Good morning my dears,
This morning I feel compelled to comment on the Bruce Jenner interview I saw last night, with Diane Sawyer on ABC’s 20/20. First of all, let me say, for some time now I have heard various arms of the media make mean spirited, critical and taunting musings about this man. It seemed that all of media climbed on the bandwagon and ridiculed him, berated him, and beat him down for making, probably one of the most difficult, soul wrenching decisions of his life. Actually, not a decision as much as finally becoming what he knew in his heart to be the truth.
I can not tell you how impressed I was with the interviews of his children, sister, mother and even ex-wives, who universally agreed, he is one of the most wonderful persons that they know. There were times I was brought to tears at his genuine candidness and the warmth and love that seems to pour out of his very being. Although most of us, most probably, do not understand Transgender-ism, it isn’t required of us to understand in order to love and cherish another human being. I came away from the interview with a renewed regard for him and all of the souls out there, that are trying to emerge from a prison that is their own bodies. How can anyone out there think that to become different, gay, transsexual, bi-sexual, you name it…is a choice? I believe with all of my heart, that these individuals were born this way, with genetic markers, science will fully understand someday.
Think about this folks, who would choose a life that is going to be full of ridicule, discrimination, and in some cases, risking physical attacks? It would seem to me that the truth that burns within is much stronger than their desire to please society. To me, that makes them extraordinary human beings.
Bruce Jenner seemed to me to be a very genuine, loving and decent soul and it is my hope that what ever comes in his future, brings peace, love and at long last, self acceptance. It is my hope that the world accepts him as well.
This morning, my BFF Tammy called, down in the mouth, because her youngest child, who was home for the night from college, was leaving home to move into her own apartment. Tammy suddenly realized the full meaning of empty nest. Send some good thoughts her way today. But in talking to her this morning, our words eventually led to Bruce Jenner and how, in a very strange way, he was leaving the comfort of his familiar home, to take up residence in his dream home…
I know there are parents out there, who are struggling with what they perceive are life style choices of their children. Some handle this by isolating the child, never speaking to them again, and placing them in mental exile. While other parents, although, perhaps shocked, makes the choice to love their babies, hold them close and rejoice in the privilege of ever knowing them. I have heard some say that homosexuality, transgender-ism, and all of the other “isms” out there, are an abomination to God. Now I don’t know about them, but the God I know is about love, compassion, courage, and true pride in the value of creation. If you believe, we were all created by God and that God makes no mistakes, then what other conclusion could one come to but to admit and acknowledge, that no human being is a mistake and is regarded, loved and cherished by the center of the universe.
I am personally, very proud of Bruce Jenner, for publicly sharing something that most of us have the luxury of keeping private. I think he did a wonderful job of presenting his case and in my opinion, showed very clearly, the scope, breadth, and depth of his un-comprising soul! God bless you Bruce Jenner and thank you for attempting to spread the light of creativity, love, and understanding to all of us.
