Lazy
I spend a lot of time reading about, watching, and listening to true crime. I go to sleep listening to various true crime podcasts like Wine and Crime, Bloody Murder, InSight, and True Crime Garage. I’ve discussed various murder methods with co-workers. I am secure in the knowledge that I am far to lazy to actually carry out a murder. But it’s good to have the knowledge.

So yeah, that’s a thing
The air conditioning has died. But that’s okay because I have ceiling fans and light blocking curtains. In theory, I’m working on some fiction writing. In reality, I’m reading a Miss Fisher mystery book and thinking up sex scenes. And I’m debating whether it’s appropriate to kill someone for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Probably not.

Meditation fail
I’ve spent the last two years trying to learn to meditate. It’s supposed to be good for stress relief and anxiety. Oddly enough, trying to meditate actually causes me stress and anxiety. I never feel like I’m doing it right. My mind doesn’t quiet, i worry that I’m not breathing right, I get annoyed at the tinkly, New Age-y music playing behind meditation videos on Youtube. So I’m trying to create my own meditation style - 5 minute meditations for impatient nerds. Five minutes of deeo breathing and when you exhale you say ‘fuck this’. Every time. Doesn’t have to be out loud. Breath - count to five - exhale ‘fuck this. Breath - count to five - exhale ‘fuck that’. Fuck all of the petty annoyances, the looming problems that you won’t solve by worrying about them, the dumbass neighbors who can’t figure out how to use a trash can, that job that will replace you if you get sick and die. Fuck so many of those things. Breathe out.
Build Up
How is it that I can totally give advice and encouragement on how to expand someone else’s business but can’t get my own shit together? I have skills - I like to think that I do. I have things to say. I can build a website on a simple platform and I can write, So what is the holdup. Why do I sit in front of the computer and immediately go blank?
I can see so much potential in other people. Ways for them to use resources to their advantage, new avenues to explore. I like encouraging people. I like seeing them do well. But I’m also envious because I want that for myself.
I am often my own worst enemy when it comes to anything creative or anything too different. I’ve talked myself out of many a thing. I look at my writing and despair because, to my eyes, it’s crap. It’s derivative, stupid and boring. Then I look on Amazon and find a whole section of thinly-plotted erotic fiction featuring Bigfoot or dinosaurs or impossibly handsome, impossibly wealthy shapeshifters who have a thing for big ladies. That’s not to shit on these books or their authors. They are published. All of my writing is spread, unseen, between journals and Evernote. But they had the confidence to put finger to keyboard or pen to paper and create a story about a male werewolf who becomes pregnant by another male werewolf or about a dragon searching for his true mate and finding her only to have her throw a drink in his face or knee him in the crotch.
I spend too much time comparing myself to other people, talking myself into staying in a rut. I need to change that self talk. I need to calm my fears. I have to be able to do something other than sit on the couch and watch Youtube videos on eyeshadow

We are all weird and afraid, even the extroverts. We all worry we won’t be accepted and loved for who we are. You are not the only ones. Connections happen slowly. Have real conversations. Meet people offline and make friends before focusing on lovers. Build a community for yourself, one conversation at a time. And give yourself a break. This is new uncharted territory for everyone. You might be surprised how many types of people are out there waiting to welcome you. Only one way to find out.
