This 300-500,000 year old handaxe from Chelles, France was deliberately knapped to highlight an embedded fossil shell. An early display of aesthetic awareness beyond pure function, among the earliest hints of artistic intent in human history.
it sucks that the overwhelming majority of medical messaging around salt/sodium is "evil poisonous substance that you're definitely already eating way too much of," because like. you do still need it. (trust me, as a POTS-haver, I've had to completely rewire my own brain about salt.) and you need more salt when the entire northern hemisphere is hot enough to fry an egg on. ever tried sucking down the recommended 64oz of hydration per day entirely as water, only to find you're peeing constantly without any of the purported benefits of being "hydrated"? assuming you don't have another medical condition that causes frequent urination, your body probably needed more salt/electrolytes to be able to hold onto that water and make use of it. if there was ever a time to keep a sports drink/pedialyte/etc within constant reach, it's when the heat index is 110°F/43°C.

filet based on the sword from Excalibur (1981)
I caught the Salmon of Knowledge, pan fried it and paired it with a delicious white wine sauce, but I didn't debone it properly and I choked to death
there are places in the world today that are experiencing 40°C for the first time in recorded history. of course there's no way to know whether chucking billionaires into volcanos will appease the sun god but i feel we're doing the scientific method a disservice if we don't at least try

The ruins of Haughmond Abbey, near Shrewsbury. The breath-taking remains of a large medieval Augustinian abbey.
Pieter Bruegel the elder - “I am touchy and out of my senses bull-headed, so I bang my head against a brick wall”, from “Twelve proverbs”, 1558.
babe are you okay? you reblogged “I am touchy and out of my senses bull-headed, so I bang my head against a brick wall” again

as a regular donor to Gaza Soup Kitchen I get their email updates, and they said today that while they've continued to be able to expand, donations are slowing down as Gaza gets less coverage. If you have a few dollars to spare, I encourage you to send them here to continue the amazing work that Hani and his team are doing.
