Where are my Blue Marbles?

I feel that this whole presentation is a rather good experiencing, collaborating and working with students from different disciplines.

Even though it is very time consuming and the initial thought of it was very hypothecal, but I think my group and I find it really cool if this whole installation could be something that actually happens at Changi Airport.

It may be crucial and time constraining by putting this project blue during the project week as we have a lot of assignments to catch up. It'll be great if we can push this project somewhere in the earlier part of the year or semester.

It is rather interesting as everyone in our group has a different take upon taking this whole project itself...

Prior to the presentation, each of us was tasked to work on our own. Nicholas from Arts Management did the digital renderings for the presentation slides, Nusha from Design communications did the presentation slides and Nitya from product design did the mock-up of the project for our presentation. Whereas I did the sound samples that is suited for the art installation.

We were all given about a day and a half to work on our own.

How did I come up about with the sounds?

While thinking about the colours in mind, I did several sound samples about 30 for the group to choose. Out of 30 only 5 was chosen to be fitted in the category.

- Dark to light - corresponding sounds and colours 

- Dark sounds are more resonant and dull, they have a deeper, richer tone 

- Light and bright sounds are more playful and higher in pitch - sounds like birdsong in a forest 

- A gradient of soothing sounds will be created in the tunnel, corresponding to the colours.

We met early before the presentation starts to come up with the name of our Art Installation and we have finalized the name to be - Landskein.

- A spiralling beam of light that pulsates around the circumference of the tunnel

- Wave form sculptures that mechanically imitate the fluidity and ripples of water

- Pulsating lights that mimic bubbles popping or jellyfish moving

- Ascending and descending raindrop sculptures inspired by those at Changi Airport

- Cloud-like forms that gently move linearly, reminiscent of a stormy night sky 

- This is the darkest section accompanied by bell sounds, deep and resonant

Progressing with the idea and finalizing details like the location to be at Changi Airport Terminal.

Everyone was assigned different tasks for this project, and I was in charge of consolidating the sound samples suitable to use in this art installation.

A mock-up will be done and included during our presentation. And the design of our tunnel of installation will take the shape of the doughnut as shown in the picture above.

Our plan was to have a total of 5 installations of different artwork.

We have finalise the theme of this project to be based on “Nature” and every installation will be related to nature.

UV Lights will be placed throughout the tunnel emitting blue lights.

I have also come up with different sounds of nature, from water flowing down the river, ocean waves, birds chirping, the morning breeze, and some sound samples that I have created through Logic Pro.

Sounds are mostly from low frequencies to higher frequencies, to fit in with the art installation with different shades of blue.

The whole art installation will overall be a therapeutic experience. 

As you enter the tunnel, it starts with a darker shade of blue which portrays a deeper and calming feeling, and as you progress through the tunnel, the shades of blue become lighter and people will feel calmer as they leave the tunnel. 

In a case where passersby do not wish to enter the tunnel due to the access of carrying heavy baggage etc, they may sit outside our art installation as there will be a projector with sits showing documentaries about our nature, environment and animal living life.

Discussed the idea of “Blue” as a sma group, an panned out what do we think of the term “Blue”.

Conceptualised and planned out as an individual, before sharing our ideas as a group to create the process towards our final product.

What does Blue means to me as a Musician?

- The blue sky

- Blues (Music genre)

- D Minor chord (That gives off a dark blue tone)

- Blue scales.

Brief idea and discussion about Project Blue...

The Stone Roses -

John Squire Art Doppelganger.

John Squire is a musician, songwriter and artist.

He is the guitarist for The Stone Roses.

The album cover of “What the world is wating for” was painted by him.

The best hit in the album was “Fools Gold”.

You may think that “is there a deeper meaning to this artwork?” But no. John Squire stated on his website that he painted the two dolphins in with no relations to any of the album songs at all.

But he painted it, depicting the purity of a dolphin’s life over the avarice of human’s life.
