Arctic Monkeys - Hold On, We're Going Home (Drake) in the Live Lounge I'm super digging these Live-Lounge recordings. This song is made essentially better by the fact that Arctic Monkeys are covering it. It's smothered with their signature sound from top to bottom; it totally could have stepped right off of their AM album.
Sam Smith covers Tracy Chapmanâs Fast Car in the Live Lounge
Fuck all the haters, this is my boy and this is my jam melting together in jazzy, confusing, sassy, melodic bliss. Itâs not a completely harmonious union, since the song is all about feeling bitterly deprived from a good life and the burning need for freedom from a shitty situation, and he brings a kind of sensual tone to it that feels juxtaposed. Still, loving the arrangement.

A Comprehensive Guide To Vegan, Cruelty-Free, And Natural Beauty
I'm for most of this (manic LUSH-head here) except for the "natural" statement, which is totally miss-hyped. For one, a ton of synthetics used in standard beauty care are naturally derived, like petrochemicals in soaps. These are created from petroleum/natural gas and thus, quite literally "from the earth". For another, EVERYTHING is chemicals, from the pigment in blueberries that colors your bath fizzies to the almond oil in your cleansers. By definition. This pervasive idea that "all natural and chemical/synthetics free" is inherently better is a very real greenwashing gimmick used by many companies, to prey on societal trends - mix this with a bit of ignorance and voila, you have a billion dollar marketing scheme.
That said, I love that there are more plant based options (which I believe should be switched with the term natural), and I personally go out of my way to buy products that use mostly plant derivatives as raw ingredients.
Not all synthetics are bad, not all natural ingredients are good.

15 Feminist Books to Read In 2015 to Help You Stay Passionate All Year
"For 2015, I picked out 15 books that each give a vibrant take on feminism. Thatâs the 360-degree view of feminism â not just for the academic or the political or the reluctant ones. The stuff thatâs in these pages is whatâs going to keep the conversations lively, and keep feminism at the forefront of everyoneâs minds in the year to come.
So, whether youâre a diehard feminist who knows what sheâs all about, a confused one whoâs not totally sure how to wear the term, or a person who is a bit weary of the F-word, thereâs a book for you below. Pick out one for your New Year reading list.â
Read the full piece here
"not totally sure how to wear the term" is dead on. A lot of women I know feel this way. reading your way into self-identity is one way to personalize feminism for yourself; it's not a one-hat-fits-all kind of word.

I donât want to brag, but I make a far better Tortoise Upside Down Is Ignored by Friends than Sarah does. (To be fair, she is the superior art historian.)

Sia - Elastic Heart
The latest video installment from Sia featuring li'l superstar Maddie and SHIA LABEOUF (what?) is so fucking beautiful I actually had to come out of my year-long Tumblr hiatus to post it. Sia wrote the song to reflect what it's like to be in an unforgiving relationship with someone with severe mental problems, in this case, between her and her father. I've watched it a few times, and it sort of left me reeling each time. There are mountains of expression in each calculated bit of choreography on top of some truly gorgeous, raw lyrics. I think this video will mean something different for you based on your personal experience with mental illness or any estranged relationship... maybe you suddenly (confusingly) find yourself attracted to washboard Shia with a beard, but it will definitely leave an impression either way.Â

Weird Al Explains How He Conquered the Internet
When I said I was going to interview âWeird Alâ Yankovic this past weekend, people asked me how he was going to find the time. The guy is everywhere right now. I was a little confused myself about how he could possibly squeeze in a casual conversation in the lounge at The Standard Hollywood, a hotel on the Sunset Strip.
It wasnât until I actually saw him stroll into the lobby that I really believed the All-Time King of Song Parody, and reigning Emperor of the Internet could take a moment away from darting all over the digital landscape to talk to the likes of me. He had an entrourage of one in tow: Jay Levey, his manager, creative soulmate and director of UHF (a movie that was released 25 years ago yesterday). Jay is a small, taciturn, businesslike man who puts Alâs elastic, always-on persona in stark relief.Â
But when Yankovic sat down wearing low-key, normal people colors, it was clear that he wasnât out of breath, and he was capable of devoting his full attention to an interview. I couldnât help but ask how this was possible.
"I have to say, the synchronicity with the release of ["Mandatory Fun"] is pretty mind boggling even before we get into all that," he said. "I had been doing all sorts of promotional stuff, like, months and months before I even knew I had an album coming out, and everything started to happen right around the time of the release." He was referring to his recent appearances in other peopleâs work: "Epic Rap Battles of History,â where he rapped with animal agression while dressed as Isaac Newton, and Drunk History with Derek Waters, in which he played Hitler.
But he emphasized that some of his recent everywhere-ness was happenstance, his performance as Hitler being a prime example. âIt tied into the whole totalitarian theme on the album art. And there are things that are coming out over the next few weeks, like âHotwives of Orlando.â I did a little bit on that show, and that came out the same day as the album. All this stuff is sort of happening, yâknow, at the same time.â
