TUCKER —

HE’S GOT A FROWN ON HIS face, which frankly, is pretty common for him these days. Aaron is pissing him off, more so, he’s not happy where he’s at. Not that he’s not happy he’s at the all-star games right now. In fact, he’s THRILLED to be here. That wouldn’t be on his face, though. Not with the fact that he’d just seen his former best friend, cozying up to fucking Jake Greenhill of all people.

Tuck goes for another beer, and promptly bumps into Shane goddamn Hollander.

AARON —

❝ LOOKING ROUGH, MAN. ❞ BUT HE WASN’T feeling any better. His hip hurt, the right one. It was a pain he was desperately trying to ignore, but knew he wouldn’t be able to much longer. Not with him in net, the way he has been. It doesn’t stop him from trying to hide it.

They’re settled in the weights room, Jean-Luc is on the treadmill in the corner.

Aaron comes from nothing, literally was a foster kid tossed around. Finds a family that cares for him and sends him to a camp, at that camp he meets Tucker. Tucker is from a very rich family, his father played hockey and he’s expected to do the same. They become fast friends. Maybe it’s because Aaron doesn’t know who Tucker is, maybe it’s because he doesn’t care. Maybe he’s a little bit in awe that THE son of Evan Myers is paying him any attention.

Except here’s the thing; Aaron was born to be a goalie. He’s got this weird focus that no one can break, his movements are fluid when they need to be, sharp exactly when the time hits. He’s born to be on the ice from the second he steps foot from solid ground to slick cold.

And Tucker? He has to work for it.

They play pond hockey in the off season, go to training camps together, go to the same school for a bit, even.

When college comes, Aaron is the one who is the #1 draft pick. He goes first. Tucker? He’s third. He’s not good enough. His father hates him for it. His father detests him even more because while Tucker should be disappointed in himself? He’s proud that his best friend made it out of the dark.

Not only that. Aaron is gay. So gay he can’t hide it, he refuses. He’s out to his team within the second he takes his first glide onto NHL ice.

The problem?

Aaron is, too. Mostly. He’s bi.

The bigger problem? Their father pushes a wedge between them, sets them on a warpath. He refuses to back Tucker unless he drops his best friend. To be anything worth having, he does as he’s told. Aaron is suddenly confused why his best friend is no longer picking up his calls, why that ache in his chest is just a little too close to home.

The biggest problem?

Aaron gets traded for trying, after sitting back for so long. Years of being alone, of pushing and pushing till he’s at par (if not more successful) than his father was. For pushing himself out of his father’s light and losing his support in the process. He’s alone. 24. Recently traded due to him attempting to come out to a team who wants to hear none of it.

So where is he traded?

To the Carolina Sturgeons.
