Dead wife montage of Grace for Stratt but it's just him in comfy sweaters standing a step behind and to the right of her as she chews someone out, in a sealed environmental suit behind thick glass doing an expiriment, getting into petty incomprehensible scientific arguments with another scientist, handing her paperwork, sleepily passing her a mug of coffee whilst also looking for his glasses, and of course asking her annoying questions.
While I sort of get the impulse, it does always get my back up when people talk about something like Animorphs with this attitude of 'omgggg remember these books, how on EARTH were we allowed to read these books, they're so grim and dark and violent and tragic, no adults could possibly have known what they actually contained or they'd have been banned.'
And like. Allowing for the fact that there absolutely are adults who think every distressing topic ever should be banned from children's literature - they're children's books. You were allowed to read them when you were a kid because they were written for kids. Bridge to Terabithia is also a children's book. So is Where the Red Fern Grows and Old Yeller and Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry and The Giver and loads of other books that deal with heavy, difficult topics. It is appropriate and good for children to have books about these things that are tailored to their reading levels and it genuinely really bugs me when people act like they're somehow not really for kids because bad things happen in them or they end tragically.
I read Where the Red Fern Grows when I was like 9 or 10, and to this day, it is still the saddest book I have ever read. But you know what? It was also one of the most beautiful—it was about devotion, loyalty, and courage. It taught me empathy. It made me think. And for all its tragedy, it’s stayed with me as one of the most poignant works I have ever read. And yes, it’s a children’s book.
Let kids read books with difficult subjects. Allow them to feel, to think, to process heavy emotions in a safe environment that hurts no one. But also, as a parent, read with them. Encourage thoughtful discourse. Engage with them as adults, and don’t judge.
Banning kids from reading tragic or dark books isn’t protecting them. It’s creating sterile humans with no sense of empathy and no critical thinking skills.
ohhhh shit. target is recalling their up & up baby wipes (fragrance free & fresh cucumber scented) because they're contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli, multiple people are reporting discoloration & infections. i just got a call about it cuz i had purchased those but i've already gone through them 😅 so no refund for me. but im fine. if you have these they're saying you need to immediately stop using them and bring them back to target for a full refund. this bacteria can cause life threatening infections in children/infants and people with compromises immune systems (ESPECIALLY cystic fibrosis!!) and i know lots of other chronically ill people follow me!!!!
Hold on i should've been more specific.

QUILT??!?!?!?!?!??
Back when I was still in high school while visiting my grandparents out of state, my mom took me to a quilt show where there was this one appliqué wall hanging piece that haunts me to this day. It was of a girl who’d gotten her kite stuck in a tree, and had the vibes of an Edward Gorey piece, all black and white except for the kite, which was red. And the damn thing was reversible. If a piece of material was black with white spots on one side, the other would be white with black stripes. The dude who made the piece said he had to go to material shops across 4 different states to make the concept work. Understandably, he wasn’t interested in selling at that time, so I snapped a few crappy pictures on my pre-smart phone cellphone.
Except my phone unexpectedly broke shortly thereafter, and I lost those pictures forever. It’s been like 15 years, and I still think of that little wall hanging quilt and feel a little sad that I’ll never see it again.
Anyway, quilts are art and too many people sleep on that artistry without really understanding the work that goes into making them

The thing about comics is that it's uniquely suited to you getting behind your little blorbo and cheering for her like it's a sports team, where every time they get any kind of recognition it's a personal win, and whenever they are victimized by editorial or a writer you can rage like a sports fan at a referee.
She's your little girlie and you've been supporting her for years and omg she finally got a solo omg she got to be in this bestselling comic omg she got to be in an adaptation then NO they killed her turned her evil erased her from the universe changed her backstory! But there's always a chance you can get her back the way she was again, because characters come back to life and stuff gets retconned all the time, and you live for it. They cycle is constant. It's an evil grift, but it works.
