I recently did a commission for a colleague. His father-in-law owns a villa on Lake Windermere, and he wanted to capture the beauty of it in a painting and gift it to him for Christmas. The villa has an amazing view across the water with a jetty projecting on to the lake . I did the painting through photographs that he’s taken whilst there. I often visit the Lake District but I haven’t had the opportunity to paint them yet, so I really enjoyed this project. Water is one of my favourite subjects to paint. I find it funny (and flattering) that generally when people buy a painting, they choose art that matches their home interior. But in this case my friend’s father-in-law loved the painting so much that he wanted to hang it on a particular wall, and he had the wall repainted to match it.
