More Than Just Linen
When I needed a line of heavy white porcelain cookware for the shop I turned to Pillivuyt. Â I have been using it at home for years and love it's heft and simple silhouettes.Â
This great ribbed bowl reminds me of one my mother brought over in her trunk from Italy in 1954.Â
With so many open kitchens, Pillivuyt is the perfect cookware.  It goes from freezer to oven to table beautifully.  Itâs also microwave and dishwasher safe.

A Shopping Favorite!!
Rural Intelligence has featured Boxwood Linen as a favorite artisan shop in our area...Columbia County, the Berkshires and beyond! Â Thank you so much for bringing attention to my little shop and all of these other great stores, throughout the year. Read about it in this article. Â I'm very excited about 2014!! Â Hope to see you all soon...
Cheese & Wine
If there is a time of year that's perfect for cheese and wine it's now! Â Invite some friends, light a fire and pour some wine. Â
Each one of Jay Rohrlich's cheeseboards are unique. Like fossils they are naturally marked with history as some show evidence of healed cracks in the wood.
This board is cut from ash and is the perfect size for 3 cheeses, which is what I typically put out for a small group. Â Green Multi-stripe Linens shown here.
Jay's signature is burned into the wood...see it peaking out from under the parchment paper?

How to Set a Table!
Here are just a few simple rulesâŚ
1) Your plate or charger should be approximately 1â away from the edge of the table
2) For cutlery work your way inward from the outer most pieces as each course is served.
3) Forks go to the left of your plate
4) Knives and spoons go to the rightâŚknife blade always turned in (not facing your neighbor)
5) Dessert spoons and forks can go either next to the plate (last in) or at the very top of your place setting as shown
6) Napkins can sit on a dinner plate or charger or should be placed to the left of your plate with the fold always closest to the plate. You can get creative with folding napkins but I like simple folds the best.
7) Water glass goes above the knife tip and wine glasses go to the right of that. If you have more than one wine to serve just form a diamond or triangle shape with the glasses, after the water glass is placed correctly.
8) Bread and butter plate goes above and to the left of the forks. The butter knife can be placed diagonally, vertically or horizontally. Just remember to use the hostâs serving butter knife to dab a pat of butter on your bread plate, then use your own individual butter knife to spread it.
Shown here is a casual setting perfect for Thanksgiving in the country.
This setting is a little more formal and shows that more than one course will be served. Soup spoon is first as soup is served firstâŚappetizer knife and fork are next, then the dinner knife and fork. Note here how the napkin is placed. This suits a diagonally monogrammed napkin as it seems to represent a family crest or shield.
This is a simple but festive setting for a New Yearâs Day brunch. Get creative with place cards and the layering of linens. Here the napkin is simply folded and sits on the left side as it should. Coffee cups would normally be brought out after a meal but here it is set decoratively on top of the plate.
All the linens shown are available at Boxwood Linen and the vintage dishes and glasses are available at HGS. Have fun with your holiday tabletops this year !
All the best from Boxwood Linen !!
