch of prayer flags over his shoulder, ready to hang around Takten Hermitage which can be seen in the background.
4. A man and his son wait for the rest of their family to descend a particularly slippery part of the trail.
5. A mother and daughter that we kept meeting throughout the day smile tiredly after making it to the top of the ridge. The little girl started the day by running non-stop, so she did well to make it up here several hours later.
6. A family tries to shout out to friends on another part of the mountain about which route to take to get down. Often the real trail can get confused in amongst yak trails, and losing your way can be easily done.
7. At the final stop of the day, Phurbujok Monastery, some new friends of ours from the trail sit in a makeshift tea garden for a refreshing cup of sweet tea.
8. A lovely older couple from Kham, Eastern Tibet, look out at the valley and Pabongkha Monastery: the first stop of the day where they were several hours earlier.
