Key to the Phoenix Heart Ep 1-2 thoughts
I have been in Hou Minghao phase since watching Love in the Clouds so this is the first time I believe we are all seeing him as a seemingly ruthless character from the start.
From the beginning I love the way this drama shows the characters actions which portrays their personality. Xiao Wuyi is angered by Prince Changsha's actions leading to the death of his soldiers, and he expresses that during the poem appreciation thingy. No regrets of his actions despite knowing the possible implications. He seems detached from what a normal heir of a prince experiences and even looks down on how sheltered some people are. Fair, considering what he has seen in war. My interest is in his distrust towards others. Why is that the case, and he seems to only be himself in front of his physician, Rui Sheng.
Then there is Xie Jiayu. She's so cute imo. She has such a endearing cheekiness to her and all her actions, from scaring a lord away from marrying her, attempting to save strangers is so fresh to see in a female lead. Of all people she should be the one of the most sheltered that Wuyi has seen but even he finds her interesting. Her naive attitude towards others contrasts with him, but her maturity and attentiveness she shows to her craft (i think) does surprise him.
I am very interested to see how this drama goes, though it seems very fast paced in the first 2 episodes. I was struggling to keep up with who is related to who and the many princes and princesses. But tbf it is only 28 episodes (whyyy I would love to see more of them). I really enjoyed seeing such dimensional characters right off the bat.
I still can't believe Wuyi's name directly translates to no clothes. (无 means no or absent of and 衣 means clothes)
