Judging from its tattered wings and resting posture, this blue morpho butterfly was nearing the end of its lifespan. Thankfully, it had found a nice big leaf to rest on.

These odd looking fish have special eyes which allow them to see above and under the water's surface at the same time! In the wild, they swim along with the rising tide in search of their favorite food - insects that have fallen into the water. In case they end up on a mud bank when the tides recede, they have adapted to be able to survive on land for short periods of time.

These meerkats are quite used to the zoo's visitors, so even though they were standing at alert, looking out for any danger, they looked straight past the humans observing them in their habitat.

Here you can see the leopard anole's camouflage in action! From a distance it is nearly indistinguishable from the twigs and branches surrounding it.
