             ‘that’s how the game works. if there’s no rules or restrictions to make it difficult, than it would just be all out chaos.’ that and she couldn’t help but be a little afraid of what would happen if she happened to let down her father.

your friends, who are still close, are super uncomfortable and kinda grossed out

           a scoff emerged from celia’s lips despite her being well aware it was probably impolite to do so. out of habit, her hand moved over to the ringlike scar around her finger, an ugly reminder of the rules. ‘then i guess it’s good i don’t seek the approval of a stranger. i’d likely be out of business.’

“Prospero the Enchanter’s immediate reaction upon meeting his daughter is a simple declaration of: “Well, fuck.”

             ‘restrictions make it fun. or so i’m told.’ truthfully, she could care less about whether she fully applied herself or not, but the rules were set by her father and not herself. ‘it’s just smoke and mirrors, don’t take it too seriously.’

“But you built me dreams instead.”

            ‘unfortunately, you aren’t considered a real magician unless you have a rabbit in tow. however, i’m not very fond of them.’ she shrugged her shoulders, reaching for the cloth she usually used to cover it. ‘birds are... much better in my opinion.’

“I am haunted by the ghost of my father, I think that should allow me to quote Hamlet as much as I please.”

Ladies of Literature is finished funding! Thanks so much everyone! I chose Celia Bowen from the Night Circus, by Erin Morgenstern. Wanted to capture her sophisticated/classiness and the creepy presence of the specter of her father.
