I think that's also a problem I have with some NTBTS fan fiction, where it's really well-written and in-character at first, and then the sexuality and romance is written so cookie-cutter that I don't believe it to be the characters at all. I understand that "let's resolve the problems they have and let them come together as a couple and let them get married" has a lot of appeal to people and it's a fanfiction staple for a reason I'm sure. I'm not trying to knock it, but I can't suspend my disbelief like that and I also find it quite boring to read. I guess that's a fandom thing at large, taking complex interesting relationships and trying to solve the issues they're having (often by the magic of a simple love confession/epiphany/etc) to make them happy. When I see a deranged quasi-romantic relationship on screen, sexually charged mainly be surpression, deeply entrenched in homophobia and denial, then I'm most interested in the "what if?" based in that reality. I want more of what I do see on screen, just extrapolated.
