1. Ilya Rozanov's least favourite subject in school was Science.
I'm going to say that Ilya's least favorite subject was Russian history. Since Russia was freshly out being the Soviet Union while he was in school, propaganda still existed in their school system. He'd seen the corruption within his own family and found himself frustrated by praise of their government.
2. Ilya Rozanov wakes up on November 1st and starts decorating for Christmas.
I think he used to be bitter (or at the very least, neutral) about Christmas due to his family dynamics and his mother's death. After he left Russia for hockey, he wouldn't even go back to the country for the holidays. It's not until he's with Shane that Ilya begins to enjoy Christmas again. He really loves spending time with Shane and his family.
I'm not sure if he'd be up for decorating first thing during November, but I can see him growing more excited as the holidays get closer.
3. Ilya Rozanov is smart but also very stupid.
I mean... I see no lie here. He can be very smart with certain subjects in school and with hockey. He's great at improvising and thinking on his feet (hence how he's able to chirp so well at other players). He's also extremely observant of other people and can notice things much faster than the average person.
However, he can be a dumbass because he used to take extreme risks; consequences be damned. He can be very impulsive, which can get him in trouble. Sometimes his ignorance of certain subjects can lead to him seemng "stupid" to some people, but he is very inquisitive if the topic interests him.
4. Ilya Rozanov has chronic nightmares.
I'd say he did get nightmares a lot after his mother died, but they became worse as his depression worsened. I think it takes getting treatment and counseling for his nightmares to calm down.
5. Ilya Rozanov sucks at saying tongue twisters.
I could see him being good with Russian tongue twisters, but English ones? He would struggle with those. lol
6. Ilya Rozanov tells dad jokes.
I think he would initially call out dad jokes that he sees fellow players make; namely Hayden. But after he has kids of his own, he would likely start having his own brand of "dad jokes."
7. Ilya Rozanov hates being alone.
Hard agree. Especially when his depression gets worse. Ilya is more likely to have a breakdown when he's alone rather than when he's around someone he trusts. Whenever Shane has to leave for Montreal, he often spirals by himself. Even before Shane, I think that part of his reasoning for hook ups was to prevent himself from getting lost in his own head. Hook ups gave him both distractions and company.
However, I do think that after he starts his medication and therapy, he gets a lot better with coping with lonliness.
8. Ilya Rozanov is very good at using chopsticks.
I actually think he struggled with this at first. He didn't eat much Asian food while growing up in Russia. He only started eating Asian cuisine after he moved to the United States/Canada. He got proficient at using chopsticks after a lot of practice.
9. Ilya Rozanov is great with kids.
Well, this isn't even a headcanon. This is just straight up canon. We know he's great with kids from the books. I mean, the guy helps run a children's summer camp. He works with kids all the time.
Though, I do think that even with this strength of his, he would still initially be anxious about being a father. Since he didn't really grow up with a great father figure, he would be worried about becoming like Grigory.
10. Ilya Rozanov is awful with technology and doesn't know how to use a smart phone.
I don't agree with this. He's proficient enough with technology. He's not knowledgeable like a software engineer, but he doesn't need to be. He grew up with technology for a good chunk of his life.
Bonus: Ilya Rozanov is a top.
I mean, this is canon too. He doesn't really have much interest in being a bottom. If he's with Shane for the rest of his life, the only way he might try bottoming is if Shane showed an interest in experimenting. Otherwise, he's happy with their current dynamic.
Though, if Ilya was with someone else who DOES have a history of topping (like, say, Scott Hunter or anyone else who switches), I could see him being curious about it after he grows to trust them. It's not something he would want from just anyone.

He can't quite count the number of times that he's heard those words in some variation. Or rather, maybe he can. It was at least ten times. And usually they were followed by a coach calling him into their office and explaining that as valued as he was, they were going to trade him to a different team. And as pathetic as the knee-jerk reaction is, Ryan can't help but wonder if somehow, he can be traded from the Foundation.
Which is ridiculous, because they're not even at the rink or the camps. And Roz would never. Ryan's brow furrows as he nods for Ilya to take the seat across from him. It'll be at least another hour or so before Fabian is ready to go home. Even after his set, he mingles and spends time with some of the fans.
"You look serious," He comments, hating that the realization has a bit of uneasiness churning through his gut. Rozy isn't one to beat around the bush, but he also isn't one to be generally serious unless it's a serious matter. And for him, that usually means hockey or Hollander.
Ryan watches the Russian settle into the other side of the booth and he sits a bit straighter, his brain working overtime trying to guess what this could be about. "Everything okay with Hollander? Or uh, the club?"
Ilya could already tell that Price was growing anxious. It was a subtle shift, so he knew he had to tread carefully through this conversation.
"Everything is okay," he assured the retired player with a nod. "I was able to recruit Hunter to join our camp for next year." He bit back an amused smile at that. "Could not believe he agreed to it." It was unheard of for Hunter to willingly spend more of his free time with Ilya Rozanov.
"But I am not here for any of this," he replied, deciding to drop the pretense. "I've been thinking about what you told me about your retirement."
At some point in recent memory, Price had opened up to him about his near drug addiction and anxiety issues with having to constantly play enforcer. Both of these issues made Price miserable and made him give up the sport.
Well... that was the case until recently, when Ilya had been able to recruit him to join his and Shane's charity camp. There, he'd noticed the former defenseman light up again around the children. He could tell that Price still enjoyed hockey and was damn good at it.
"I think you were treated unfairly. I was not sure if you would join my charity camp, but I am glad you did." He smiled, surprisingly softly as he continued. "You are still very good at hockey even if you don't think as much about yourself."
"I think you deserved better retirement than what you got. I want to give this to you."
There. He said it. Now he had to wait for Price to react.
It's embarrassing how a simple look from Scott Hunter makes him blush. Kip feels heat rising below his collar, eyes dragging away from the Admirals captain. He has to be careful, otherwise someone might notice that he's paying particular attention to Scott's section of the room.
He can't help it, though - He looks incredible. Handsome and charming, lighting up the whole room with his smile. Ugh - He has to shake his head to get all those cheesy thoughts out. Moving away from Scott, he decides it might be best to circulate elsewhere. Definitely better for his blush, anyway - He needs time to cool down.
"Hi there -" Kip gives his best smile. Then it registers who he's standing in front of. Holy shit, that's Ilya Rozanov. His dad's going to freak out when he hears about this. "Uh - Sorry -" He realises he's staring. "Mini quiche?" The tray is thrust forward. "They're good. I'd avoid the salmon mousse, though, the texture's really weird." Probably shouldn't be dissing the food. "I mean, you might like it. I just found it a bit strange." Shut up, Kip.
Ilya gave Kip a nod of acknowledgement when he was greeted. When the quiche was offered, he grabbed one from the tray. He wasn't really hungry, but he figured he would take one since it was offered to him.
He couldn't help but bark out a small laugh when the other man was bluntly honest about the salmon mousse. "Noted," he commented.
"This is good charity event," he added. Then, unable to help himself, he decided to prod a bit. "Hunter did good with this." He wanted to see how Kip would react to hearing the Admiral captain's name. "Maybe I will make donation of my own."
He idly wondered if Hunter would notice him talking to the mysterious caterer. What would his rival think of this?
Now, he was extremely glad that he came to this event. This was highly entertaining.

Svetlana had been friends with Ilya for a very long time, as long as she could remember her first memory. He had been the only male presence in her life who didn’t sexualise her and make her feel like she was just a piece of meat. Sure their friendship had developed into something sexual, but it had been consensual on both sides and it was their way of exploring their bodies without feeling nervous or uncomfortable.
She had been there for the whole deterioration of Ilya’s dad’s health. She had seen him becoming more forgetful and old and that had broken her heart for Ilya. She knew he was a cruel man. She had arrived back at the condo before Ilya and had turned on a couple of lights, changing into one of his T-shirts and a pair of her sweatpants. She got them both some water and placed the glasses on the table in front of her. When she heard the door open, she moved to walk over to Ilya slowly, brushing some of the snow out of his hair. “Come get warm. I’ve got some water for us. I didn’t know if you wanted something stronger.”
The light smell of cigarette smoke wafted from Ilya's coat. While he had been trying to quit the bad habit, there were nights like this one that warrented it. He felt like he would break if he didn't smoke at least once.
Instinctively, he leaned into Svetlana's gentle touch before finally removing his coat and shoes. The warmth of the heater was extremely welcome. He had stupidly forgotten to put on his gloves, and his hands were bitterly cold.
He gave a brittle smirk at her remark. "<I wouldn't mind it, but it's probably not a good idea.>" He knew that he would likely abuse whatever alcohol he got his hands on at the moment. He glanced over at the couch and suddenly got an idea. "<There are extra blankets in the coat closet. We could use one.>"
He was glad that he wasn't speaking in English right now. He didn't think he was capable of it for the rest of the night.

Ilya felt like a powder keg about to explode. Ever since he came back to Russia for the Olympics, it had been nonstop stress. His family was constantly on his heels, asking for money or lecturing him for every little thing he apparently did wrong.
The team he was picked to lead was a disaster. Ilya knew from the first practice that they needed months of it to be in peak shape. Unfortunately, they weren't granted this luxury, so he needed to work with what he was given.
It didn't help that Shane fucking Hollander was here and trying to contact him. He ignored the texts. It was too dangerous to see him here. But God, did he want to.
His head felt foggy, heavy. It was hard to focus on winning when the weight of an entire country sat on his shoulders. Russia expected gold. His family expected gold. Everyone expected gold.
By the time he made it back to his apartment, he felt wound tight enough to snap. He needed an outlet before he took it out on a bottle of vodka.
Luckily for him, Svetlana had been keeping him company. More than anyone else, she understood the frustration he felt.
He removed his coat and shoes with noted urgency before stepping onto the carpeted floor. He immediately went to seek her out.
Ilya found her in the living room and called out her name. "Sveta." He approached the couch but didn't take a seat next to her. He furrowed his eyebrows, now suddenly finding it hard to voice what he wanted from her. "<I need...>" he trailed off in Russian. He sounded strained, wrung out. "<Thinking is too hard right now. I don't want to think anymore.>"

"Fuck -" Troy hisses through his teeth, trying to keep some semblance of composure as he watches his father walk away. Another lecture. More reasons why he's not good enough. He'd even suggested that maybe it's time for Troy to retire. Retire? That's what his own father thinks of him?
Hand comes up to rub over the front of his face, taking a few steadying breaths. He hates that his dad still has this impact on him. That he can't just let it wash over him and forget about it. This is the happiest he's ever been, playing for the Centaurs, and yet he still feels like a failure.
He turns to head back towards the changing rooms to grab his bag, eyes immediately meeting with Ilya's gaze. "Shit - Sorry." He clears his throat, awkwardness bubbling now that he knows his captain saw the exchange. "Dad wasn't happy with my performance tonight."
Ilya had just managed to change back into his suit when he overheard the exchange. He poked his head out into the hallway just in time to see Troy's asshole father lecturing him about a fumbled pass. He bit back a frown, feeling his stomach twist into knots.
It reminded him all too much of his father's lectures towards him. Any slight mistake and Grigori Rozanov would remind him that he was letting down his family and country. Nothing Ilya did was ever good enough, even with all of his accolades and success.
Fortunately, the exchange didn't last too long. If it had continued, he would have stepped in to break it up himself.
When Troy returned back to the locker room, Ilya stood by the doorway and waited for his right-wing to notice him. "Do not apologize," he said sternly. "Yes, you fumbled pass, but you also gave me assists."
Sure, they still lost the game, but it wasn't entirely on Troy's shoulders. Ilya had to take much of the blame because he was their captain. "Was not just you. Other team had stronger defense tonight."
"Do not listen to him." He was referring to Troy's father. "He is too hard on you."
Normally, he wouldn't encourage drinking, but he had a feeling that Troy would benefit from some company right now. If they were on the road, he wouldn't suggest it at all, but they were at home tonight. They had tomorrow off.
"Want to get drink somewhere?" He snorted. "You look like you need one. We can go to bar at the hotel."

The softness of the moment soothes Shane, causing a gentle smile to form on his lips. He never thought that they'd reach this moment. Where they could start telling people and start to build a life together. It's surreal. And sometimes if he thinks too much about it, he panics. But then all it takes is Ilya squeezing his hand to ground him back down again.
"I know. I trust the people we told." Shane's free hand lifts to play with the string on his hoodie, twisting it around his finger. "And it does feel like a relief to have people on our side."
"I just get caught up in my head." He leans into Ilya, resting his head on his shoulder as he takes another sip of his milk. Shane wrinkles his nose. "I had a nightmare that you broke up with me because you decided I wasn't worth it." He can't bring himself to look at Ilya. "Are you sure that I'm what you want? Are you sure you want to go through this with me?"
Ilya nodded. "It is a relief," he agreed softly. He reached for his mug to take another sip from his milk before adjusting himself to have a more secure hold around Shane's waist.
Though, once his boyfriend had finally explained the nightmare he had, Ilya felt his stomach drop like a brick. Instinctively, he tightened his hold around Shane's waist.
"Shane," he said firmly, his voice burning with conviction. He noticed his partner looking away from him and used his other hand to gently guide the other captain's face to turn towards his. "Listen to me."
"I would not have joined Centaurs and moved to Ottawa if I was not serious about you. I already made this choice for us." More softly, he added, "You did not pressure me to do this. I did it because I want this to work. Because I love you."
"Is not always easy," he admitted. "My new team needs work, but seeing you more makes this worth it."
Shane leans back, abandoning his drink as Ilya approaches, heart suddenly lodged in his throat, pounding away. He can practically see the thoughts behind those turquoise eyes, stalking him like a predator ready to pounce - and he loves it. Thrives on it.
If Shane knew Ilya thought this was all spontaneity, he’d probably chuckle. In reality, he had been plotting this little scheme for days, waiting for the right moment, the right timing, the perfect setup.
Finally, the day had come. After a morning of careful preparation…Shane’s tongue darts out to wet his lips, as a flickering display of what he wants.
"Told you I was doing a workout, remember?" he hums, voice low, teasing, trying—and failing—to hide the amusement curling at the edges. He had done some kinda work out for sure, had done something for his body even if not your typical cardio.
He leans just slightly closer, letting the weight of his eyes and posture speak. Playful, mischievous, aware of the effect, and fully enjoying every second of watching Ilya process it.
It took a moment for it to click in Ilya's head. Shane had mentioned needing to do cardio that morning. This must've been what he meant. Slowly, an excited grin spread across his face.
He leaned in further, his eyes watching his husband like he wanted to devour him. "Well, it sounds like you want another workout from me~" he cooed before teasingly brushing their lips together. "This is effective trick, Hollander..."
Finally, he leaned in the rest of the way, kissing Shane as if his life depended on it. His hands found their way to his husband's hips before quickly sliding under the armorwear muscle shirt. He wasted no time, licking into Shane's mouth with a low groan.
If there was one thing that was Shane's luck? It was his damn flight from Boston back to Montreal being canceled due to the damn heat wave. But if he had to be honest? That wasn't what was the most nerve-wracking... not even the suffocating humidity of the East Coast heat... it was the fact he was here, in Ilya Rozanov's fucking house.
What the fuck was he thinking, taking Ilya up on the offer of staying until the next prospective flight to Montreal in a couple of days? Jesus... he really could be an idiot when he chose to be.
Though right now, he was more worried than anything about Ilya. He'd come from a much colder climate; surely this shit was harder on him?
After wetting a washcloth with lukewarm water, he made his way through the hallway, hoping to fuck he wouldn't get lost, and eyed the Russian before making his way closer to him, the nerves causing his limbs to tremble slightly, until he came to the edge of the couch and he stood between his legs, where he was sprawled over the couch. "You're red! Did you even put on sunscreen?" he hissed, before pressing the wet cloth against his temple and working his way down to his shoulders. "Take off your clothes," he said, before thinking of a better arrangement of words. "Let's get your back,"
Ilya was a mix of touched and perplexed when Shane rushed over to him with a wet rag. Did he really look that bad? His skin did feel a little warm to the touch now that he thought about it.
"I put on some," he answered with a nod. "Was probably not enough." The moment the cool cloth was pressed against his body, he let out a pleased groan of relief. "You are the best. I love you," he said with a smile.
When Shane prompted him to strip down, Ilya sat up on one of his elbows and lifted an eyebrow. "You want me naked? Is this new way of asking me to fuck you?" He knew it was most likely not, but he couldn't help but ask anyways.
Still, he decided to humor his partner. He sat up completely and removed his shirt, draping it over the back of the couch.

Ilya didn't much mind when the bartender brought over another shot of vodka. He grabbed the shot glass and stared down at it for a long moment as he listened to Hunter speak.
"My father was little different," he replied. "Once he realized I was good at hockey, I was pressured to not only be good at it, but the greatest. I represented my family and all of Russia." He snorted bitterly and quickly knocked back a shot. "Every loss I had was followed by a call of how much I disappointed my family. It is all I am good for to them. Hockey and money."
He smiled a bit, looking surprisingly thankful at the other captain's advice. "Yes, but..." He furrowed his eyebrows suddenly. "What is American phrase...? Easier said than done?"
Finally, he added half-jokingly, "Is very weird. We have too much in common, Hunter."

Once they were outside, the first thought that came to Ilya's mind was how much he wanted a cigarette. He'd been doing well not to smoke lately, but there were times like this where the craving was strong. The nicotine had always been helpful to calm the rattling inside of him.
He just snorted bitterly at Hunter's blunt comment. He didn't even have the energy to deny or deflect the observation. He knew that Hunter was right. He felt like hell too.
He leaned against the building before speaking. "It's been hard month for me." His voice was soft, notably vulnerable. Then surprising himself, he admitted, "Is the month that my mom died."

Shane simply flips him off. Under normal circumstances he would tell him to fuck off, but he can't, so this will have to do.
He barely resists the urge to throw something at his boyfrined but any possible object within reach is either breakable or very pointy and despite his growing irritation he does not wish harm upon the man the loves more than anything else in this world.
He would never hesitate to tackle him into the boards, but that's the game and this- this is not. Instead Shane turns his eyes away and pointedly ignores the other. Not just verbally now, but he also avoids looking at him as he slurps his tea.
He then shifts in his seat, putting one leg over the other. He must be looking so fucking cunty right now, feeling Ilya's eyes on him, his gaze almost predatory if Shane had to guess. Does he hate it? No, he does not. He knows Ilya is trying so very hard to get a rise out of him, but Shane is patient, Shane will resist him, even if Shane he doesn't mind it as much as he likes to pretend.
In the end, he loves this stupid asshole so fucking much it hurts, literally.
Ilya couldn't help it. As soon as Shane flipped him off, he let out a loud laugh. Riling up his boyfriend had always been one of Ilya's favorite hobbies.
He was sure that if Shane could get away with throwing the mug without breaking it or risking injury, he would've done it.
When Shane completely turned away, the grin still remained on the Russian man's face. Honestly, seeing Shane getting all worked up was a turn-on, and both of them knew it.
"You are telling me to fuck off, but I think we both know that if given the choice, you would rather me fuck you into that couch right now," he remarked, not even bothering to hide the smugness in his voice. His eyes lidded at Shane just a bit. He knew that if the Montreal captain turned his head, he'd see the hunger in his eyes.
Having Ilya Rosanov show up in each of the books makes him seem like bisexual Nick Fury recruiting the gay avengers of sad hockey men.
He shouldn’t be giving Roz this. Shouldn’t allow this vulnerability, this weakness. It’s too much, no matter how fated it seems. From that first time they shared a glance that turned heated. From the moment that door shut. There was no possibility of a different outcome.
It’s still a really bad idea. One that’s going to fuck Scott over in the long run.
Not because he doesn’t trust Ilya. Not in the way that Scott’s worried about being outed or something like blackmail. He knows that Ilya isn’t a bad man. Scott wouldn’t go so far to say he was a good one. But while the fact Ilya was an asshole was just that - fact - he wasn’t a bad man.
But it would never be the same after this. This what he was giving over. Every time they met on the ice this was what Rozanov would see.
That whine and subsequent growl that Ilya heard was music to his ears. He could see just how desperate and hungry Hunter was for him, and it was driving him insane.
Though, he really couldn't help himself when he heard that demand. He grinned, the edges sharp as a knife. "Don't fuck you?" he echoed. "I thought that is what you want, Hunter?"

Shane could roll his eyes, but he has grown far too used to Ilya's teasing. Saying that the game was too 'boring' to watch fully, knowing boring was practically a term of endearment, and about their individual places in the point standings - Ilya would make him work for it, as he has every season since they were rookies.
"Yes. Starving actually." And his response isn't in a teasing tone. He actually is hungry, drove from Montreal straight from the arena, just wanting to spend a rare day off together. The gay had been easy, but he had still played as hard as he did against even a challenging team.
"What did you make?" Ilya knows he's been fairly strict on his diet in the last year, has even worked through recipes with him, but he's also genuinely hungry, might accept anything, but would bitch about it if it wasn't in line with his current diet. He was working with a nutritionist, trying to optimize his performance, nothing more.
Ilya just nodded, but then smirked, quiet proud of his meal choice. "I made something nice for you," he said. "Was a recipe I found online. Pan-seared tilapia with cauliflour rice and green beans." Before Shane could even ask, he added, "I did not use butter."
He was trying his best to be supportive, but sometimes Shane's extreme diet could frustrate him; mainly whenever Shane commented on his own food choices.
"Not sure if I will like cauliflour rice, but you might?" He paused, waiting to hear his boyfriend's verdict.
It was true. They didn’t have to stay together the whole time, but Kip did like the idea of spending time together as a group too. Then again, it was going to be a long trip, they have all the time in the world. “Adhering to the plan it is,” Kip nodded with a smile, agreeing with that being the best course of action. The last thing he meant to do was throw off their day. He remembered the majority of the details, but knew that Shane knew the plan inside and out in comparison to himself.
Kip took Scott's hand, laughing at his remark before kissing his hand. “Heading towards Frontierland was next on the schedule right? Could go ahead and do Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, I know that was on the itinerary.”

Shane visibly relaxed at that. Not a dramatic reaction, nothing obvious enough for most people to notice, but the tension in his shoulders eased just slightly. He hadn’t meant to come across controlling about any of this. Honestly, the last thing Shane wanted was for the trip to feel like some military operation he was forcing everyone through. He and Kip had just spent hours trying to optimize everything and admittedly, hearing everyone immediately suggest throwing the whole thing out the window had short-circuited his brain for a second.
"No, I—" Shane shook his head quickly, a faint embarrassed smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. "You guys absolutely don't have to stay glued to us the whole trip."
His fingers curled briefly around Ilya's hand after the grounding squeeze, thumb brushing lightly over his knuckles before he looked back toward Scott and Kip.
"I just don't want anyone to feel trapped doing stuff they hate because I made spreadsheets and color-coded schedules-" he admitted dryly. "Which, in hindsight, might've been slightly excessive."
Slightly.
Shane exhaled softly through his nose before nodding toward Kip and his expression softened a little more, sincerity slipping through the teasing tone. "But seriously, if you guys stop having fun or want to change plans, just tell me, okay? You're not going to hurt my feelings."
That was only partially true. His feelings would probably be a little hurt after the amount of effort he'd put into the itinerary, but mostly because he'd wanted everyone to have a good time. He glanced toward the entrance ahead: "Alright. Frontierland first and then Tiana's Bayou Adventure before Kip combusts from excitement."

When Ilya felt Shane's hand squeezing his, he returned the squeeze automatically. He was thankful that Kip had agreed to keep to the itnerary. He knew that even if Shane wouldn't admit to it oud loud, his husband was also relieved by this.
"I doubt that anyone will hate what you both planned, Shane," Ilya assured his partner. "Only thing we might dislike is the lines, but that cannot be helped."
Soon enough, the group began to move towards the aforementioned section of the park. Ilya glanced around, admittedly impressed with all of the themeing. On their way there, they passed by a few Disney characters interacting with fans. Some of them he recognized, some of them not.
"What is Tiana's Bayou Adventure? Is it ride?" he asked the group.
